Dr. Nathan Roth wasn't really thrilled with Dave's choice but thought a year of trying to make it would descourage the kid. Instead of kicking Dave out of the house or belittling him, Dave's dad helped his kid try and succeed even if he knew it was nearly impossible.

Ain't that the truth! Parents can either crush a kid's spirit or let it fly free. It's so obvious that Davy Baby had the loving upbringing and it shows in his personality. Ed and Alex are miserable shitheads because their Dad was.
