'Clerks' director Kevin Smith suffers near fatal heart attack
Kevin Smith, the director behind films like "Clerks," "Chasing Amy" and "Dogma," nearly lost his life last night.
Smith took to Twitter early Monday morning to post a picture of himself in the hospital connected to tubes after suffering a "massive heart attack."
Smith, 47, was scheduled to perform two shows in California Sunday as part of his latest comedy tour.
Last I heard he lost 85 pounds, I guess he put it back on again.
My favourite none musical artist , love Fatman on batman and all his podcast stuff.
His last few movies were iffy but his early stuff rocked . More a personality than a director now .
He never stops his output is incredible , seriously works hard. Might have contributed as well as his weight.
It seemed a bit weak to blame critics for his movies bombing when they were clearly not good.Quote:

I think he's doing the same diet Penn Jillete used - basically you just eat potatoes for a while and then phase in some other vegetables.

You can get pretty much all the nutrients you need just from eating potatoes.
He has lost loads , looks better for it obviously.
Thing is he is a massive stoner so does that not entail a dozen kit kats from the garage around midnight ?

I think what the doctor was getting at was that the weed kept him calm. As opposed to the full on panic that many people might go into if they realized they were having a heart attack, or any other potentially life threatening event. The ABC article there seems to be focused on the short term temporary negative effects of smoking itself, which would probably be the same no matter which burning plant material you are inhaling, due to the carbon monoxide, etc. entering your lungs. Fortunately with cannabis, there are other ways of consuming which don't involve lighting it on fire.
As far as the "potato diet" for rapid weight loss, it seems illogical that a diet composed entirely of white carbs would be successful. If Penn Jillette says it worked for him, I have no reason to think he's lying about it, but it still doesn't sound right.
What Kevin Smith might want to look into is beets rather than potatoes, as a great natural source of nitric oxide to keep his blood vessels open. And if you hate the taste of beets, there are juice blends or powdered supplements to get around that yuck factor.
