Tommy Nast, senior vice president and general manager of the Album Network, releases an open letter in response to David Lee Roth's open letter:
Dave,
After reading your letter, I had to tell you it did interest me. It interested me so much I had to write this. To our readers who don't know, since your departure from Van Halen a decade ago, I consider myself a friend to you, to the Van Halen camp, and yes, to Sammy Hagar as well. And because of my friendship with all of you, I had to state the facts I'm aware of that I don't think you know.
I know for a fact that Edward, Michael, Alex, and Ray Danniels did not have a lead singer hired three months ago, since they were running names by me, including yours, to get a temperature on what the spin may be. I know for a fact that one month ago, a singer had not been hired, because Ray, myself, and a potential singer for the band were discussing the possibilities. That person was not Gary Cherone, and because I gave that person my word that I would not give his identity, I will not use it here. But believe me, nothing at this point was set in stone.
Dave, before you insinuate that you were lied to, I have to share my knowledge on the subject. I don't want you to burn a bridge with Van Halen again, without hearing from a neutral party that can go on record and hopefully set it straight. There are many people who are disappointed (me included) that we will not, at this time, see you reunite full-time with Van Halen or a tour or new album.
But, there are also a lot of fans who will be ecstatic to hear the two new tracks you all put together. It is very true that we don't know what the future will hold, and if Van Halen confirms Gary as the new singer, that is their prerogative. But I did have to make it known that Gary was not hired as early as one month ago, no less three. I wish you well and will always support your musical endeavors.
Your friend, Tommy Nast
