In the last couple of weeks a lot of threads have discussed this story of Dave and Ed rehearsing together in 2000.
I was never sure if this was true ,was there any substance to this and what happened?

Yes it happened.

It obviously didn't work out.

Duh....
but could you be more specific about WHY it didn't work out.
Those three songs they worked on... please tell me we haven't heard them.
Was it really the legal aspect of things that got in the way?
Van halen news desk april through august 2001 for all the info
Ed's cancer for one. Dave turned him to his uncle? Jack Roth who is a cancer specialist....They were rumored to have recorded, as Dave put it " 3 amazing, astonishing, the hands fell off the clock" tunes. Ed also blamed the lawyers.
So then what happened in 04?
Dumb fuckers....
The Fry Cook returned! My guess is the cash split is what is preventing a full scale reunion and/or album. My bet is Dave asked for his fair share(rightfully so) and the VH's said no. Sam is just a hired hand, always has been, and takes whatever they give him.Originally posted by lms2

When Ed "blames the lawyers" what that really means is that Ed offered Dave a shitty deal (e.g. work for wages not profits) and that Dave rejected the offer, requiring 25% of profits to rejoin the band.Originally posted by Carmine Raguzza.

Really? So Sam has been working for wages since 1986?Originally posted by Carmine Raguzza.

Of course the stupid thing about this is that Ed and Al will make far more money sharing profits with Dave than by paying wages to Sammy. But, of course, Al's huge (and totally unwarranted) ego gets in the way.Originally posted by dave_is_vh

Or maybe a better way of putting it is Al's "low self esteem" gets in the way.Originally posted by dave_is_vh

Thats the part that sucks about the whole thing. There would be SO MUCH MONEY generated by the return of DLR with a new cd and tour, they could all swim in it till doomsday! 25% a peice WTF!!! That would be about 20 mill, EACH!
...Either way the fans get screwed. No new music at all (w/ Dave) or shitty watered down music with Beavis and Butthead lyrics sung by this dude's twin...
No, but it's generally believed he has been working this tour under that arrangement, while hoping to spur sales of Van Hagar era recordings.Originally posted by dave_is_vh

Also Dave has been screwed on the renegotiated record deal (with Warner in 1996) regarding profit sharing for the albums he recorded with VH. He claims to be receiving a third of what the other members get on each CD sold.
Did Dave "accidently" fuck one of Al's ex-wives while Al was still married to her? That is the only way I can explain Al's stupidity.
That legend may never be known, but Fuggin makes sense considering!Originally posted by dave_is_vh

Carmine - you said Sam has been working for wages since 1986. Is that for real? I thought he just started working for wages on the current tour.
I don't think Dave "accidently" does anyone.
There was a big beef about the cut on merch sales.....Originally posted by Carmine Raguzza.

No, I meant this tour. Sorry. At least thats whats been said. I wouldnt be suprised though if he were hired on "WAGE" since 86....Originally posted by dave_is_vh

True, and Dave wanted design input as well. On merch, albums covers etc. just like the old days!Originally posted by rustoffa

What I still find hilarious is that when the reunion rumors were all over the place in 2000, Warner Brothers remastered the six pack. Then Van Hagar truly does reunite, tours and WB still never remasters Van Hagar albums. That speaks motherfucking volumes!!!
ROTFLMAO!!!!!
Roth and Roll!!!!
EAT US AND SMILE!!!!
There are only so many sheep in this world. To be more specific there are only about 5,000 sheep for every city in the US with a 25,000 seat arena.
This is like groundhogg day without the payoff.
Ed goes to DLR they do the shit ( 96 2tracks)
And then Back again (2000 3tracks).
Has anyone heard these 2000 demo's.
I thought the 96 stuff the real deal it sounded like vintage VH.
Top vocals ,great chorus and sounded like a band.
Was the 2000 stuff in the same ball park.
Can I scare you a bit can you remember the release of 1984.
20 Years dudes.
Throw us a fucking line!!!!!
THe stuff from 2000? Until the SISTERS grow up and start acting like 50 year old men, nothing is gonna happen.
Okay, what about the 2002 reunion rumors?
I never of heard any? Wasn't that the year of the Spam/Dave Tour?Originally posted by Nickdfresh

Who really knows with these fuckers. Reading between the lines (From the mouth of Dave) once he found out that they had shafted him on the royalties, they could no longer face him..
I think its a combo of Dave requesting a fair cut, and also Dave
wanting the same creative input as the glory days. Edwina and Alice
both feel they run the show now, and feel intimidated by Dave.
I think neither side will take a back step. Therein lies the problem.
As fans of the original band, we all know that Dave needs to get
in there as Dave. Not a hired hand, if we are to have any hope of
real music out of the two fuckfaces again.
Everyone knows Sam takes it in the ass from everywhere, Mikey,
Aliens, the sisters, managers.. He's a yes dog.
Edwina and Alice can run the show with Samantha.
Comments by Al in recent interviews such as "Sammy is a fan of Van Halen" prove this.
So Ed and Al, get their half assed tour with their guaranteed fee, and we the fans get the lamest Van Halen songs ever released, and a band in total dischord once again..
Fuck the sisters. They have to take that back step....
BABY PANA 2 IS Coming !! All across the land, let the love and beer flow !
Love ya Mary Frances!
At this point they don't have any other choice.[i] Fuck the sisters. They have to take that back step.... [/B]
There are always choices, and unfortunately, they keep making the wrong ones...Originally posted by dave_is_vh

Lot of nice specualtion, opinions and guesswork... the facts are no one knows the facts except Dave, the brothers and the lawyers. Same w/ Sam and his recent deal w/ the brothers.
We can talk all day about the legal and financial aspects among these guys but nobody has the actual facts... so I wouldn't take much at face value on what is posted on any of the sites in this area.
Of the material that was produced in 2000... initially Dave said it was earthshattering in a public statement. A year later Ed said it wasn't anything great and wouldn't see the light of day. Sometime after that Dave mentions they were just rough demos and nothing to get worked up about. I read that to mean... Dave inititally put his positive spin on this material... but in the long run it ended up just being something that will be forgotten and put behind em.

The thing is, I never actually heard Dave say they were nothing to get worked up about. He just admitted they were rough demos.
Eddie has a way of putting down work he did more than a year ago. That fucking BALANCE (and it's Japanese version:p ) come out, and Ed is claiming that it's the greatest thing the band ever recorded. "I like every song" (he says this during EVERY release...even said it during the DIVER DOWN interviews). Then, by the next album, he claims that BALANCE was weak and didn't have meaning. He's right...but then he goes on to compliment VH3:eek: . Eddie puts down everything that's gotten "old" in his mind.
I bet the demos were pretty good. It is Dave and Eddie. But I also bet they were probably pretty rough.

The band did come very close to getting together in 2000. it was contractual problem not pertaining to splits that caused the breakdown. I've heard the material and to be very honest it wasn't as stong as what dave did with them on the first greatest hits. and Sammy called alex the minute the tour with Dave ended. unfortunately dave was never in the running for the latest tour.
