    Kirk Hammet

Anyone else think he's extremely overrated? I mean he is a good guitar player, but I really cannot think of a more overrated player. GuitarWorld routinely puts him way up there on their "all time greats" lists. They even inducted him to their little "hall of fame" before they inducted EVH. Every Megadeth lead guitarist has been better than him IMO, but they rarely get the credit he does. Kirk Hammet vs Marty Friedman? Give me a break! Am I alone here?

He´s not a great guitar player. He sucks. And he´s gay!

I´ll play anything he does with one hand tied to my back!

That's what I mean. He has no right hand and he hides it with tons of distortion and wah. He does these random chromatic runs up the neck and rapes his wah pedal to make it sound decent.

He's done some good stuff too. He wrote the Sandman riff, which is one of the most classic heavy riffs ever, and his solo in Dyer's Eve on AJFA is very well done IMO, but nonetheless, he gets WAY too much critical acclaim

Kirk Hammet is a great lead player, especially on Master of Puppets, but he can't match players like EVH and Steve Vai.

I remember reading somewhere that he practiced scales three hours per day and you know what, it shows in his solos. They all sound like scale excercises.

I wish Rik Emmett would've kicked his overrated ass in a guitar duel when both Triumph and Metallica were big in the mid to late eighties.

I like his playing...he's not one of my overall favorite guitarists, and definitely not one of the top 10 ever, but his style is decent and he's worth his chops, for what he does. Of course, Metallica's sucked since, oh, 1988 or thereabouts, but there have been occasions when I've been interested in what he was doing (I WILL admit that I was interested by the different things he was doing on "Load", but that does NOT mean that I thought "Load" was worth a shit)...a lot of that I blame on Metallica/Bob Rock, though.

    Fill me in, then!

    Was it all James??

I didn't know anything about that. I knew Bob Rock played all the bass, but that was it.

Sit down for this one BOB......THERE ARE NO GUITAR SOLOS ON ST. ANUS. None. Zip. Zero.
It might as well be a James & Lars record.
PATHETIC. The worst thing these guys have ever done. And, that's saying alot cuz Load & Reload are crap.
Glad I saw 'em in 88 and 91 when they still CRUSHED.

Ahhh...I actually own St. Anger (got a copy for free), but short of the first two tracks, I haven't ever listened to it (which should tell you a lot about my feelings for it...I thought it was at least a positive that they were playing FAST again, but the production, lyrics, the obvious Protools disaster they had at the studio and everything else just ruined any potential it might have had).

    Amazing! No solos at all...unreal.

Cliff's passing hurt that band in ways that are too numerous to be listed...and Jason finally wising up and getting his ass out was the real death-toll for Metallica.

Save METALLICA From Bob Rock - Petition Posted Online [Hot Flashes - 05.01.18 17:39:18]

A petition asking METALLICA to end their working relationship with producer Bob Rock has been posted at this location.

Excerpts include, "We feel that his (Rock's) contributions to help craft a Metallica song are quite wrong and have been getting worse as time goes on." Furthermore, the petition calls St. Anger "completely unlistenable" and urges the band to "enter into a new phase" (without Bob Rock).

Rock has been Metallica's producer of choice since The Black Album in 1991. Currently, the petition boasts 681 total signatures.

I've listened to mine ONCE. And , only ONCE.

Yup, saw JASON on the road with Gov't Mule, and he seemed happy. Fuck, he got the LOUDEST ovation of the night, and the crowd was a hippy-jam band crowd.

I almost puked when Het said he "could almost see Cliff onstage" when they were playin' with that fuck orchestra.

"WE AIN'T TRYIN' TO BE 'NUTHIN' FANCY!" CLIFF BURTON, CLIFF 'EM ALL!!!

Metallica just changed entirely too much post Cliff...wasn't even really the same band afterwards. No disrespect to Jason, cuz he's been one of my favorite bassists since the Flotsam and Jetsam days, but the production for Justice was shit...I was expecting a REAL good Metallica record with the black album...but the black album just ended up being the first diversion of many more to come.

They were a great band, though, for their first three albums. Always have a copy of them around, just for emergencies.

I've come to the conclusion that METALLICA was Cliff's band. When he went, they lost the plan.

And I have to say, I think MASTER OF PUPPETS is the single greatest recording in history. Front to back, stellar cd.

Every single song on Master of Puppets is perfect.

How do you think Metallica would of done if they didn't sack Mustaine?

Is that rhetorical-or do you REALLY want to hear our opinions?-because that question is unanswerable.

And, as for St. Anger-I think the album sucks-the main 2 reasons would be that I don't think Kirk even bothered to show up for recording, and also Lars' snare sounds like Steel drums-which isn't very rock'n'roll. If they sorted them 2 things out-it wouldn't be THAT bad an album. Still dissappointing-but, still listenable.
