Despite the actual positions Biden has taken politically throughout his career, he seems like a likeable guy. I don't think the nomination is his for the taking by any means. It's certainly not a case of Biden throwing his hat in the ring and everybody else folding up tent and going home. It's not going to be the virtual coronation Hillary got in 2016, Bernie Sanders notwithstanding.
Doubtless it sticks in Joe Biden's craw that he had to acquiesce to Obama's wishes in 2015 and stay out of the race because it was "Hillary's turn"...I'm sure Biden thinks if it had somehow worked out otherwise, [Biden] would be in the Oval Office today instead of Trump. I'm not so sure Biden would have beaten Hillary in the primaries in 2016 anyway, short of Obama throwing his full support behind Biden, and even THEN maybe not.
If Biden wants the nod this time, he's gonna have to earn it by fighting for it. He wasn't effective doing so in 1988, nor 2008, and both those years had crowded fields much like 2020 already does.
I like Joe Biden. I'm not particularly enthusiastic that being President of the United States is in the cards for him.
