If ANYTHING, the fabled "BrownSound" is ONLY in Ed's fucked up fingers... He plays many different guitars on most of the albums, and it sound great. Old Flying V is on "Hot for Teacher" so again, that poorly constructed Peavey P.O.S. ain't gonna do anything except waste your $$$.

Well thanks for your thoughts

Okay, the Wolfgang costs 600 and i really need help, i know it depends on the player very much, but all i want to know is if it can get the job done and get thr right sound

Ed sounds like Ed on whatever guitar he plays. (currently that sound is shit)
The guitar doesn't matter as much as learning to play in Ed's style.

I suggest you continue shopping and find the guitar that fits you and your ear best, then work on fingering technique "Edward Style"

Curt Mitchell has a couple of videos out that will help you accomplish this much faster and better than trying to buy it in a guitar.
The "Brownsound" is more feeling than tone anyway.

P.S. The Wolfgang is a nice guitar, but way to overpriced as are most axe's today.
But if the Wolf is the one that fits you best, buy it.

They don't work well with my meaty paws. I need bigger frets and a flat neck to rip.
but i've been playing Jackson/Charvels for over 20 years, lol...I'm ruined and stuck on them.

if you can play some Van Halen, it certainly can be done on a Peavey Wolfgang...

Find one on ebay for half the price or less...

DLRdelight!
07-23-2004, 04:50 AM
Well i do know some Van Halen, SO your saying the sound can be gotten from a wolfgang?

I think what the majority is saying is that the brand of guitar doesn't make much difference.
If you want an Eddie tone then the Wolfgang could be a starting point.

Any alder body with a Gibson PAF pickup and a Floyd would get you there.
But the amp is as important as the guitar as well.

To be honest, if you want the old school VH sound then i'd try an find an old Charvel and build one like Ed's "Franky"

It will cost more than the Wolfgang Import you are looking at though.

07-23-2004, 05:09 AM
Alright thanks, you all have been very helpul. The amp i have is a peavey transtube 212 II special. Since he used that guitar in the late van hagar years and on VH 3 that is definately a sound i want to tay away from. but heres a link to the amo i have

Just buy a decent guitar with a floyd and good p/up (this could be a wolfgang, yeah). I can't imagine that you've already got the skills to slap an axe together.

I build guitars as a hobby...

There's a little more to it that just putting parts together...

Buy the Peavey...

Nice guitar for a nice price...

DLRdelight!
07-23-2004, 06:15 PM
Thats awesome that you build guitars man, and i know its more than putting pieces together, i was just saying it in simple words, but its been hard to determine if the wolfgang can get the sound

ELVIS
07-23-2004, 06:39 PM
I think it can...

I've gotten very close to Edward's early tone with an Yngwie Malmsteen spec Stratocaster.. it's just a bit thinner...

I like the pickups in the Wolfgang...Loud and clean...not overly powerful...

MUSICMANN
07-23-2004, 10:51 PM
To get ed's sound is more than just ripping off his licks. Ed has a very unstructered and loose playing style. But don't think just because he plays loose that he is not very precise at what he does. Like someone said, Ed sounds like Ed on any guitar he plays. Really any guitar with a paf pickup and a tubed marshall head cranked to 10 will give you the classic sound you are looking for. So i would invest in a marshall head and go from thare.

I'm partial to the Sunburst myself. Purple works for me also.

I hate Gold guitars, especially the Gold Top Les Pauls. they remind me to much of the old Slingerland drum sets with the crazy sparkle colored shells.

07-24-2004, 04:05 PM
Yeah i know what you mean, there are just some colors that make you look the other way, like for me blue doesnt work, i just dont like it

That is a nice guitar. I have this squire bullet that was my dads when he was in a band, i dont know how he had it since he played keyboards and piano. You can tell its pretty old because now a days the body is light and on this guitar its pretty heavy. It was what i first started learning on. Im sort of thinking of fixing it up. Could use a better bridge and a tremolo bar. The memories with that guitar. I hardly even used it. Has been in the garauge the past year or so. I just got it out and put some strings on. Thinking of picking it up again instead of my other guitar.

It's an arch-top, That is a nice fucking axe right there and worth every penny. It's not an import either which is very very cool.
I don't even think they make the import in an arch-top, do they?

DLRdelight!
07-25-2004, 01:17 AM
I doubt it

Cathedral
07-25-2004, 01:22 AM
I'll tell ya, If i add one of those to my arsenal it will be an arch-top.
My hands are pretty big for that guitar, but i'd learn to cope with it.
The neck is scaled down or something, I just don't have a lot of knowledge about them to date.

DLRdelight!
07-25-2004, 01:24 AM
I wish i could afford a U S model but fact is i cant and im just gonna have to settle for a import

Cathedral
07-25-2004, 01:36 AM
Thats fine, the imports are the same as the American made versions, but as i told you in my email, It is all about quality control.

I have played a couple of the imports and they varied a bunch in how they played.
But i haven't played an American version i didn't like except for my big paws giving me trouble fretting certain chords.

I do like them though, except for the damned Peavey logo on the neck, lol.
