Most of my friends are really into DP. Glad you enjoyed the show.

I saw them a few months back. They were great. They really put on a great show. But I must say that I don't like Morse's playing at all. I really miss Blackmore. He was really key to that band (although I did really like Tommy Bolin).

Too young to see the original line-up. I would have loved to, though.

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed the show. I'm just not that big on the new material because Blackmore was such a great writer. And I miss Jon Lord too. But Don Airey was incredible. Just an amazing keyboard player.

They didn't play BLACK NIGHT at my show, you lucky bastard!!

Harsh about Black Night! Jon Lord joined Don on keyboards for Black Night and at the end the 4 members of the Mach 2 line-up stood together and took a bow, was great to see.

It would be great to see Blackmore with them, but hes currently in the same state as Ed, basically to far up his own arse to see sense

I saw Deep Purple this summer and they were fantastic. Steve Morse really stole the show and looked like he was having a whole lotta fun doing it. Blackmore is my favorite guitarist, but Morse is an admirable substitute. The two highlights of the show were “Perfect Strangers” and “Knocking at your back door.” These two songs blew away the seventies material presented that night.

At that part of the tour, Joe Satriani was the support. Satch was pretty boring to tell you the truth. He had his moments, but 40 mins of guitar with no rhyme or reason is a turn off. He's no Blackmore/Iommi/Van Halen to say the least. I really don't see the hype.

Probably the most interesting part of his set was when he was intro-ing a political instrumental about the environment. His exact words were: "It's kinda weird doing an message song with no lyrics, since no one knows what you're talking about. But, the message is that we shouldn't burn every thing up and we should save things." Once he finished speaking a heckler behind me shouted, "save electricity, do an acoustic version." That comment alone made those 40 mins all worth it.

Man, I gotta agree with you, Viv. The show I saw in Toronto was great, but those two songs sold the show. The minute I heard Don kick into the intro to PERFECT STRANGERS, I lost it. The crowd took a second more to realize what song it was. And as much as I like KNOCKING AT YOUR BACK DOOR, I fucking loved it that night!!
