Lyrics:
When I was a child,
You captured my devotion
I spent so many hours
Exploring mixed emotions

All of the ways you spoke to me
All of the things you provoked in me
I'll always love you

Diamond Dave
No one can hold a candle
Nothing else is quite the same
Pretty Dave
I'll always remember
I still carry such a flame

When you left the band
I couldn't understand it
But I've forgiven you
Now that you've recommitted

All of the time you spent away from me
All of the missed opportunity
I'll always love you

Diamond Dave
No one can hold a candle
Nothing else is quite the same
Pretty Dave
I'll always remember
I still carry such a flame

Come on, Dave
Show me what you got
I can take it

I'll always love you

Diamond Dave
No one can hold a candle
Nothing else is quite the same
Pretty Dave
I'll always remember
Diamond Dave
I'll always remember
Pretty Dave
I'll always remember
I still carry such a flame

I think the video clearly shows it was she that had the crush. :)

well...THAT was interesting.

Pretty good crowd at the Beachland Tavern. I was there Saturday night to see Dan Baird and Homemade Sin. Haven't been to three shows in a week in forever.

Opener was Samantha Sidley. Teeny little woman with a big voice. She started off with Somewhere Over The Rainbow, a cappella, then into a few of her songs. Backed by Alex Lilly, a drummer, and a trombone/guitar player.

Alex Lilly was up next. Played synth and acoustic guitar along to some programmed tracks. Not a lot of downtime between acts, they all backed Inara George (The Bird). The Bee, Greg Kurstin, does not tour any more. He's got seven Grammys, I guess he's entitled to stay home. They play along to some of his tracks and were pretty open about it.

Not a bad show. Not really what I would normally listen to. A friend joined me and thought it was pretty good, she was impressed by the vocals and she had recognized a couple songs. "Fucking Boyfriend" was in Forgetting Sarah Marshall (which I have not seen). Van Halen covers were Panama, Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, and Runnin' With The Devil. Jazzy, with trombone, piano, and vocals.

The Bird And The Bee also had released a Hall and Oates covers album, from that it was Sara Smile and I Can't Go For That.

George finished up the set singing to an iPad video of Kurstin on piano, a cover of the Bee Gees' How Deep Is Your Love. Very well received by the crowd. Sing along at the end.

Advice: Take a woman to this show. She'll like it.

And upon Googling further I see that Inara George is the daughter of Little Feat's Lowell George.

I'm glad it went ok, there is enough good musicianship in them that it would never be terrible. I thought though from the video you posted that it was screaming out for a bass player...

As an aside I'm not sure I've seen more than a bit of 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' but I can recommend the followup 'Get Him to the Greek'. It is so much funnier than you would expect a comedy sequel starring Russell Brand, it's actually quite good.

Inara George did play some bass. Little short scale Fender thingy. I don't remember if the trombone player played the bass too. There was an SG, an acoustic, and the Fender bass onstage and a couple keyboards. Alex Lilly played a little Korg board in her set and she ran tracks from a little sample player mounted on a mic stand. She played guitar a little too.

Yesterday while we were out riding my friend said she thought it was kind of odd calling it The Bird And The Bee when the Bee was not there. A minor gripe though. I'd go see them again if they return.

I liked the song. It was a bouncy fun pop song, well produced, nice melody, and with an interesting take on nostalgia and the difficulty of letting go the impulses of our cherished past.
