Yeah, he was Army. Volunteered after Pearl Harbor. Im researching his life and career in the Army. He was KIA in France in '44 and no one in my family knows any circumstances. I have his Purple Heart.

Just found this:

"Camp Bowie, located in Central Texas, was a military training center during World War II. The campsite was one and one half miles south and southwest of the city limits of Brownwood, Texas. During the years of 1940-1946 it grew to be one of the largest training centers in Texas, through which a quarter of a million men passed."

My great-uncle was in the 4th Armored Division, 25th Recon. Mechanized Division. He drove a half-track and was a radio operator. He landed in Northern France on July 14, 1944 and was killed in action on July 19, 1944.

I have some of his letters home to his sister (my grandmother) and pictures of him with his sweetheart(s). I raise my American Flag every morning for him.

Sarge, Fort Hood is out close to Waco, right? Just a skip and a hop south of Crawford? Has the President made many visits to Fort Hood while you've been stationed there?
