That's not true...
Von was playing buggy cars last night...
It's not alone in his bedroom? :D
George lynch is more overrateted than satriani
Meh.
Rock guitar playing is incredibly subjective.
I can't think of a guitarist I couldn't formulate a critique against but that doesn't mean shit.
BB King can't play rhythm? Eddie Van Halen is picking from a bag of familiar tropes? Yngwie becomes tedious? Jake E Lee has a shitty tone?
George Lynch has his thing whereby you know it's him within in few bars which is unique in itself and I don't think he is overrated. He's hardly a go to guy when someone is trying to name best guitarist ever. Also the last thing I've heard him play on the KXM album last year is I think a bit of a departure.
I get where you are coming from in that as you get older gigging and so on the stuff I admire is being able to just turn up and do anything. The guys that can improvise any style from metal to bluegrass or just bending a few notes perfectly onstage when you can't hear yourself and you don't know the song that well.
I'm not sure how good Lynch is at that but as these people get older and I meet more of them I do notice that just the sheer amount of time that they have been doing it now means there is now a gap between the bar band people like me and them in terms of consistency and professionalism.
I like George for his rhythm playing. His solos all might as well be the same. To me, a guitarist is only as good as their riffs. The more creative and identifiable they are, the better, of course. He does have a certain way about him, where by he gets a Mr. Scary vibe to show up often. That's not a bad thing, but that wouldn't gel with Dave, especially now.
I think John 5 could be the freshest, most unique voice in rock guitar at this time
You can see some of DLR's unreleased song titles listed on the ASCAP website. One of the guys at the VH Links did a search. There's well over 10 songs listed there co-written with John 5, and a couple with Bob Marlette.

So, what Dave does is release it the same day that Wolfgang's album releases.
So, Twonabomber and I spoke to John 5 for a minute after his show in Cleveland last night. I asked him if that was him playing on Dave's new Christmas song, and he said it wasn't him. I also asked him about releasing the album this thread was started about. He said "I hope so". The previous times I spoke to him were more one on one. Unfortunately he was trying to be rushed out last night, and some douchebag bitch was ruining it because she kept literally grabbing him and professing her love for him. It's really cool though, because anytime I have spoken to him about this album, you can just see the excitement about it, on his face.
Oh, and John kicked ass last night in Cleveland!

I took about 1200 photo's, and I'm weeding through them now.

This was pretty cool when he came over here, but not very conducive to the lighting. Hard to get a good shot there.

I had John sign my DLR Band CD. Ray had signed it after the Nautica show here in what, '04? I hand the booklet and the marker to John and said "I'd love to hear the new Dave stuff" and he said he would, too. Then he asked "who's on here already, Ray?" I said yeah, after they played down at Nautica, and that was it.
Great fucking show!

Unfortunately the "new record" doesn't look like it's ever gonna see the light of day...
