Wow. Even Gar could not get up the balls to post pics of his cardboard Charvel and his imaginary amps.

Kudos to you dude. I did not start playing electric until I was 16.

OK so tell us...what was the defining moment where you suddenly realized playing guitar was something you must do? Just curious.

Why put him on the spot ??

There is nothing you must do, unless you get drafted...

Not putting him on the spot E.

Many musicians, myself included, can point to one point in their life where they decided playing guitar (or music) is what they truly wanted to do.

In my case, it was seeing ZZ Top in 1976. When I walked out of the venue, I knew I MUST play guitar.

I was not meaning "must" as in "SOMEONE ELSE telling you that you MUST do something".

It was meant more as when YOU tell YOURSELF you must do something.

Understand?

Yeah, I saw Vandenberg open up for Ozzy in 1982 when I was a kid, and that truly got the ball rolling for me...I hadn't seen Van Halen live yet...

Adrian was amazing at the time...

My sister got an acoustic for christmas a few years back... So I picked it up when she wasn't being an idiot on it and taught myself. I got my first electric last year.

I started two weeks before my 15th... My sister brought home the first 3 VH albums, I was hooked.

Yes, kudos to the kid. He sounds serious about guitar, and is already actively researching what he needs to know to progress....pretty cool.

And he already knows not to act like GARfail. He'll go far.

The man who really got me into guitar was Dick Dale... But my idol perspective soon shifted over to Eddie Van Halen.

I am very serious about the guitar, i've been playing for over 2 years self-taught, and i'm a hell of a lot better than most of the people I know (except my teacher). I made sure to take and post pictures of my gear when asked as well. I know what i'm talking about when it comes to guitars, whether it seems like it or not, and if I don't know something I will look it up. I'm constantly improving and I have a live webshow on Stickam sometimes, I play guitar for people who care to watch. If anyone wants to hear me jam sometime, give me a buzz.

Oh! That's not an "SS" guitar. There was a Kramer sidebranded-company called American Showster.

They came to prominence by making guitars with bodies that resembled fins off a 57 Chevy.

Yes, I forgot to say that it's A Showster S/S... Sorry. And it's missing the counterweight/Chevy Fender thing.

Uhh...he means he is a Dick Dale fan as well.

And you do not have to apologize to Gar for anything. He will attempt to tell you what you should do with your stuff (hell, he already did, lol), so feel free to tell him to shut up.

Ace was not the guy who kicked me in the ass suddenly and made me want to play guitar, but the Christmas of 1976 I found a Kiss Easy Guitar book, and was able to learn the entire Kiss Alive album within a year or so. His solos were easy enough for a beginner to learn, but, as a beginner, I still found them challenging. I always could pick up solos easier...it took me awhile to get a lot of chordal things down.

Only time I ever saw Adrian Vandenburg was when he was playing in Whitesnake in the mid-80s.

Kiss inspired an entire generation of guitar players...

With that said, I still am not big about rowdy old men wearing makeup and playing on big guitars.

For your sake, hope they tour again.

Anyone else remember being a 14-yr old VH freak? Ah, memories.

When most of us were your age, VH rolling into town was like the circus showed up...only with more dancing girls, and less animal poop.

True. When I went back to see the fam over the summer I was looking at some of my old ticket stubs and laughing at some of the prices (that to be fair we complained about then) compared to today. Think I saw Randy Rhoads when I was around VH5150's age for something like $15!!

Anyone else remember being a 14-yr old VH freak? Ah, memories.

When most of us were your age, VH rolling into town was like the circus showed up...only with more dancing girls, and less animal poop.

Remember it well! Learning Al's drum licks and trying to find anything that was shown live on TV!

The thing that really made me want to play guitar was Kiss and Ace. He looked so cool with smoke coming out of his guitar and how low he wore it. What really made me decide to go over to drums was Wipe Out......I was 10 when I tried playing guitar and 11 when I switched to drums....

Van Halen's going on tour again, 2010 World Tour... Where have you guys been? But anyway, I live near a very major city in Florida; Tampa/St. Petersburg. If they were to come down here, that's likely where they would play. And it's only a 45 minute drive. The tickets wouldn't be too bad, but I still would like acceptable seats.

I'd be willing to spend upwards of $50+ to see them. I've been saving my money lately, and hey, there's not much good shit to spend it on.

When I saw them in 1978, it was $8.50 and that was for General Admission, so I got right in front, holding onto the rail.

I recall two experiences sometimes out of order, and because I'm tired tonite I don't exactly care:

I saw Van Halen when I was 10 one summer, at a backyard party I wasn't invited to, just a neighbor kid riding up a driveway on a bike with dozens of older people standing around cheering with plastic beer cups in their hands. Typical SoCal kegger party.

That was free, and during a break the guitar player strapped an explorer-shaped guitar on me and showed me A and E chords for a few minutes.

Then the following year's fall I saw the end of a set over a fence by standing on my bike seat and handlebars looking over.

Didn't pay for that one either.

They got famous later on so I can't say I saw "Van Halen" live yet. I missed out on the US Festival which was my only chance but being about the 30th in line at Music Plus, tickets sold out in ten minutes.

I've been reiterating that story for 10 years or more now, you're pretty green regarding the stuff I've done and who I've known huh?

I mean you come in here about the time in 2003 when Hagar goes on tour with VH or whenever that was to have a shitfit, and you seem to be stuck shitting yourself ever since.

It may help to actually read what some people here have said over the years instead of just attacking any opportunity you see fit.
