    1. Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
    2. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones
    3. Imagine - John Lennon
    4. What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
    5. Respect - Aretha Franklin
    6. Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys
    7. Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry
    8. Hey Jude - The Beatles
    9. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana (WTF??)
    10. What I'd Say? - Ray Charles

    Angry OLD BALLZ

Notice how 9 out of 10 songs are from the 60-70's, or earlier?!?
Just illustrates that the RS editors are OLD BASTARDS still stuck in the music of their youth!
    Wait a minute...........
    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! So am I!!!!

Switch, why do you subscribe to that rag anyway?

    Seriously...

It is utter b/s, just like the other "poll" mentioned in the earlier thread today.

It was for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. I get a year for .50 per copy and all of the money goes to the cancer fund.

No, you should be commended for that!

    Still...

Next Newport you fire up, light that rag aflame along with it.

    Then-

Shake it, sh-shake it (Oh oh!)
    Shake it, sh-shake it
    Shake it, sh-shake it
    Shake it, shake it
    Sh-shake it (Oh oh!)
Shake it like a polaroid picture

You'll find that Newport much more pleasureable watching that b/s chart turn to ash.

I love Nirvana. I will say this: TEEN SPIRIT is their most obviously catchy song, but definitely nowhere near their actual best song. I think Nirvana deserved a few on there (I don't know how many they got).

As for VH not getting any, that figures. I guess OUTKAST is more important to rock history than Van fucking Halen.

I fucking hate Rolling Stone. It's a corporate rock publication run by hippies. I hate corporate hacks and I hate hippies...thus I hate the magazine. I'm sick of hearing about the fucking sixties.

Oh yeah, it's just that usually the just the "hit" songs are what make lists like these.

You're absolutely right. And the thing is, that's the short-sightedness of ROLLING STONE. There's a lot more to a band than its hit singles. I would argue that almost anything off the IN UTERO album, for instance, is better than TEEN SPIRIT.

ROLLING STONE didn't even pay attention to VH back in the day. Even now, they still begrudgingly give Zeppelin respect even though they were shitting on them all through the Seventies.

Rolling Stone never ONCE put Van Halen on the cover of their magazine. What does that tell you?

And before some dumbassed fucking sheep tries to correct me, I said Van Halen.

Here's the full cover dated Apr. '85 after he left Van Halen! I found it at the rag's website under Davy Baby's bio.

The longest amount of time I’ve time spent looking at an issue of Rolling Stone is in that brief moment between using it to wipe my ass and flushing it down the toilet.

Putting Nirvana in the top ten of any list is a knee jerk reaction now-a-days. They can never give you a REAL reason for doing it. It’s just a way to appease the Seattle crowd and their clones. Their contribution to Rock was destroying the technique, creativity, and energy that put the genre above hip hop, disco, etc.
The Fat Lady is singing for Van Hagar.

    FUCK!
    I do remember that cover...

Don't worry Switch, they send it to me for free and have for years. I rarely even open the thing up... Straight to the recycle heap along with the comp issues of Star I've begged them to stop sending.

I barely have any time to read the stuff I do willingly subscribe to.

I'm told it works great as bird cage liner though, so there is another thought...

They probably downgrade any band that they feel fits into the redneck category.

I had the original RS reviews of the Mighty Six posted over at ddlr.com, pre-crash. They tore those fuckin' albums apart. Nothing good to say whatsoever, as I recall.

    But they loved 5150.

    Don't sweat it, Switch.

Chalk it up to charity and a good deed done.

RS was and is largely a bought and paid for shill sheet for the entertainment industry... They have not had much legit credibility following the early days and it has been a steady decline ever since.

Think of it in the same league as say, "Entertainment Tonight", in terms of journalistic integrity. In other words, ZILCH.

I'll read RS once in a while at the gym. I like some of the pics. When I want to read interesting articles, I turn to Cosmo. LOL.

    Well, that is true.

Some of the photography is outstanding, I must say.

Hey, speaking of Cosmo... what was the scoop with the recent headline I saw gracing the cover while standing in line at the grocery that read "hotter than dynamite in dixie, how to create an explosion of delights morning, noon and night"?

    Just wondering....
