stereotypical views of U.K and U.S.A

just thought about the ideas we picture in our heads of each other.....here in the U.K we tend to think of people in the US as loving everything big....big cars .....big houses....big meals....a bit loud...but very friendly...always willing to complain if they arnt happy with the service in a resturant or with public services.....were as we in the U.K are the total opposite!.....why????

I think it's mostly what people see in the news and other media.

When I think UK, I think people hanging out in pubs watching football (that soccer kind :p)

Eh, I dunno if it's a common stereotype of UK guys. I've known a few and that's what they were all into, so I generally picture them. My one friend wasn't though. He was this huge economics genius. And the cutest accent.

    Love the accent!

It's more of a Scottish stereotype then general British people. I have a wierd accent (I'm half South American and half Scottish).

Everytime I hear a Scottish accent I either think the one Scottish guy form Star Trek (not Scotty, the other one from teh newer series) or Groundskeeper Willie.

Groundskeeper Willie all the way. He's your ultimate in stereotypical Scots.

    Scotty was Canadian.

Oh shit now I look like a geek.

And no his accent wasn't convincing, to us at least.

About as convincing as Sean Connery's Irish accent in the Untouchables...

    Cheers!

There was another Scottish dude on Star Trek?

I know you couldn't be referring to Miles O'Brian from TNG/DS9 because he was Irish. Also known for his role in "The Committments" where his catchphrase was "Elvis Presley is GOD!"

Another example of us kicking your ass at something. You had to use dirty tactics to kill William Wallace.

Ok, I realize these stereotypical views are all crap, because I have
great friends from both countries.. (Through here, and growing up
    in school)

But I guess the stereotypes we perceive in OZ are

British - Oh so prim, proper, polite and anal
USA - Loud and arrogant, everything we have is bigger
and better than what you have..

I have personally met people from both countries that
dont go anywhere near these stereotypes..

    Fuck stereotypes !!!

Its pigeon-holing... How can you define a whole race of people
like that ?? You cant, its all bullshit...

Panamark throws a bucket of water across the front row
    of the crowd (thanks Ozzy)

    I LOVE YOU ALL !!!

And you were lucky to get away with that...
Yet we still went through in the tournament.......

Aussie sterotype is the blokes round the BBQ with sausages saying g'day mate with a can of fosters in there hand. But it's not. Everyone is friendly as fook, and they drink VB. Victorian Bitter was it? something like that.
