You don't show up drunk at a funeral, you don't drink at a funeral, you bring your grief and respect to the defunct man/woman.

Of course, nobody here would have been put into a Kiss coffin, otherwise the priest would have kicked the coffin with the dead man inside out of the church.

If Jeff Porcaro wanted to be buried with his drumsticks, the only way in Rome would have been shoving them up his ass. You can't be so unrespectful.

The point is: Eddie can't live without a bottle. I understand drinking in honour of someone - not at a funeral, though - but the funeral was just an excuse for alcoholic Eddie to get his daily dose, actually.

Look, I think Eddie is a drunken fucking bum just as much as the next guy.

But the point I'm trying to make is this....

In SOME circles, drinking at a funeral is perfectly acceptable. In some others...it's EXPECTED.

NYPD, FDNY, ANY AND EVERY Irish funeral, Bikers....and yes....gasp....rock stars.

Who's kidding who? It's not like they're putting the POPE in the ground.

DIMEBAG was a rowdy, beer drinking, middle finger pointing, pick-up driving, proudass redneck from TEXAS.

Ice cold Bud's and shot's of Jack for EVERYONE.

Ok. I don't understand this, I am sorry.

It's the funeral as an institution that I do respect, even if I am atheist. I am not talking about a religious thing, but an institution to salute a dead person. This is not an AA meeting.

If you want to turn everything into a fucking Circus, ok, go for it. But just don't deny the fact you're turned the extreme salute to a friend into a fucking Circus.

So let's show him a middle finger while the coffin goes six feet under, let's nudge our balls, boast farts, spit on the coffin laughing and curse.

I mean, is this what we should do when we bury a redneck?

But again, we're talking about DIME here, people...it was probably stated IN HIS WILL that everyone had to do "Blacktooth grin" shots (and probably a few bongloads) at the funeral.....in his boozing honor......may he rest in peace.

Come on. Darrell was so young he surely didn't have a will, I am sure he didn't even ever think seriously about his passing away.

And Eddie is a fucking wino, father of a fat son, still.

First of all Eddie is a lying Dutchman.

Secondly, I thought they drank at the WAKE AFTER the funeral, not fucking show up half-in-the-bag.

Well, you have a point there. Dime was like, 2 months older than me, and I sure as shit don't sit around contemplating my death on a regular basis. I fully endorse people doing shots at my funeral, however. F that everybody sitting around crying and shit....I'd prefer someone celebrate my life rather than mourn my death.

Not to get off topic, but was Phil Anselmo there? Has he made any comments about Darrell since his passing?

No, he was banned from the memorial...

    http://www.bravewords.com/news.html?id=21164

PHIL ANSELMO - "I Never Got A Chance To Say Goodbye ... And It Kills Me"

The following report is courtesy of Nola.com's Keith Spera:

The onstage killing of former bandmate "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott has left ex-PANTERA vocalist and north shore resident Phil Anselmo distraught and questioning his own future.

In a transcript of a videotaped statement released to the media Tuesday, Anselmo said: "People want my reaction to what happened. This is about Dimebag Darrell, purely Darrell. It's not about me or some . . . psycho that happened to destroy the most beautiful person, one of my best friends in the world."

Abbott, 38, was shot and killed Dec. 8 while performing with the hard rock band DAMAGEPLAN at a Columbus, Ohio, nightclub. Three other people, including Damageplan's chief of security, died after Nathan Gale, 25, opened fire with a handgun. Gale was an ex-Marine and metal fan reportedly angered by the band Pantera's breakup. He was shot and killed by a police officer responding to 911 calls.

Anselmo and Abbott spent 15 years touring the world together in Pantera.

Pantera didn't achieve widespread success until Anselmo, a New Orleans native, joined about 1989. Pantera sold more than 10 million albums, collected two Grammy nominations and inspired legions of aspiring hard rock bands. But by 2002, Anselmo, Darrell Abbott and his brother Vinnie Paul Abbott, the band's drummer, had become estranged as Anselmo devoted more time to other projects.

In 2003, they confirmed that Pantera had disbanded, as the two camps exchanged accusations in the hard rock press. Anselmo was at home on the north shore last week when Abbott was killed. As OZZY OSBOURNE, Paul Stanley of KISS, Brian May of QUEEN and other rock icons memorialized Abbott, a devastated Anselmo made no public comment until Tuesday.

Anselmo's statement says that "the heavy metal media destroyed Pantera." He laments that he "never got a chance to say goodbye (to Abbott) in the right way and it kills me, and I'm so sorry."

Anselmo traveled to Dallas for Abbott's funeral. But he ended up not attending "to respect the (Abbott) family's wishes, and they do not want me there. I believe I belong there, but I understand completely. I wish his family the least grief they could ever have, and I know it's impossible. Just bless his family, bless his friends. I love him like a brother loves a brother. . . . I'm so sorry to his family and everyone else who was senselessly killed in Columbus, Ohio."

His statement hints at an uncertain professional future.

"This has changed the entire world, and this is the last you'll be seeing of me for a long time."

That's too bad he was barred from the memorial. People have their differences. It's human nature. But it just goes to show that life's too short to be angry and or hold a grudge. They say time heals all wounds, but not in this case. I am shocked and saddened by Darrell's death, even though I was not a fan of his music. I do respect Darrell's talent and his contributions to the rock community. The fact is, a 38 year old was killed for absolutely no reason, as were the other victims that night. Regardless of the circumstances or who they were, it is a tragedy anyway you look at it. Five lives were lost that night, but countless others will be changed forever, including Phil Anselmo's. I respect the Abbott's family's wishes to not have Anselmo attend, but I feel for him too. It's one thing to lose a friend or family member but it's even harder when they leave and you have regrets about not picking up the phone, visiting or trying yo make ammends.

I think it was good he was banned. I guess he stated that DD should be hunted and beaten for breaking up the band. He sent a message to this deranged fan as far as I am concerned. You can't make statements like that.

So a statement by Anselmo that is just now being published later this week somehow caused that idiot to kill Dimebag eight days ago?

    Your logic escapes me.

No no... Fabolous is right. He is referring to this message, which happened a week or so before Dime was killed :

    Original Phil Anselmo message
PHILIP ANSELMO: 'DIMEBAG DARRELL Deserves To Be Beaten Severely' - Dec. 1, 2004

In a lengthy interview published in the "Xmas 2004" issue of Metal Hammer magazine, ex-PANTERA/curent SUPERJOINT RITUAL frontman Philip Anselmo spoke extensively about the breakup of his previous band and the status of all of his musical projects, among many other topics. Several excerpts from the interview follow:

On Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul's claim that Philip left PANTERA without telling them he was leaving:

"Well, they have phones as well. And they weren't communicating with me. Their way of communication was through, so they would send their errand girl to call me up and see where my head was at. Now that was pretty offensive, so I didn't play that game, and time passed. And I don't let time pass, I have to do something, I can't sit on my ass and just do nothing, I have to do something, and it must be musical. When I don't use my gift I become defunct and I become clumsy and I become useless. It's a terrible feeling to be that vulnerable.

"When you use your gift, you're on top of the world. You feel worth something, you know? You feel that you've done something, and you have, you've created. I've done that with many, many, many bands on my own time, and I was always there whenever PANTERA called to do the next record, the next tour, whatever it took, and I was always 100% there."

On what went wrong with PANTERA:

"Through devotion to and scheduling with PANTERA, a lot of things got pushed to the side — and the incarnation of other great bands like DOWN which I was part of took a lot of time and whatnot. Everything has its turn, and when it was SUPERJOINT RITUAL's turn, I felt at the time that PANTERA had done its greatest tour we'd ever done, which was with SLAYER and MORBID ANGEL in the United States. We were in Ireland when the 9/11 terrorist attacks took place in New York. We were stuck there for seven or eight days and the tour was called off because of the turbulence. After that it seemed there was a great… distancing.

"I think, more or less, it lies between Dimebag and I. There was never a point when he could not get drunk. Which was pretty much every day. And now I'm hearing it's worse than ever.

"He would attack me, vocally. And just knowing that he was so much smaller than me I could kill him like a [bleep]' piece of vapor, you know, he would turn into vapour — his chin would, at least, if I [bleep]' smacked it. And he knows that. The world should know that. So physically, of course, he deserves to be beaten severely.

"But of course, that's criminal and I won't do such a thing… Really, I just let him prattle on. I grew very tired of it very quickly, and whenever it came up, like it has come up today, I just chose to wish them the best of luck. And in all honesty I really wish that they would be men, which is very hard for them, figuring that they were living in their mother's house until they're 30 years old. In comparison, I was on the street by choice at the age of 15, living anywhere I could — but living, and successfully living, through my will."

On what it was that caused his friendship with Dimebag Darrell to turn sour:

"I think that there's a lot inside of Darrell… from what I've seen of Dimebag in the past, he had some great tragedy in his family, and of course that's Vinnie's family as well. I don't think that they were ever given or ever allowed time to really heal from that. The anger and the hatred and the drunken nights of just screaming in my face, with me sitting there taking it and holding both of my hands just to not hit the guy… I grew weary of that. I was sick of being his whipping post, y'know, and I just politely, or unpolitely, excused myself.

"I think I proved clearly to everybody what I was in PANTERA! And what I was was a unique, unbelievably magnetic frontman that had not been around since the days of Robert Plant and Ozzy Osbourne. I am one in a million. . . I have staying power! I have a devoted following that would do anything for me! Anything that I say. And there's not many people that can say that, that are in my position.

"As far as their product that they put out [referring to DAMAGEPLAN — Ed.], our product that they put out, it was obvious that I was very much involved with arranging the songs, I was very much involved with the integrity of the songs. . . The integrity and the moulding of the songs, the creating, the putting together of the song. Y'know, it was my job to do the sequencing for the record, it was my job to lyrically stun the audience. And I think they failed on every account. And the world speaks for it."

"When you see a group of guys that are not hungry any more… Honestly, between me and the world now, in my heart of hearts I believe it hurt them more not to receive the money that they were going to get — that we were all going to get — for putting out that record, than me leaving the band. They always feared me. They always were different than me. They always had their circle of friends and I had my circle of friends. Their jealousy level was incredible! Y'know, anyone that was close to me outside the band would be treated like [bleep] serfs or servants by the Abbott brothers. And y'know, that never… that never… never worked very well for me."

On Dimebag's implication in interviews that Anselmo has returned to heroin:

"What a stupid man. What a shallow, stupid man. How would he know what I do? And by the way, I've been [bleep] bone-sober for three and a half years now. Anybody who has seen me on stage, anybody who has seen the shape of my body and the size of my arms, and the [bleep] burning desire in my eyes, knows that I am [bleep]'… I drink four beers and I have a buzz now. Gimme a break. I couldn't even say that in my twenties."

On the possibility of a PANTERA reunion:

"It would take a lot of soul-searching. It would take a lot of negotiation. And we'll see. In the end, it's what's most important to the fans.

"That's the last time I ever [bleep] — you can put this in your article — this is the last time I am ever talking about PANTERA

The Media can change anything. They can make the evil show in anyone. I could make the popes words look bad with enough edditing. It has been a tradgedy in the world of Hard Rock And Metal. All of you can talk shit about Eddie, but if this was him (God Bless) THe world would be just as sad as well as everyone of you on the DLR Army.

Dave Or The Grave Mother Fuckers.

RIGHT NOW : Eddie is still Drunk from the Dimebag funeral.

been to fatrocker.com...have to say that sam pays a good respect for dime

"My deepest sympathy to Vinnie, Rita and all of Dime's extended family, friends and crew. I've had the pleasure of playing onstage with Dime and Vinnie. They are true rock'n'roll spirits. Dime, you will be missed."

Still, Sammy looks like a fat babboon in that picture. Mike is coherent with himself and smiles like a fat mongoloid.

Damn, Phil's comments were totally uncalled for. I hope he really feels like shit right now.

I was under the impression Anselmo's comments came to light after Dime's murder. My bad.
