Auburn

USC, 'cause of the politics....
Meaning, Auburn won't get a shot, like I believe they should....

If Auburn beats Tennessee...I think they will pass Oklahoma...just my belief...
who cares..its a joke...we need a playoff system
How would the playoff work?
What would the cutoff be?
8 teams?
16 teams?
Where would the games be played...or better yet...how would you decide the top 16?...or 8...or 4?
What happens if the big 6 conferences have a #23 ranked as their highest?...would they not get in?
and if that's the case...how do you have a playoff that isn't totally dominated by the top 6 conferences...who have all the money...and don't want to give it up?
a playoff isn't as easy as it sounds...
although I agree...something needs to be done...
top 8.....10 game regular season for all...keep the ranking sytem...the computer BCS bullshit...
after 10 games..top 8 play in the major bowls..i guess..its just a matter of what bowl gets what game..what rd...alot of loose ends..but its gotta be done..this year would be a prime example..a cluster fuck..let em play each other
Well...the initial problem is the 10 game regular season...
you immediately exclude a boatload of money for a ton of non-conference games...
The reason that a playoff is held up isn't because it doesn't make sense...it's because the NCAA has a money maker...and all this is killing it...
There are a ton of questions you have to answer...
1...a 10 game season makes sense...but...you've eliminated conference championships...
2...You've also killed 105 schools any chance of making any money...since only 8 teams make it...and chances are...most of them will be from major conferences...
3...The BCS sucks for the top 5...why would it be any different for the top 8?
4...What about 9, 10, 11, 12, 13...those teams that are just as good as 5-8...like this year?
5...What if you are 3...and you lose the last week of the year...and drop to 9 because there are a lot of 1 loss teams?
With 64...the bubble teams are easier to swallow...but top 8?
I think it would have to be top 16...
you have a 10 game schedule...like you said...ends the third week of November...
The following week which are all playin games...conference championships...
Round 1...First week of December...16 teams
Round 2...Second week of December...8 teams
Round 3...Third week of December...4 teams...
Round 4...New Year's Day...the Championship Game...and to swallow up the fans into it...you add the all-star games the same day...I don't know...
I actually don't like this...as I typed it...
but it's a way...
would it be as simple as adding the 11th regular season game..hell, play 12...then have a playoff..or is it asking too much to play that many games??
With 116 plus schools, or whatever it is..there is simply no way to make it fair far all..
LOL, yeah Ok. SC won't earn it, you're right.Originally posted by Va Beach VH Fan

Why don't you guys tell me what ONE team has actually beaten two BCS-bound teams? USC, with wins over Cal and Virginia Tech. Yeah it's all politics. Fucking East Coast bias at work again, jesus. Yeah politics that fucked USC last year, you're right. At least Auburn can't say they were #1 in both polls and getting fucked too.
SC would hand Auburn its ass, like it did last year. Maybe this year though, Auburn will get past the 50. :p

Oh and BTW, Craig James and Aaron Taylor are two of the fucking WORST analysts I've ever heard. Fucking stupid ass homers, nauseating. Yeah Jason White is the best player in the country on th best team. Yeah ok dickheads, whatever you say. Can someone fix Aaron Taylor's mouth, stupid ass Notre Dame alum talks out of the side of his mouth. Go get your crooked mouth fixed dope. He might as well talk out of his ass, since he pretty much does anyway.
Now that USC won by the skin of their teeth against 6-5 UCLA, are you telling me that USC deserves to be #1 after that mediocre performance Brett ??Originally posted by Brett

Let's not forget about that 10 point swing at the end of the 1st half, when they blew the non-fumble call....USC could have easily lost that game....
I know it won't happen, but USC should be bumped down to #3 after that game....
Oklahoma should be #1 after it's trouncing of Colorado in the Big 12 Championship...
Auburn should be #2 after beating Tennessee in the SEC Championship....
USC didn't play like the #1 team in the country yesterday, the other teams did....
And before you start talking about East Coast bias again, I'm referring to two hick schools in the South and Midwest....
Well Va...
I hate to say it...but USC deserves to be #1...they've done nothing not to prove that...
UCLA is a rival...and they came to play...it was their bowl game...
Unfortunately...now...USC won't get to prove they are the complete #1 because there will be another undefeated...which is total bullshit...
With that being said...preseason polls shouldn't predicate the final game...
the only reason why USC and Oklahoma are ranked ahead of Auburn is simple...
they were preranked 1 and 2...whil Auburn was pre-ranked 17...
if you want to fix the process...you don't have a preseason poll...and wait until...say week three to put out a poll...
Then you get a better feel...
As much as you say Brett...that USC is better than the rest (and c'mon...last year's Auburn team is obviously not this year's team)...you truly don't know that for sure...unless they play...
I happen to think USC is for real...but I can't be sure if they are more for real than Okie (who I despise) or Auburn (who I despise)...
I'm unbiased based on the fact that I dislike all three teams...equally...lmfao...
The BCS system sucks.

Um yes, USC deserves to be #1. It's funny how every team gets a pass when they play their BIGGEST rivals but USC? Nice fucking double-standard. UCLA came to play, and SC outgained them what, by almost 200 yards in total offense? UCLA made some big plays and it kept them in it, and USC couldn't fucking get the ball in the end zone and had to settle for field goals. Anything can happen in the USC/UCLA game, it's like every other great 80-year rivalry. There's a lot pride at UCLA, they'd been embarrassed three straight years by USC. They played hard. It does happen. And Oklahoma beat a shitass HORRIBLE Colorado team, let's not act like they've beaten anyone. The Big-12 was a pretty big shitpile this season.
Auburn brags they are 4-0 against ranked teams. Let's look at that a little shall we.
They're 2-0 against Tennessee. The same Tennessee team that was beaten at home by Notre Dame. And of course we know what USC did to Notre Dame.
Then Auburn BARELY, by the skin of their chinny, chin chin beat LSU. The same LSU team that was outplayed and dominated at home by Oregon St., but because of a fluke of missed FG's and extra points, LSU won that game. And of course USC handled Oregon St.
So that leaves Auburn's other ranked win over Georgia. BFD.
Obviously there is no way you can have 3 teams play each other with the BCS, so the system worked as well as it could. It sucked ass last year, it was dumb again this year.
Look I think Auburn is worthy (of course), but you saying USC should be dropped to #3 because UCLA played them tough in a huge rivalry game is just dumb. I didn't see anyone penalize Auburn when Alabama played them tough, and don't tell me Alabama is any better than UCLA.
I agree with the pre-season poll thing. SC and OU were 1 and 2 all year, and never lost. That is why they're 1 and 2 now. Seems pretty obvious. But that's the system unfortunately. And shit, how often does that happen?
Last edited by Brett; 12-06-2004 at 01:26 PM.
Not often...but the fact that it can...proves that this system should be scrapped...
I could care a less of the 3 teams to be honest...like I said...I don't like any of them...
but it would be nice in instances like this for there to at least be a 4 game playoff...between the top 4 teams...
1 against 4...
2 against 3...
USC vs. Texas...
Oklahoma vs. Auburn...
I actually like the Texas deal to be honest...simply because I don't know that you'd want Cal to get another shot at USC...it's tough to beat a rival like that twice...
and no way Texas beats USC...
winner take all...
Alas...we live in a shitheal system...
Oklahoma is beatable. Texas could have beat then if they didn't have the worst offensive coordinator in the nation. USC is better from top to bottom and Oklahoma's defense is the weaker of the two. People are reading too much into the close USC/UCLA game. UCLA played their best game of the year.
And yeah, I hate OU!
"If anyone came here hoping to hear Sammy Hagar Van Halen, there's the fucking door, man!" Ralph Saenz, Atomic Punks

UCLA played for pride, that was their national championship game. Give credit where credit is due.
The OU/USC game is going to come down to which defense can stop either of these two great offenses. I think SC just has by far the better defense.
I don't know that it's by far the better defense...although I would say that it may be better...
I think USC's offense may be a bit better as well...
not sure why I think that...
I think it will be a good game...
and will come down to turnovers...
SC has more big playmakers on offense I think, but sometimes the defense struggles a little against a decent back....like JJ Arrington for example. And Notre Dame ran the ball fairly effective early. I expect Adrian Peterson will have some success.
Like I said...I think both times will be able to move the ball...
It will come down to a big stop...
or a turnover...
I actually belive the BCS is an improvement over previous sytems in college football. I don't want to see a playoff because college football is the only sport where every game counts.
1 - If there was a playoff sytem the first thing that would happen is the teams on the bubble that get left out would bitch and moan (ex: the first thing talked about with the NCAA basketball tournament is the exclusions)
2 - The regualar season would become less special. The way it is now, every game has the potential to be deciding the national title. NCAA regular season hoops is a joke. While there may be exciting games and good rivalries all the decent teams will make the tournament anyway ans wheteher Duke beats Carolina once, twice or in the conference tournament really means shit when it come to deciding the national championship
3 - The BCS hasn't been a failure. The great Miami-Ohio State game wouldn't have taken place if not for the BCS.
4 - If the BCS wasn't in affect, USC would be in the Rose Bowl, Auburn in the Sugar and Oklahoma in the Orange. I think the curernt matchup of Oklahoma vs USC is better than the pre-BCS scenario.
1. Yeah...but the teams on the bubble wouldn't be undefeated...and with a legit claim...although there will still be bitching...
2. I disagree...the regular season would still be special based on division rivals....and their effect on each other beating each other up to keep them out of the playoff...The rivalries in football would carry on...
3. No...the BCS hasn't been a failure...I concur...but...when you have a two year stretch without a clearcut national champ (which is what the BCS publically was supposed to do...although privately we know it was a way to keep 95% of the money in the pockets of the Major Conferences)...so a failure no...it is better than the old system...but working?...no...
4. That's why the BCS is better than the old system...Bids would have been in the bag early...late October...hell...Virginia Tech may not have gotten the bid to the Major Bowl...it may have been offered to Miami BEFORE they lost to VTech...
Alls I'm saying here...is there would be an easy way to allot an extra game if needed...Call it what you want...but when you have 2 legit teams AFTER the BCS games...you could play another...
or...go with a legit...well thought out playoff system would be the best...but a lot would have to happen for it to work...
