It's an excellent song. Perhaps underrated, but only by those who don't appreciate classic Van Halen.

It's one of the best songs on WACF which itself is a very underrated album.

I was just listening to this, and I had forgot how much I love this song and how much it kicks ass ! Love the lyrics !

In a Simple Rhyme
Well, back in the past when I was treated so coldly,
my love life was a darn disgrace.
Needed someone to love and hold me.
That's one of the reasons that I was out of place.

So this is love! Well, she finally kissed me.
Had me all worked up inside.
I was in love, but Cupid missed me.
She up and left, and I almost died.

But I was young and I was far from lonely.
I been that way for a long, long year.
Needed a girl to call my one and only.
Is that you?

You think you got the int'rest.
C'mon and take the time.
'Cause you know I wanna be
yours in a simple rhyme.

Well, ain't life grand when you finally hit it?
I'm always a sucker for a real good time.
Woke up in life to find I almost missed it.
Ain't I glad that love is blind?

But I was young and I was far too crazy.
Been that way for a long, long time.
Needed a girl, but I was just too lazy.
Now that I've found you:

You think you got the int'rest.
C'mon and take the time.
I'm gonna be
yours in a simple

rhyme,
rhyme.

She made her mountains sing.
Birds against an icy sky.
And I heard bells ringin'
I think I heard an angel sigh. And she said:

There'll be times,
there will be times
you're gonna hear the angels singin'
you're gonna hear the angels sing. They'll sing,

"Ah.
Ah.
Ah."

You think you got the int'rest.
C'mon and take the time.
I'm gonna be
yours in a simple

rhyme,
rhyme,
rhyme.

Nice, calm, melodic intro from Edward ... then Al's set up for Dave's vocal onslaught !!!

The first time I heard it I was blown away. Actually, from around June of 1978 or so, from the mid point of "Eruption" until "One foot out the door" ... every single song blew me away. And I've talked about this before, but "Diver Down" disappointed me from a standpoint of the lack of originals.

Anyhow, "In a simple rhyme" is an awesome example (one of many) of the controlled, raw, unadulterated power they possessed as a band. As "Loss of Control" is ... just amazing.

Kinda had a The Who meets Led Zep vibe for me, the Who part mostly in Al's drumming and the Zep with Ed's intro and especially the solo-very Pageish. Not really much shredding in it at all, yet one of my faves by him.

IASR is a great song off of one of CVH's greatest albums.

WACF and Fair Warning were the peak of CVH for me.

One of my favorites as well...

I always thought it was kinda out of place on that album, though...

That song was a pretty big hit here in Orlando. Got alot of airplay. Alot of material I've read about the classic VH albums is that WACF and Fair Warning were "hitless". But both those albums were very big here when they first came out. O-town was nuthin' but a bunch of VH freaks between '79 and '84.

Yeah, virtually no air-play in Ohio. It's a fucking awesome song. One of the first VH songs that I learned to play when I picked up the guitar.

That "growth" thing was intended to start at the end of WACF and pick up on fair warning.
On the record it just fades out.
When the CD came out it had the ending.
