Suddenly TCU's blowout win over Utah last week doesn't look so impressive after Notre Dame blew them out again today.

after Notre Dame blew out Utah yesterday, I just can't get behind TCU in the title game. I still think Auburn gets beat by Bama, which will open up a slot. I firmly think a one-loss team like Wisconsin should get in there over Boise/TCU. If both Oregon and Auburn lose, I think the voters absolutely MUST put a one-loss BCS school in ahead of one of them.

okay, here's the new list. none of the 0 or 1 loss teams lost this week. However, I'm going to take out the 2-loss SEC schools now. with the title game set (Auburn - S. Carolina), none of them can make it to the BCS game now. there's just no way...

11 teams, down from 14 (Miss St, Alabama, Arkansas out)
        unbeatens still at 4

        SEC (2): 0 losses - Auburn; 1 loss - LSU
Big Ten (3): 0 losses - none; 1 loss - Wisconsin, Ohio St, Michigan St
        Pac 10 (2): 0 losses - Oregon; 1 loss - Stanford
        Big 12 (2): 0 losses - none; 1 loss - Nebraska, Okla St
        ACC (0): 0 losses - none; 1 loss - none
        Big East (0): 0 losses - none; 1 loss - none
        Mountain West (1): 0 losses - TCU
        WAC (1): 0 losses - Boise St
        MAC (0): 0 losses - none
        Conf USA (0): 0 losses - none
        Sun Belt (0): 0 losses - none

Like I said...this could be the year that pushes the NCAA over the hump for a tournament. No matter what way you look at it...someone gets screwed. Let's be honest...there isn't a soul on the planet outside of Boise and TCU that thinks they should be in the title game without proving it week after week, or in a tourney. In my opinion...Wisconsin is as good a team as has come out of the Big Ten in awhile (it pains me to say), and I'd love to see them go up against a team like Auburn...who's good...but wouldn't be able to stop the run. Oregon was ripe for the taking last night..too bad that didn't happen...

          We shall see...we shall see...

It would have been a fun tournament though...

Seriously...imagine an eight team tournament this year...and the pressure applied to teams like THE Ohio State trying to get into that eight slot...

            Would...

            Be...

            Awesome...

I've always thought that you take your six BCS conference champs and two at-large. whatever ties you need for the non-AQ's as far as the at-large...fine.

Maybe in a year like this with two unbeatens, it would be Boise and TCU. of course, that would be a controversy also, with one-loss OSU, LSU, and Stanford getting beaten out. but all 3 of those teams lost on the field to keep themselves from a conference title. so, it's harder to complain.

I'd also have a way to lose your automatic, if like the Big East this year, your champ isn't at least top 15.

this shouldn't be so fuckin' hard.

But..some of these BCS leagues aren't any good...or similar to the smaller conferences...like the Big East and the ACC...so the conferences would have to change...

                first...

I like the idea of taking out rankings...but conference championships...unless they all have a championship game...I don't know...

yeah, poj, if an "automatic" conference like the Big Least or ACC doesn't perform, you take away their bid (make it so the champ has to at least be top 15) and add an at-large. this year, you could get an LSU in instead of Pitt or Syracuse (or whatever shit team comes out of there).

but I've always been a big proponent of earning it on the field. if a conference doesn't have a championship game? so what? let each conf decide for themselves.

One end zone for offense at Wrigley

Only one end zone will be used for offense Saturday at Wrigley Field for the Illinois-Northwestern game because of safety concerns, the Big Ten announced Friday.

The east end zone is just feet away from the right-field wall, and although there is padding, there still were concerns that players could be injured there.

Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald had said this week that he would have different game plans for each end zone to avoid the possibility of injury.

When a team is on offense Saturday, it will be positioned to head to the west end zone.

"Though it's not ideal, it's the right thing," Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips said on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "We've been planning for this for a while, there were no surprises. The field came out the way we thought, it ended up maybe being a little closer with some of the padding.

"As we looked at it -- the visual aspect of it -- this week, we just felt there was a low probability that something would happen. But had we taken every step that we could to ensure that the safety was maximized, and that we did everything we possibly could under our purview to make it as safe as possible? And the more we thought about it, the more we talked about it, we looked at it, we just felt like this was something we needed to do. And it was complete uniformity between the Big Ten conference, and Northwestern and Illinois. At the heart of it was to make sure we had done everything we could to make it safe."

In a statement issued by the Big Ten, the following changes will be made:

                      • All offensive plays will head toward the west end zone, including all extra points and all overtime possessions.

                      • All kickoffs will be kicked toward the east end zone.

                      • After every change of possession, the ball will be repositioned for the offense to head toward the west end zone.

                      • As a result of a coin toss held by the conference office Friday morning, Illinois will occupy the west team bench in the first half and Northwestern will occupy the west team bench in the second half and for all overtime periods.

"The health and safety of our student-athletes is of the utmost importance," Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said in the statement. "Both Illinois and Northwestern did significant due diligence over the past 18 months, but after seeing the actual layout of the field, all parties felt that it was appropriate to adjust the rules to further enhance the safety of our student-athletes. Wrigley Field is one of the most historic venues in the country, and playing the Illinois-Northwestern game at this facility will provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for student-athletes, coaches and fans."

The Big Ten announced that only one end zone will be used at Wrigley Field on Saturday for the Illinois-Northwestern game because of safety concerns.

That is about a load of shit, why schedule a game where it can't be played properly? Makes no sense to me.

The layout really is boneheaded, as the play will always be in one direction. Who wants to sit on the right field side, if the action is always going away from the fans seated there?

Not to mention tickets have already been bought for the game, I would be pissed right off if I bought a end zone seat then found out about this.

Using Google Image (football at wrigley), take a look at the way the field was set for football in the old days. It wasn't much better. Also check out "Football at Yankee Stadium", there wasn't much of an improvement.
