I believe others have said that Ed said, "There's the King, right there", and pointed to Sham, or something along those lines....

But to me, whether it was anger-based or whatever, the thought I kept saying to myself over and over was "what a drunk fool".....

I also don't think he threw the guitar at all, I think he was so fucked up it slipped out of his hand while he was swinging it around....

I can't believe 3/4 of these guys were so close to being at the iconic level of rock and roll, up there with Zep, Sabbath, and the like....

I don't see the big deal either. Breaking guitars is common place in Rock N Roll - just ask Ritchie Blackmore. If I was there, I wouldn't have even thought twice about it. Obviously, he was drunk, but drunk people break things. Its part of the fun of being drunk, I guess. Watching that video doesn't dramatically tell me "Van Hagar is over!" Rather, it’s the anti-climatic ticket sales, Sam's desire to tour with his lame band, and the absence of a record contract that tell me “Van Hagar is over.”

What impressed me the most about the vid is that the wolfgang held together when it was pounded. That's a sturdy fuckin guitar... although that green is ugly as fuck!!!

I happened to have been at Monterey Pop in 67 when Townsend and Hendrix smashed their axes... I put Jimi at a 10 on the destructive scale... Pete at an 8 and Eddie at 2... Next time Ed needs to bring some lighter fluid and bic... it makes a better show!!!

Having seen this tour several times, here's what I think.
I think he was irritated. My reason is this, Of the 4 times I saw this show, he NEVER just walked off stage. He stayed out there and waved and interacted with the fans for a long time. He never just walked off stage. I saw Ed miffed at Sam a couple of times and I saw Sam miffed at Ed a couple of times, then the next show they would be all hugs and cuddles... I think this was one of their bad nights, bar far the worst.
