Van Halen plays Gazzarri's in West Hollywood, CA.
1979
Van Halen plays the Masonic Auditorium in Detroit, MI.
In Detroit, Eddie purchases a keyboard, and while sitting in the back of the tour bus, writes the main riff of what will eventually serve as the foundation for the band's first #1 single, "Jump." Getting the thumbs-down from Dave, the tune finds its way on to an unmarked cassette tape and sits in a drawer in the recording studio for another four years.
