both drunks? Eddie by legacy
All bullshit aside, Zakk is the first to say Ed was one of his biggest influences. I've heard him say numerous times that he loves to crank classic Van Halen in the tour bus.

While Sack is a great guitar player, he's a Lynyrd Skynyrd wannabe...
Too much twang for Ozzy...
He also was able to capture some of the magic of Randy Rhodes with his live playing, but comparing him to Edward ??
Not

Agreed. It's like comparing

But seriously, which one has had a bigger impact on Rock and Roll? There really is no contest here - Results matter. One will be in the Hall, one likely won't.
Edward.
I would not doubt that Zakk would outplay eddie right now though.

Love ya Mary Frances!
Eddie and here’s why. They both would have to play on stage with Dave.
Eddie’s game would have to come back up to arena level and not club level. When that happens….. well, just look at the Rio mm download. That’s what an Eddie Van Halen is.

I've always admired Zakk's attitude a bit more than his skills. Having said that, are we talking Eddie circa 1980 or Eddie 2004 Van Hagar reunion tour cos I'd prefer to see Zakk play nowadays.

You are one bitter little skeezer. I dont care whos better. I put up this thread to see what the fans like? Not what you think. If you were at the least a little intelligent you would have been able to find out that one user is coming from carleton ottawa and the other from peterborough. But you couldnt catch that so why should i expect you to catch on to this thread you ignorant donkey fucking piece fo shit.Originally posted by Roth & Roll

Oh yeah, Eddie back in his early days of course, but right now I'd take Zakk. Eddie hasn't come up with any good licks for years/decades.Originally posted by EbDawson

And for the record Classic eddie rips i mean you cant beat the one channel cranked and the other channel just barely able to hear but if balanced can be noted that eddies sounds like he is in a room at the end of a long hall with tons of reverb and hes melting down amps. And when both channels are combined make for one furious and amazing guitar sound. Who else has done that. But for tdays standards? I mean Zakk makes its about time look it was written by Serial Joe fuck. I have to say Eddie has the years but zakks got the style..
If we are comparing Zakk 2004 v EVH 2004.
Zakk is better.
(Sad but true)
If we are comparing them at their peaks.
EVH.......
Very true, back in the day it was Ed by a mile.Originally posted by Panamark

LOl Eddie changed guitar playing forever he is a living legend and was in the greatest rock band of all time you cant compare Zakk hes done nothing compared to EVH. he's just another shredder wannabe with attitude & an image
gotta go w/the king

Nobody could touch Ed in his prime, but today Zakk is the last of the Mohicans. He is carrying what little is left of the Guitar Hero Torch. If Ed had reunited with Dave instead of Sham, his playing would have reignited guitar oriented Rock. Hard Rock needs new life breathed into it and a Van Halen reunion would have done the trick. With out the intervention of DLR, I am afraid VH is finished. As for Zakk, he is an ass kicking guitarist and we should be thankful he is on the seen trying to keep Hard Rock on the map. Van Hagar sure as hell isn't.
nowadays...Zakk cuz he lives around the corner and shops at the same grocery store that I do
Easy for me to answer, I'll go with Eddie. Truth be told, I haven't heard anything from Zakk outside of Pride & Glory and Ozzy, so I'm basing my opinion on that...haven't heard BLS yet...

And Zakk would be the first to agree with all of us that the Eddie of 1974-85 was THE man. No contest. Zakk is a great player but the young Eddie was a genius. Today, however, I would rather listen to Zakk's work over the last 10-15 years than listen to what Eddie has done in the same period.
I would like to see that.Originally posted by Calderone

Maybe Dave could do an album with guest guitarists.
Have to agree... and also with the post that even Zakk says Eddie 78-85 was THE MAN.Originally posted by Panamark

At their best.... no contest, even Zakk admits that..
Why the fuck do you think you are here It ain't about Dave and Zach Dave and Steve, Dave and Jake.......IT'S ABOUT DAVE AND ED PERIOD! WHY THE FUCK IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?
DAVE OR THE GRAVE!
I go for Zakk.
He's got all of Eddie's chops and more, but he combines them with a melodic skill that Eddie never had and never will.
It's cool that Ed came up with all of the tapping, I guess (tapping is soooo dead). But in terms of using his head while he's playing, Ed's just stuck in a groove (a couple of fast licks, follow with tapping, then stacato picking while sliding up a string is most solos).
Plus Zakk is a great song writer. I have all the BLS cds and the guy can write kick ass hard rock, southern rock, country and ballads. His lyrics are also great.
You also have to give Zakk credit for being a conservative in the music industry. Ozzy put up a picture of Bush and Hitler during a Sabbath show trying to equate the two, and Zakk came out and went on a rant about arab terrorists.
What more can you ask for???
I would love to hear Ozzy sing for BLS....those songs are just crying for Ozzy!!!Originally posted by famac

Ed's legacy, minus this outing along with Hagar and VH III, is enough to allow him godhood among guitarists, but right now if they went into a guitar duel Zakk would treat him like a red headed step child.
I agree, but unfortunately Dave and Ed no longer work together.Originally posted by JCOOK

If the brothers are going to keep denying us a CVH reunion then I'd love to see what Dave could do with other great players like Zakk.
The new BLS most definitely. The older shit I do not know if Ozzy would be as effective in them.Originally posted by WACF

BLS is pretty fucking sweet. Even before BLS, the Pride and Glory shit is killer.
Captain Caveman and his pinched harmonics are pretty annoying. Ed. No contest.
Zakk vs. Ed? Old ED or new ED? CVH Ed, then Ed would severely kick Zakk's stupid ass... New Ed, then Ed MIGHT kick Zakk's stupid ass. Zakk wouldn't really have a chance...
