"That's life, that's what all the people say.
You're riding high in April,
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune,
When I'm back on top, back on top in June.
I said that's life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks,
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down,
'Cause this fine ol' world it keeps spinning around
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself, flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race.
That's life
I tell ya, I can't deny it,
I thought of quitting baby,
But my heart just ain't gonna buy it.
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try,
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself laying flat on my face,
I just pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life
That's life and I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cutting out
But my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothing shakin' come this here july
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die
My, My"

Holy SHIT! It's kareoke nite at Natras!
Now I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun
Oh I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come
Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again
Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun
Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller
Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train
Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer, it soon will be with you
Now come and join the living, it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer, soon it will all be true
Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss
Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

Ride on the peace train with me or get on the crazy train!!! There will be a destination for both and I gurantee I'll be a lot funner on the other.
It's getting WEIRD in here...
Think I'm gonna dance NOW!
You dance, fool. I'm gonna order myself a whiskey, light a Lucky Strike and put on Morrison's THE SPY on the jukebox.
"I'm the Spy,
In the house of love.
I know the dream,
that you're dreaming of.
I know the word,

I know your deepest secret fear.
I know everything."
Good to see the Peace on your side Rikk...
and your advice to senor Max was good...
sometimes friends need smacked the fuck in the face...lmfao...
as for this other fucking war...
I DON'T GIVE A FUCK...
you drama hounds that go from one war to another always blaming it on the other people (when in reality...if you'd just stop like you "say" you're going to), so would all the drama...
are written off...in my book...
The expectation is that everything needs to be dictated at this site...which is fucking rubbish. If you stop the war in your own corner...eventually...it stops on the other...that's the damn truth...
You know what I love the most...is when I would be TOLD how it happened...lmfao...like I couldn't see it...I just love that...
but I'm so sick of this fucking lecture...that I'm stopping now...
The good thing about me only being on on the weekends...is I don't have to listen to the bullshit...
and I can stop being the nice POJO...and go back to being my old crotchety self...
Yo Rikk...we're back in business bro...next week oughta be interesting though...maybe we'll be dogs...
and hmmm...dogs at home...
Max...follow your own nose...not someone else's. I don't know what's going on...but that's the way it seems from reading a couple of posts. If people aren't big enough to fight their own battles...then you don't need to associate with them.
As for the rest...
Fuck if I care......
I've got my old attitude back...thank christ...
being on here over break made me far to lenient...lmfao...fuck that...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."

Brother, I'm looking forward to it.
Glad to see you breaking out the teacher's yardstick and thinking of smacking some hands. I knew the old nun would come out of you soon enough. Mind you, don't get too mean. I was looking forward to seeing more naked SURVIVOR pics. (Can you imagine how mean a mood we would be in tonight if just one of those two field goals had scored?:p)
As for MAX, dude is my friend. Always will be. I think smacking someone in the mouth is a recommended act once in a while. I hope he sees certain things. If not, hey...you're right...some things can be seen and not everything needs to be lectured. It's just the site, and he's still my friend...even if he starts dressing like this. (Well, maybe.)
fool?
This whole lot goes from war to war. Same people different targets. Who can blame anyone for it? Some people get along, some people don't. Some try to make friends with their enemies and for others it is simply impossible to even entertain the idea that you'd ever get along.
Yeah, you can turn the other cheek but eventually, it starts up again, no matter WHO brought it on.
And on that note...time to throw in a little dity of my own...and it just happens to be my favorite Roth solo song...off my favorite Roth album...
Lights, camera, action
There's a star upon your door
Have your machine call my machine
We'll do lunch on the cutting floor
We're over budget
98 percent not there
And when the back door hits you
Where the good Lord split you
Tell us honey, who does your hair?
How does he do it?
Why's he do it?
Yes, it's true
The flavor of the month is you
And it's practice, practice, practice
Just to get to Carnegie
We'll need 10 percent,
and that's off the top
Gross, not net to me
Get it on,
Honey 'cause It's Showtime!
Just play the song,
Baby 'cause It's Showtime!
Produce me daddy,
Takin' 8 to the bar
Big, bigger, biggest
With the right lighting you'll go far
Here today, gone late today
And it's club dates in the sticks
And you're beautiful babe, don't never shave
No prob, we'll fix it in the mix
Just leave your name and number in
the dumpster when you're through,
Oh yeah
Don't call us, we'll call you
Oscar, Grammy, triple whammy
Cut, and that's the take
Quit complainin', where's my agent?
Don't you know how much I make?
Get it on,
Baby 'cause It's Showtime!
Just play the song,
Baby 'cause It's Showtime!
Leave your name and number
in the dumpster when you're thru,
Oh yeah
Don't call us, we'll call you
And it's play it like they paid ya
And your photo goes on the car wash wall
But somehow it's all worth it
When you hear that curtain call
It's Showtime!
Oh, Baby 'cause It's Showtime!
Oh yeah, just play the song,
Baby 'cause It's Showtime!
Oh yeah, let's get it on,
'Cause It's Showtime!
Oh yeah, people,
'Cause It's Showtime!
Hit it!
Great tune...by what would have been the greatest tandem in the 90's...Becker and Roth...
unfortunately...our next guitar virtuoso had his career cut a bit short for now (you never know what the future holds)....
There isn't a song that Roth sings solo that sounds more like a VH song than this one...
Hmmmm................
I have my old attitude back as well.
Knock me down!!!
Horseshit fab...
I've been on these sites since 1996...and I've rubbed everyone the wrong way at one point or another...and I've been banned from sites before most of the posters here even knew they existed...
somehow...I've managed to regain all that back...without
and I'm not in any wars...hmmm...go figure...
and I think everyone's full of shit...
and yet I manage to stay out of it...and not goto war...Wow...and I don't even need a freakin' "how to" book...
Make all the it always starts up again bullshit that you want to...but when it's all said and done...if it does...it's because you are fanning the flames...
...and you know what...I know you don't agree with that...and at this point...don't care...
obviously your way doesn't work...and you plain ass refuse to play it my way.
So I'm just washing my hands of it...
hmmm...I wonder how that is?
Bert fucking Jones?
holy christ...
Agreed. That said, it's one of only a handful I love on that album. The solo and riff on IT'S SHOWTIME come straight from the first VH album. Intense, incredible.Originally posted by POJO_Risin

As for Becker, you can truly feel Roth's sorrow when he writes about Becker in his autobiography. I liked this kid's playing more than Vai's, because it was a little less technical wizardry...brilliantly played, but one foot firmly in the rock 'n' roll ground. The next album could have been IT. Of course, I still believe Roth would have felt like making a mature album regardless, and may not have utilized Becker even if the disease hadn't hit.
Christ...the next thing I'm going to see is Neil fucking Lomax...
or Steve fucking Grogan...

Realize this though Rikk...and I firmly believe it...
if Becker stuck around...and continued writing the music...
who knows what would have happened next...who knows...
Becker was right out of Eddie's book...a free flower...
certainly not covered in the technical aspects (even though he knows that part of it as well)...
but he could bring it...speed...power...
what I like about that album...and I like the entire album...front to back...is that Becker goes across the board...blues...rock...it's all there...and he does it with a flick of the pick...so to say...
I agree. It loses some of the pretensions of the first two albums. That said, I just think Dave didn't let him write enough. There are great moments on that album. Incredible ones. But he should have let the band run it a bit more that time. Funny how much I've grown to love SKYSCRAPER the past few years. But I'll always know that it is also a Dave-show...not a band album at all. If A LIL AIN'T ENOUGH were too, Becker would have shined. Dave should've given the kid a whole album's worth of great, raw guitar compositions and just thrown his vocal on it. Becker could have been a worthy replacement for Eddie if the format (guitarist writes most of the music, singer comes up with the groove, arrangements and vocals) stayed the same.Originally posted by POJO_Risin

I don't think YOUR FILTHY LITTLE MOUTH was a bad album. I just think it also had moments and had losses. I really like the blues swagger of SHE'S MY MACHINE...but it also makes me miss Becker.
Heh! Heh!
*cough* *cough*
Where'd ya get this shit?
Ohhhhhhhhh.................
It's easy to pick EEAS...or the DLR Band album (it seems to be everyone's choice who doesn't want to pick the obvious)...
I've always liked ALAE...for a couple of reasons...
I'm a HUGE solo Vai fan...his playing ooozes it's owness...
but I hated him with Roth except for a couple of obscure songs...not obscure...but not most people's favorites...like Goin' Crazy...Shyboy (not even a Roth tune)...those kinds of songs...
I liked DLR Band...thought he recaptured a lot...but...it felt...I don't know...like it needed a couple of more months to fester...it was like eating the Turkey a half hour before it's finished...still good...damn good...but...also...a bit tough...
Becker's style fit Roth...mainly because I get the impression he fucking listened to him while he was writing...unlike Vai...who you know did his own damn thing...and crammed it in there...(not quite like that...but you get my drift)...
Becker could play in whatever style Roth was groovin' to that day...
Shit...I gotta listen to that one a little closer. I guess the songs just don't jump at me as much on it. The production bothers me a bit. But now I really gotta relisten to it.Originally posted by POJO_Risin

It's funny, but I actually prefer SKYSCRAPER to EAT 'EM AND SMILE now. I certainly didn't before. But man, listening to DAMN GOOD, KNUCKLEBONES, HOT DOG AND A SHAKE...even JUST LIKE PARADISE...fantastic stuff that sounds more like creative writing and real collaboration instead of the rather forced sound I get on some of EEAS. That said, SHYBOY rocks harder than anything VAN HAGAR could have even comprehended.
As for DLR BAND, I agree that it's rather rough. I also think SLAM DUNK is kinda contrived. But I also like the fact that it's musicians just sitting around making a garage indie record. It's not like the punk I love so much. But it's raw. LITTLE TEXAS will always be my favorite Roth solo song and among my favorite tunes he ever sang. It is possibly the most swagger-inflected, raw, heavy thing he ever put down on oxide. And KING OF THE HILL is like getting kicked by Gert Frobe. Holy shit, fatboy...where did you come up with that chorus??
