My very favorite will have to always be JOHN BONHAM. There is no such thing as overrating this man. Second would possibly be BRIAN DOWNEY in THIN LIZZY. This guy is one of the must underrated drummers in history. He can play anything, he's very funky and he is simply amazing. I love MOON. I love MITCH MITCHELL. I do think sometimes ALEX VAN HALEN is amazing, and other times he's predictable. It really depends. He was at his peak IMO on 1984. Maybe having fewer drums on his kit forced him to come up with more intricate bass drum and snare stuff.
Vocalists? Well, DAVID LEE ROTH. Obviously. Also, IGGY POP. JAMES BROWN. ROGER DALTREY. PETER GARRETT. RAY DAVIES. JIM MORRISON. JOHN LENNON. Obviously, many others.
I have over 1500 CDs, so I'm always listening to something different!

My dads a big Thin Lizzy fan, I haven't listened to much myself. But when he puts it on it's usually hidden by his...... vocal talents.
As for drummers go, I don't know all that many, I'm a guitarist but who has a lot of respect for the whole of Led Zep.

I watched the outake from the original on the scene where you actually seen the alien (the whole of him) walking. Thank god they kept that out of the film.

met that dude.. He's a tall bald bugger. Is a full on politician in Australia now. You must be a fan of the oils if you like him...

a lot of noise... Then I started guitar (much relief to parents)
THEN I GOT A FUCKING LOAN AND BOUGHT A 100 WATT MARSHALL
HEAD AND BOX !!!
hahahahah, took that sucker home, turned everything up to 11,
hit an open "A" chord at the second fret, and I think my parents
wished I had taken up the drums !!
I always respected good drummers, Ive met a few in my life,
one guy in particular, he could time himself to anything I played.
We used to jam and I would come out with some pretty fucked
up timing changes, and the dude would be right onto it. It
was a huge buzz playing with this guy. We could literally play
spontaneous, freshly created music together, and time it
really well.. Sometimes it was almost like he could sense
when I would throw in one of these tempo changes..
Great stuff !! That kinda connection with other musicians
is what its all about..
I hope to meet another drummer like that next year
when we get it all happening again...

Jimmy Page once said, "Your band is only as good as your drummer." Having a great drummer to really lock into each groove of the guitar part is the key sometimes. Alex? Yup...he was great. But now I dislike the guy so much, it's hurt my opinion of him. That's the big tragedy of Van Halen...they were so loved by some fans. And those same fans can't help but like them less after how much they've been hurting their legacy and disrespecting those fans.
As for Peter Garrett, yeah I love the Oils. I've been listening to them since the late 80s. I've seen them live twice, front row...and they always put on an amazing show! I have all their albums, though I think the last two or three were kinda weak. But I was bummed out that he left the band a couple of years ago to go into politics. Was he a nice guy when you met him?
Mitch's intro on LITTLE MISS LOVER gets me every time. He's incredible. Check out his performance in the recent HENDRIX AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT DVD. Just unbeatable stuff. Agree with Page's comments. I cant play in a band situation unless the drummer has his shit together.
Garrett took his political ambitions even furhter recently. He actually
joined up with one of the two main political parties in Oz (Currently
they are in opposition) So he disbanded the Oils for his political
ambitions..
Shit, Ive lost count of how many times Ive seen them. They
were a great band !! I actually love their really early work, it
kinda changed the band's dynamic when they went political..
Their last great album to me was 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
Peter was ok.. I met him as a muso.. Was pleasant enough,
just a normal bloke. I dont agree with a lot of his political
ideas though. But, yeah, he didnt have any airs or graces..
