    Black Sabbath

Just to point out that I don't think all personnel changes in bands are a bad thing...I really like the Sabbath albums with Ronnie James Dio singing lead. Yes its a different style & sound from Ozzy stuff but still great albums, unlike Sham Halen's
Any other suggestions for bands that have made personnel changes and then went on to do great or even better things than the original line ups?

          Dr. Graf-

I agree with what you said about Ronnie and Sabbath. I also loved the Ian Gillan album Born Again.

The only one for me is Michael Schenker. The guy had many singers and the chemistry on all but one worked.

          Phil Mogg
          Gary Barden
          Robin McCauley
          Graham Bonnet
          Chris Logan

His playing has only gotten better, along with his songwriting. However, not a mainstream artist so I guess it depends on your definitions of better things.
At his best, his solos are as good as EVH in his prime, just a different style.
He's much better than the UFO albums from the 70's, not that they were bad.

Yeah he's put out a lot in the last couple years.
His reunion album with UFO called Walk on Water is phenomenal (1995)
Also "Be Aware of Scorpions" is great (MSG 2001)
He did albums with Robin McCauley (great singer) from about '86 to 92.'
Chemistry was great but suffered a bit from cheezballad-itus. Not to the extent of another band. Don't know if that was record company pressure or just the 80's norm.
He's done some projects with Mike Varney (Shrapnel) even though he's not what I would consider a Varney kind of shreddar like Greg Howe.

                  Singer changes that worked:

Sabbath did it with Dio and Gillan

Judas Priest - Halford was not the first vocalist

Iron Maiden - Bruce is better than Paul

Motley Crue - John Corabi was 10 times better than Fat Vince

Mezro...I can't include AC/DC; Bon was better than Brian...

deep purple - they got a lot better with gillan

they did some great tracks with coverdale too

however, for me the ozzy-era is the only real sabbath-era...

Didn't Rainbow become mainstream when they brought in Joe Lynn Turner after Ronnie left ??

Coverdale did an outstanding job but it still didn't have the mass apeal that the original lineup had!

Bon was better than Brian but they really did become "mainstream" when Brian took over the lead duties.

For one album, then they Ritchie kicked him out and they went downhill.

Halford was the first vocalist on an album.

I agree about Bon. Brian never came close to truly replacing him, in my book. But I can't agree about Corabi. Vince is an idiot as a person, but there really is only one line-up for that band.
