Velvet Revolver Tour

Velvet Revolver are touring Down Under in February. I love their album and I've organised tickets to see them! Who here has seen them already and what were they like? Are any other Aussies going to the shows?

I saw GNR back in the early 90s in Melbourne. Hope they play some GNR stuff too.

That's great to hear. I'd like them to play two or three GNR tunes, but if they don't that's fine by me. Their whole album rocks anyway. All I've seen of them so far is their videos, which are really cool. Obviously they've put a lot of effort into their music, videos and from what I'm hearing their live shows too.

My only complaint is the venue. The Adelaide Entertainment Centre struggles for atmosphere and security is a little over the top. But I shouldn't complain. We don't often get acts like this coming to our town.

Satriani in March. Might have to check him out too.

Yep, a good way to start the year. I saw Killing Heidi a couple of months ago and had a great time. Definately want to see more shows in 2005.

In Adelaide they are playing the Entertainment Centre, which is a modern indoor arena with a capacity of 10,000-12,000 for concerts. Most major acts that play here use this venue. VH3 played there in 1998 and I think the crowd was about 8,000.

I haven't checked out the rest of the tour yet but I'd guess all their shows will be at the major indoor city arenas. I expect they'll pull good crowds. Their album has done well in Oz and GNR's Greatest Hits just spent about six-eight months in our top 50 album chart, so there's a lot of interest.

HH, I saw Velvet Revolver in May in DETROIT. They played most of their CD, + 3 G'N'R tunes, a STP song, and a Nirvana song. Very cool.

Cool! Their album is very strong and I'm sure they want to establish their own identity, but playing a few GNR tunes would be much appreciated too. Everything I'm hearing from the States about these guys is very positive. Can't wait for the show!

I think they have also played Mr Brownstone as well. I am seein them in London at Brixton Academy, which is a big club. All there London dates are big clubs which includes 4 nights at the legendry Hammersmith Odeon which is about 5,000.

Plus the support in the UK is the mighty Datsuns, gonna be one hell of a show.

Mr Brownstone is one of my favourite GnR tracks!

I've read a couple of great features on VR in the British mag, Classic Rock. Looks like there's a lot of interest in them over there, like there is Down Under. Would love to see them at a place like the Hammersmith Odeon. I'm sure it will be a packed house and very rowdy!

IMO, Slash's playing on this album is right up there with his GnR days. Should be a great show.

They are doing 4 nights there so it should be packed! I would much rather go to Hammersmith than Brixton, but I have standing tickets and it will be a great show wherever!

I hope they play Bodies AND Negative Creep, they are fuckin brilliant covers.

With all the interest in 70s and 80s rock these days, the Datsuns retro style could really see them enjoy some significant success over the coming years. Sort of like Jet, the Donnas, the Darkness. I like what I'm hearing. It's good stuff. The Datsuns supporting VR is a great line-up.

Actually, I don't know whose gonna be on the bill with VR over here. So far no one's listed.

I think the VR videos are great. Slither has been over played tho and has got a bit annoying to be honest. I totally agree about Fall to Pieces, its a fuckin great video.

A few months ago, I read an interview with one of the Donnas in which she said David Lee Roth era Van Halen was an influence on them. In other words, they, like the rest of Halen's peers, think Van Hagar sucks. So I thought I'd give them a go!

In this never-ending era of the manufactured popstar, I'm more than happy with what the Donnas have to offer. Anyway, that 'Take it Off' song fucking rocks!

Seeing Velvet Revolver in Manchester...TONIGHT. It's going to be great to see Slash (one of my favourite people in the rock world).

The only problem is that I was a little late getting tickets (I think I only found the money about a week ago), so there were only seated tickets left (doh!), and I'm right at the very back, so It's going to look like ants moving around on stage (doh!), but there'll be great sound (woo-hoo!). And I'll have to make sure I set the video for The Simpsons.

I saw them in Glasgow on Friday night.

The place was bouncing but the sound was shitty.

Great stuff, though.

Duff must work out like fuck, the guy has the physique of an action figure.

They only played 3 GnR songs, "It`s so easy", "Mr Brownstone" and "Used to love her".

I have a feeling Weiland couldn`t do a lot of the higher pitched GnR stuff.

As for VR, they were fantastic, put on a good show. I have to say I hate Guns n Roses, I think they played Mr Brownstone (not heard it before, but picked out the lyrics) and I'm not sure about any others. Thankfully they didn't play Sweet Child of Mine, I would have gone insane But they had the energy, the sound, overall it was very nice

Personally, I thought that the Datsuns were a cheap (and shite) AC/DC rip-off. To be fair, I didn't like them to begin with. However, they were so fucking quiet-I was talking to my mate (who actually fell asleep whilst they were playing) and we didn't even have to raise our voices. If we look at it on a "room size:volume" ratio-then, I have my cd's louder than that.

Nah didn't see the guy get smacked Damnit!!! The Datsuns could have been better, I saw them in Oxford and they were so much better. They were very quiet, but they make a racket in smaller venues

I think the wait may have been done on purpose, because I have read a review of their first full-length show in Classic Rock (my personal favourite magazine), which said that there was a long wait and they were announced as the 'band that put punk into punctuality'. However, they were certainly worth the wait.
