True to an extent, but the format CAN be converted and EQ'd to open it up... and amazingly so with the right tools.

My daughter uses it a lot, and I have checked it out and picked up a few things.

The user base and depth is kinda lacking, but a good user interface and the bells and whistles tend to actually work.

I think Lou' point (Little Skittles) is that people use it to burn inferior quality CDs they then try to trade for top notch cd's and people who have quality in mind, rather than quantity, are getting screwed.

Limewire is cool for personal use, if it makes you happy.

If you are gonna trade mp3's, let people you are trading with know they are mp3s.

I'm an I.T. professional but I can't seem to make the torrents work for me. That's why I trade by mail or FTP.

What if everyone just did whatever the hell they wanted to with recordings...mp3'd over and over, burned a CD with errors and didn't care...you'd put the real copies out of circulation. Everyone deserves a chance to hear the recording in the best quality possible. Mp3 denies people that chance.

Call me elitest, but it really comes down to this--I'm getting the high quality shit, and you're not. Then I offer it for free download, and you reject it because it's "too hard." What does that make you--IGNORANT. This is why I'm considering shutting it all down because you dolts really, truly don't appreciate how difficult it is to get this stuff. I agree that the mp3 files are inferior when it comes to flac. But where I live we do not have high speed access. I tried to download a show on dial up (flac) and after 24 hours I only had 6% completed. So I have to settle for the mp3's. I do not trade mp3's though. I would like to thank all of you who make all of these great shows available. It would suck if you pulled them away. I have been wanting the latest show from Dave but haven't been able to find it in mp3. I promise not to trade it if anyone can help me out. Thanks again.......rock on.

First I said ignorant when it comes to trading, which you are.

Second it's not as simple as letting people know it's mp3. What happened is that people burned mp3's to an audio CD, no one checked and subsequent people thought what they had was legit.

This happened to me last year. Only when I told people how to check with Exact Audio Copy, then they realized that their audio CD's were mp3 sourced.

C'mon people Lou's made it possible for people to hear so much Classic Van Halen, and all people seem to do is spit in his face. I will admitt I have a few MP3 bootlegs but that's because I was never able to get hold on anything else (But I'm trying to upgrade each one as soon as possible). But Now I have a nice collection of Van Halen bootlegs ranging from all the tours and a lot of Club Days stuff. And I do have Lou to thank for most of them. So thanks again for all the boots Lou!

As for Limewire I've heard nothing but good things about, my cousin uses it and swears by the thing. Haven't tried it myself yet (I've used winMX since I got a PC) But have only really used it to get a couple of programs but I've also heard you can get a lot of rare vids from Limewire.

The reason I do not trade is that your average fan already has everything that I have. I have tried to trade in the past and every time no one was interested due to that fact. So getting mp3's is very cool as far as I'm concerned. The music does not belong to anyone at all unless they have the legal right so I'm happy with what I get. How do you know that's true? Do you have anything on tape? That right there puts you above what a lot of people have, because anything that's on tape is obviously not mp3'd.
