What are the best VH bootleg CDs?

I see plenty of them out there, but I know nothing about the quality sound or performance-wise. I already have an US festival video. Anyone able to provide some direction? Which are the must-haves? Which ones are the must-avoids (the last thing I need is some disc that sounds like it was recorded by some fan in the nosebleeds, with a recordable walkman hidden in his pocket)

also, some vids would be even better...is there anything out on DVD, or even VHS?

This should be moved to the Bootleg Forum for help on the video end of things...

1977 Magic Mountain is pretty decent.

Best sounding ones to me are off the 1984 tour, but the boots from that tour are by no means the ones with the best classic performances.

Really? Why? (I am supremely naive when it comes to bootlegs)

Magic Mountain, Stockholm.. Bright lights, big Largo is my flavor of the month.

Moving to Bootleg corner for advice from the true authorities.

Because stuff with titles is equalized and generally not a low generation source. You have to look to old-schoolers who have everything on tape to get the goods. Not only that, a lot of the titles are fucked up digitally.

Chances are, if a big deal is made of the artwork, it's a shitty copy of the show.

    Here are my faves:

    Demo's: Complete Zero
    Club's: Starwood, Hollywood 6/25/76
Pasadena Civic Center 10/15/77 Preferably the "Nightmare Before Halloween" Version.
VH1 Tour: London, Hammersmith Odeon 6/1/78. Oklahoma City 8/6/78
    VHII Tour: Fresno 3/25/79
    WACF Tour: London 6/23/80
Fair Warning: I have no good quality bootlegs from this tour. Maybe one of the Philadelphia Shows or Los Angeles 6/19/81
Diver Down: Dallas, US Fest, Sao Paulo, Caracas
    1984: Stockholm or Charlotte 2/1/84

And stick with Lou, He'll point you in the right direction. These are just a few of my personal favorites. There are many more good ones out there.

Good list sir, Hammersmith and Dallas Diver are my 2 fav Van Halen bootlegs!
Rumour has it that Van Halen have continued in recent years with a new lead signer, but since there 1985 breakup, nobody involved has ever recaptured that spontaneous cheeseburger magic!
