I would think many people play music here? That is one reason I am here ! Being a guitarist, and wanting Dave back in the band SOOOOOOOOOOO Bad!!!!!! So how many others Musicians are here?
And what are your rigs? And reason you started playing?

I play a Gibson SG through 2 100 watt Fender Rocpro half stack set ups.

Reason for starting guitar Was 1975 Ted Nugent Concert!
Ted was Excellent with Dereck St Homes!

Five guitars as well as an old Marshall Plexi, and a Pod for when I don't want to kill people with volume.

My favourite is my old fucked up Strat (it's been slightly modified), through the Marshall

I have also been playing for 25yrs. I am 31 now. I have approx 14 guitars and a bass, 3 guitar amps, a rack setup, a bass amp and a ton of pedals. I started because of Clapton and then got into because of EVH. Now I dig Vai, Satch , Hendrix,SRV and Beck more.

I am a Bassist and a Singer(I am also a song writer too), I also play guitar too, but I prefer playing my acoustic....although sometimes electric...but if it's an electric situation it's easier to play bass, since there are 80 billion guitar players and no bassists...especially ones that play bass and sing...

I play bass, does that count? I have two basses, a Stagg BC300 or something - begginers bass and totally shite, and an epiphone thunderbird - fookin' ace, had it a few weeks now. Only been playing for 4 months now I think and I don't own an amp yet - I use my band's vocalists 2 x 100 watt speakers. Started playing because my friends - guitarist and vocalist - were pissed off with their current band, mainly the bassist, and wanted someone to play for them. So I got a bass and joined 'em.

you have some pedals? Amp? Self taught or lessons?

Ive got;

Stereo Flanger
Phase Shifter
Dunlop Wah
MT Metal Dist.
Digital Delay DD-6 (im not as impressed with it as everyone else seems to be though)

and on my way to a Stereo Chorus.

Still using a Vibe amp/speaker box with separate gain switch.

Let's clarify

My guess is there are few "guitarists" in here.

Reading these posts only confirm.

There are many guitar OWNERS

Probably quite few guitar PLAYERS

But very few guitarISTS

I'm not trying to be a purist snob, I've just endured more than my fair share of professional hacks.

Most are now selling shitty yamahas to 13 yr old boys at Guitar Center for 20K a year

I tip them well when they deliver my pizza too, I just ask them to leave it outside the gates

Been playing and writing for 24 years.
I play 2 Charvel guitars exclusively and run them through a modified 5150 II half stack.
I am very liberal with my effects application which are supplied by my old and faithful QuadraVerb GT. "Less is More"

My older brother was in a band when i was just a tike and i always admired the way they jammed out Peter Frampton tunes. As i grew up that bug tugged at me until i discovered Ace Frehley and just had to have an axe. Hearing Edward Van Halen for the first time changed my whole perspective an made me want to be a better player.

Drummer here. I have a black Tama 7-piece kit left that I still have set up and jam on... ...have had many sets over the years, played the club circuit for 15+ years in two different bands, opened for Y&T once at the Cabaret in San Jose... ...also have 4 guitars, 2 electric, 1 Acoustic, and 1 Classical, and an old beater Bass that sounds great... ...on those I guess you could say I'm a hack, but I'm a pretty good hack for a drummer... ...on the drums however, I'll kick all o' y'alls asses! :)

I have a Silvertone Apocolypse Paul Stanley Sig, A gold top Les Paul (copy I prefer the coil pick-ups it has to humbuckers) and a guitar my dad gave me from when he was a child.

I have 2 small amps a marshall supervibe (chorus), boss Digital Delay DD-6 (BT I'm not that impressed with it either but it plays eruption like a dream on the right settings). Boss SD-2 Turbo Distortion (My Fav Pedal), Boss Phase shifter and some really really shite wah wah pedal.

Oh and I've been playing for a couple of years and have only been taking it really seriously since 4 months ago. I know practice at least 6 hours a day (I'm an insomniac so I have plenty of time to practice)!

I have a 1990 Floyd Rose Strat (H/S/S), a 2002 USA Tele, and a Kramer Baretta. I play through a white Marshall 1959 SLP 100W reissue head running into a white 100w cab w/Celestions. I run the guitars through an Aphex Peanut Butter O/D or SansAmp GT2, then a G-Major and BBE Sonic Maximiser.

That does me nicely although I have played a mate's LP Custom and his 12-string Ric through my rig and both sound fantastic..

Time to take up a third job I guess..

Yeah ! Don, I got the POD too. Sounds like we have similar armoury.
I love the POD except, it feels like a closed circuit (does that make sense ?) you dont get that whole feedback squeal/harmonic
feeling you get when plugged into a real amp.. But they make a
great sound even plugged into a home stereo.. Cool toy..
Good for recording too.. But when I gets the need to squeal..

Been playing, jamming, performing, noodling and composing for over 34 years...

Number 1 guitar is a 96 Fender Jimmie Vaughan Tex Mex Strat
number 2 is a 64 Fender Duo Sonic
number 3 is a 72 Gibson ES335

Got an Agile ovation copy, Yamaha acoustic and an old classical guitar that was my 1st back when I was 11.

Building a strat from parts right now.

Amps... 64 Fender Deluxe Reverb, Marshall AVT 50... A few months ago I parted ways with my beloved 64 Blonde Fender Bassman that was my main amp for almost 20 years... original owner went back to gigging pro again and begged for it back. I miss that damn amp. Don't know why I've ended up with all this 1964 gear but it just happened to be the deals I came across over the years...

Pedals... 68 Crybaby Wah, Univibe, Boss Digital Delay, Boss Super Chorus, Ibanex Stereo Chorus, Original issue Ibanez Tube Screamers both a TS-8 & TS-9, early 80's MXR Analog Delay, Big Muff Fuzz, Digitech RP7. I don't use most of them much mostly have the wah, univibe , delay and chorus in my loop. The others I use as needed when recording.

My rig: 80`s green Charvel strat style guitar with Hum-single-hum configuration(tone zone and paf pro) with crome floyd rose and maple fingerboard trough a crybaby, a phaser and a chorus from boss into my Carvin Legacy.

I heard Yankee Rose and absolutely fell in love with the guitar. i wanted to be like steve vai(i actually still do). HAHA
