One thing about VH doing a cover tune-- I always thought VHs' always sounded better than the original. Of their cover tunes which would you say is best. I gotta go with "Youre' no good " still gives me chills

"Used to be i couldnt' sleep at night baby...Now -you go on do what you want to"

I agree too. One of the reasons is because it is such a polar opposite to the original. And because Dave's voice sounds incredible.

I love his screams on this one!

i also have to go with youre no good, daves vocals are amazing and for once eddie plaed a solo that was catchy and went with the song, it wasnt out there like his solos usually are(with the exception of little dreamer and light up the sky)

You Really Got Me is the best. Maybe Pretty Woman. Sure you've heard YRGM so many times you may be a little sick of it, but it's the best.

The worst, "Where Have all the Good Times Gone" - or "Big Bad Bill"

Man, I was coming here with the express point of giving You're No Good a good strong vote. Am suprised there's so many others. That's cool.

For me, it's definitely YNG, followed by live versions of Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers. I dig WHATGTG too.

Dancin' In The Streets is one of the gayest fucking things VH ever laid to tape.

The ONLY track I consistently skip over EVERY TIME I listen to Diver Down. Blagh.

Ice Cream Man. It's so different than the original that it shouldn't be considered a cover. How they were able to listen to the original and make it into that is unbelievable.

Cover of "Summertime Blues" that is out there on a boot from the Diver Down tour is kick ass!!! Easily my favorite cover from VH, and for anyone else that has heard it you'd at least agree that it is a smokin' cover!!! Can't believe that it wasn't on Diver Down!!

Rush just recently tried to emulate this cover.....there are similarities in guitar style, but it falls well short of Eddie's riffs bringing the song alive and Dave belting out "Ain't no cure..." man, I love this VH cover!!!

They played a couple other live, I know they did Neil Young's "Rockin in the Free World" on the RHRN tour, and they also did a cover of The Who live, but I can't remember which song. Obviously, none ever made it onto an album.

I'm with ya on Ice Cream Man...especially how Dave did it in his '03 summer shows, where it wouldl start off slow and bluesy like it sounds on his latest "Diamond Dave" album, and then part way through they'd just blast it ala Van Halen 1. A total rush, fo sho.......!!!!!!!

Hey guys they did wont get fooled again by the who. its on their live right here right now album. as far as classic halen goes all there cover tunes are just great. even the solo roth cover tunes but if i had to say there was one super cover tune i would say dancing in the streets. ed and al hate it but listen to the sound of the guitar , the bass its something that no one has ever done and to think it was done in 1982 before sampling and looping etc etc its just mind blowing. Long live Van Halen Long Live king Edward!!!!

They did alot of great cover tunes that are on live bootleg as im sure you're all aware.....I think "Rock and Roll Hoochie-Coo" is right up there with the best of them. Eddie does a friggin awesome jam in the middle of it. (who knew? lol)

Studio album covers........I'd have to go with Ice Cream Man for it's blazing guitar, the great style change they go through going from an accoustic song to a full-on rock/metal/blues jam is just world-class Rock-assault entertainment at it's finest. This song basically screams out what van halen was all about, Dave, Eddie, Mike, and Alex...all their personalities/playing styles are perfectly illustrated.....and of course Dave's personality/performance/singing style contributed as much as every other part of the song......and maybe even a little more.

Dave "van-halenized" their covers as much as anyone did.

Ed's sister is Alex. Jan Van Halen is his dad.

I think you got to go with You Really Got Me. The song really shows off the power of Van Halen. The reason is that the song isn't changed in the least musically but it blows away the original. It's a simple tune that can be played by anyone but when Halen played it, it just sounded different. You're No Good really doesn't resemble the original, it's basically another song (Dave basically makes that song his own). You Really Got Me is Van Halen telling the world that we can take your songs and re-record and they'll sound a thousand times better just cause we're playing them. That says something man.

i'd say You're No Good was the best CVH cover song without a doubt...thing is that even though i dont' much like the idea of covers, CVH covers have always been brilliantly executed and sound like originals in their own right...You're No Good was superb, Dave's lyrical delivery, falsetto screams, and Eddie's fierce blues-riff attack on it makes YNG a terrific cover and a great way to start VHII, a record that i love more than their debut..
