Theme Song For The Sheep Pen

Last night was going through my CD collection and had listen to Pink Floyd's record Animals... I believe I've found the perfect theme song for the Sheep Pen...

    We report... You decide?

    Sheep

    Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away;
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.
    You better watch out,
There may be dogs about (Max, Rikk, Bill)
I’ve looked over jordan(Links), and I have seen
Things are not what they seem.

What do you get for pretending the danger’s not real.
Meek and obedient you follow the leader (Sammy)
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel.
    What a surprise!
A look of terminal shock in your eyes.
Now things are really what they seem.
No, this is no bad dream.

The lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives he releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, he hath great power, and great hunger.
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
    Master the art of karate,
    Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we’ll make the bugger’s eyes water.

Bleating and babbling I fell on his neck with a scream.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

    Have you heard the news?
    The dogs are dead!
    You better stay home
    And do as you’re told.
Get out of the road if you want to grow old.
"If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”

Pretty brilliant, ZZ. BTW, ANIMALS is one of my favorite albums. Besides SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS and PIPER, ANIMALS is my favorite Floyd album.

Also, the song is the perfect fit for the Pen, but don't neglect Lou. He is now a great contributor. ELVIS is great for the Pen too.

And the Sheep? We love them, you know that.

Yeah UmmaGumma is one of my favorites as well...

I'm neglecting Lou on purpose... that "Supreme Apologist" tag he tried to pin on me at DDLR is still chapping my hide... The real Elvis spoke to me from the grave last May when I visited Graceland and Sun Studios... I shall not worship false gods...

Clever selection with the choice of words too, ZZ..

Can you imagine Spammy reading such lyrics ??
Can his brain even comprehend the extended meaning and
lyrical poetry that can be added as an extra dimension to music ?

Sorry, I know this all about the Sheep Pen, but I look at
brilliant lyrics, and it just reinforces how lame the Sheep's
    leader really is..

What wonderful mystical plane does a Hagar song transport
    you too ??

    BrainDead City.

Explains the fans mentality, A LOT !!!!!!
Ive seen the pics, these dudes are all thick as two bricks..
Thats why they love this fucker, his pre-school lyrics are
all these fans can compute, whilst music is playing at
    the same time..

    VIVA VAN HAGAR !!

    VIVA THE SHEEP PEN !!

Roger Waters and David Gilmore are very good song writers... I would say Waters' is very simular with Dave's style where phrase combinations that by themselves don't make much sense but when combined form a visual/sonic picture as a whole. Although Waters is much much more dark in his subject matter than Dave on his darkest day.

Sam's much more a bluecollar workin stiff kinda lyricist with extra cheese... Definately not as literary nor abstract in his lyrical content. Which may be the source of the difference... the members of Floyd and Diamond Dave are avid readers of higher literary stuff... Sam probably gets his inspiration from Dr Suess and Truckers Weekly...

I read Animal Farm many moons ago. Fascinating book.

I agree with ZZ's comment about these guys having similar
lyrical writing quality as Dave. Many of Dave's lyrics created
imagery and were very poetic. Spammy's lyrics remind me
of a small child trying to write a basic poem with very limited time..

Um, what rhymes with cat ?? bat ?? fat ??
what rhymes with time, um errr "TIME !!!!

with little or no thought into what these simple
    rhyming lyrics mean.

    Apart from vacuum cleaners, blackholes
and industrial pumping systems, is there anything
out there that sucks more than Spammy ???

Not much on Earth sucks more than Sammy Hagar, my friend. It's like he took a brief vacation from sucking when he went in and recorded the MONTROSE album, but basically he is an awful, awful performer, lyricist and singer.

Dave is a kind of ragtime poet. He's a genius. I really think so. And a misunderstood one at that.

Its such a shame when you realize that, that part of Van Halen is lost
on the Hagar fans. To me it was one of *THE* magic components.

Everybit as special as the melodies and showmanship..

    All created by Dave..

But I have learned from the sheep across the years. I really believe
Hagar fans are those who cant listen to music and visualize any
form of real song meaning, whilst the music is playing.

    (Too much too compute !)

They feel "safe" within the realms of simplistic, meaningless lyrics.

Then there are those of us who aspire to creativity and expression
within all levels of the music. We are the ones who *get* DLR.
Ed's early guitar wizardry mixed with Dave's melodies and lyrical
imagery, made Van Halen. The fact that Dave was a master showman,
was just the icing on the cake.....

Tradegy, when you look at what its become. Such a shame, such a waste.

    I agree...

Even the two songs with Dave in'96 had that lyrical magic...

    Totally agree ELVIS !!

It was the first time, in a long time, that Van Halen had some
meaning and imagery back in their songs !!

Proof positive of what should have been.

Music is poetry. If one cannot write without music, one cannot write WITH music.

Too much of gorgeous melody has been tainted with the filth of un- felt words.

Lyrical words alone, should be able to flow in songs of silence. The addition of music is another element in which to blanket an already prominent form of human experssion: an ALREADY authentic language and human represention of meaning and creativity.

Those who hear a song, and write words across its luminous body to simply make the song "singable," need to learn to swim beneath the surface of human existence. They need to be brought back to some moment in childhood in which tears had meaning beyond just moisture meant to fall from eyes. There is a source in which such human vulnerabilities are driven out from within.

Sammy is one of those who, in sense, does not really *HEAR* or *FEEL*.

wow, let me go read that again... awesome.

Songs are words and music making love. Is this what you are saying?

Each indivual component must be able to stand alone, but when introduced should meet in the tenderest of moments, joined in an embrace of passion and pleasure that brings out the best of both and creates a moment unequal in intensity. An encounter wherein the tiniest touch sparks flames of mamoth propotion culminating in an earth shattering, mind blowing moment of sheer ectasy. An instant so fleeting, yet so powerfully all encompassing...that each individual component wonders how it survived without the other, and knows that forevermore, life will not be complete without the other.

    I think you are right.

And if it is only for one song.... you're doing it wrong. Baby, we are talking the whole album, on repeat. (inside joke)
