  • Surprise Full EEAS Reunion Cancelled

The reunion of VAN HALEN singer David Lee Roth and the band for his debut solo album, "Eat 'Em And Smile", was cancelled at the last minute last night (Wednesday, November 25) by the fire marshal at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood. The show would have marked the formation of the famous Eat Em And Smile band 30 years ago.

It had been originally mooted vocal duties would be from STEEL PANTHER vocalist Ralph Saenz (a.k.a. Michael Starr) previously Dave Lee Ralph of the Atomic punks but that turned out to be a cover story.

Dave joined guitar hero Steve Vai, bass legend Billy Sheehan (THE WINERY DOGS, MR. BIG), drummer Greg Bissonette (RINGO STARR & HIS ALL-STARR BAND), and keyboardist Brett Tuggle(FLEETWOOD MAC) with a view to performing some of the hits from the classic LP.

The band actually made it to the stage but didn't start.

Also, I'd known Roth was going to be there since last week, was sworn to secrecy. So even bigger bummer. Vai is the one that talked him into it. Just sucks.

The line was curling around the corner on to Hollywood Blvd. at 6:30 when I got there. There were 400 more people in the building than allowed by law. Vai even offered to PAY THE FINE, fire marshall said no fuckin' way. Chances are it'll never happen again, and if it does, not likely there.

In the 20 minutes it took for the MC Paulie to keep asking and not get enough volunteers to leave (hell, I considered it) - even though a LOT of people volunteerd, they could have just let them play - and the 1000 non-regulars that were there would have left immediately after. Just terrible planning - they hyped this on the local news and acted surprised they ended up over capacity (?). The place isn't THAT big, it's a bowling alley the rest of the week...lol. The club itself still made a killing though - the lines at the bars were so long everyone (myself included) was buying drinks two at a time, and I've NEVER seen that many food orders come out, but people (like me) showed up 2 and 3 hours earlier than normal and had planned to make an evening of it. Club won, fans LOST.

Video footage of a disappointed Roth leaving the venue after the cancelation can be seen below (courtesy of California Rock News). He said that they would try to find another venue.
