Ozric Tentacles are very spacey. Kinda reminicent of Pink Floyd.
Cool website, though.

On the Pongmaster's Ball DVD, everytime the flute guy (he keeps changing his name, so I don't quite know what to call him) rolls up a spliff, the camera pulls away quickly. It's funny. Flute man smokes them through his flute and everything.

Have you heard this guitar solo from one of Dream Theater's songs 'As I Am'?
As I Am
the Petrucci solo? i didnt like it...
the last 2 Dream Theater albums (Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Train of Thought) have failed to impress me.
What do think of this new prog band, The Mars Volta?
Whenever I look at prog websites, Frank Zappa is put under prog rock or fusion. Although, I wouldn't be able to categorise him.Originally posted by Shaun Ponsonby
Frank Zappa wasn't really prog. I don't think you could possibly catagorise Zappa.
ISNT DEF LEPPARD KINDA PROGRESSIVE ROCK?

Again, I wouldn't really call the Mars Volta prog, I'd call them indie or alternative.
You want real new-prog, check out Glass Hammer.
has anyone mentioned Magma yet?
They had a completely unique sound, it was called 'Zehul', which actually means celestial. Magma even had their own language called Kobaian.
Yeah! i'm impress that someone know Magma that's cool.Christian Vander the drummer is the best!Originally posted by Soul Reaper

Got it !Originally posted by Mr Badguy
I love all of that stuff, particularly Rush, Yes and (Fish era) Marillion.
However, one of my favourite Prog albums, and a largely forgotten one, is Jeff Wayne`s "War of the worlds".
Anyone else got it?
You`d never get away with an album like that now.
It`s amazing that you could ever make an album like that back then and it would actually chart.
What the fuck is wrong with music fans these days?
The are totally closed to something that radical.
The chances of anything coming form Mars are a million to one !
But still they come !
How about Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield ?

Well they call themselves prog and they are listed as prog. But who cares?Originally posted by Shaun Ponsonby

Glass Hammer, eh? I'll check them out.
My favourite prog verse ever;
"Welcome back my friends
To the show that never ends
We're so glad you could attend
Come Inside, come inside..."
-Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Karn Evil 9 1st impression part 2
Everyone know 'Your Move' by Yes (part a of All Good People). Who would have thought that you could sing so passionately and with so much feeling about chess. Most beautiful piece of music.
Are you a Genesis fan, Shaun?
Genesis are Ok. I like Steve Hackett/ Peter Gabriel (fuck Phil Collins).
Supper's Ready I like with the 9/8 time signature in the middle.
What about Jethro Tull?
Again, I don't mind them, but they could never be rated alongside Yes or Emerson, Lake and Palmer or Pink Floyd etc.
Can you guys recommend some stuff?
Not DT, I have a couple o' Cd's and they are awesome.

Pink Floyd - The Wall.
I'm sure most people have a Pink Floyd album anyway.
Ozric Tentacles...I'll see if i find can find some stuff with them.
Liquid Tension Experiment are great...That was the band with the two from Dream T. Right?(Jordan Rudess & Mike Portnoy)
Kansas probrably hasn't been the same since Kerry Livgren left, but he has since formed his original band Protokaw. As far as Neal Morse's ONE cd, yeah great cd, and they happen to be great friends of mine. I have just finished recording drum tracks for Randy George who also played bass on the ONE cd, besides myself, some other guest's to be included are: Neal Morse, Kerry Livgren, Phil Keaggy, David Beegle, David Ragsdale. The cd should hopefully be due out sometime this summer. Please check it out.

Anyone heard of a band called Riverside? Heard one track thought it was pretty good sort of Marillion/Dream Theater vibe you can check them out here:
http://www.progarchives.com/Progress...p?band_id=1287
Soul Reaper asked who had heard of The Mars Volta, to which I replied "I wouldn't call them Prog". I appear to have gotten The Mars Volta mixed up with another band. And yes, they are Progressive Rock. I apologise for my misunderstanding.
So, to conclude, The Mars Volta ARE a Prog Band and they are OK.
