Anybody got a good quality/high res video copy of the full VH US Festival 83 gig?
Thanks
I saw both of the DVDs being torrented at Jamtothis.com. There are two different torrents, one for each of the discs. Both are listed under the Video Bit Torrent Bootlegs. I'd offer to copy them for you, but my connection is too damned slow for DVD torrents. Or I am too impatient!
Good luck.
fletch created the best version aka "20 anniversary edition" but it's still not clear.
I remember he said he got the 1st gen copy of that show, but I'm sure the DVD is not from that.
Don't notice most of my posts are less than 2 lines...

I have not seen it. Is it as good as many Rothers say?
just captured a couple of pics from the DVD...
looks bad eh?
Yelp see the quality problem, but I can cleanup/rework about any video, if they put on a good show. EXCEPT, severe camera shakes from drunks that don't know how to use a good video camera, which is the problem I am having with the DLR 04 New Years show in Orlando.
As to the other post re the FLAC: Never use that before, but will look into more since it is "in presently".
I really don't understand the FLAC deal. The damn file sizes are monster, like 3.4 - 4 GB for 1 of 2 parts of the U.S. Festival, and it is not like the video is a master or anything, just some shitty 2 -3 generation copy.
It was like the FLAC file sizes for the 04 Van Spammy Tour audios.
( I want to see if EVH was as bad as everyone was saying.) (Also, yes I went to a Van SpamBoy 04 gig to see EVH play. I got very lucky and the bum had one of his better nights of the whole tour.)
Anyway, the file sizes were huge, yet were still only a copy of a 128 Kbps audio, most B quality, done by drunk amateurs. So what are these huge file sizes really accomplishing, when they are not taken from masters, or direct off the soundboard at the gigs?
Also, I'm on a 8, 500 - 9,000 Kbps-DL fiber optics line so download speed is noooo problem. (By way of comparison my partners DSL internet is 850 Kpbs-DL) But shite, a lot of the MoFo's that are seeding FLAC downloads are like at dload speeds of 20-40 Kbps. Give me a break. Hell I would rather pay them to snail mail me the disks instead of tie up one of my computer for days on end.
Maybe I am missing something, because I need to study it more.

See I told you guys, that Hagar didn't invent the fat slob look on stage, like he said he did. U2's Bono invented it in 83 at the US Festival.
Ok, Ok, Ok,.....Look, I just shite in my pants, like you people had to because there is not enough Port-O-Johns. It wasn't so bad, now go buy some more over priced food and bevs crew. I'm losing my ass putting this gig on for you ingrates, just to prove I'm better than that fuck-head Bill Gates.

Ok thanks. Then the video I have blows that Ebay vid away. I'm really impressed how good of quality it is.
You know how you listen to a new CD and you like it, but then the next day you listen to it and hell you love it. Well that is how the second viewing of part of the 2 hour VH US Festival ‘83 video hit me.
Man, this is a great kick ass 2 hour show and video, even with Dave plastered and VH sucks on the singing. Particularly once Van Roth gets 20 – 30 minutes into the set and wears off the obvious heavy booze and drugs before the show, and start playing much better together. Also have to remember at this point, it is almost 1:00 a.m. in the morning, and VH have over a hour left in the set.
I don’t know what I was thinking yesterday on the reworked file size on this vid. Exhausted from work, anyway, the file size is not 894MB / *.wmv / 2100 Kbps / 2 hours / A/A+., but 1.56GB @ 2100Kbps. I screwed up the calibration calculation, and I haven’t added back in the audio track, which I will remix in Dolby surround sound in the next week or so when I get some time.
I think I can push this video back down on res and file size, without loss of quality. There is always a breakeven point, where increasing resolution gains very little in quality, but significantly increases file size.
Here’s a few quick screen shots off the raw 700Kbps vid I received yesterday. The video is not near as fuzzy as these screen shots. I don’t do anything fancy on screen shots, just PrtScrn into a image manager app.
Seems like they always come out more fuzzy off a video, even turning off the video accelerator on my hog graphics card. Of course they are jpg’s, which really decreases the image quality.

like I give a flying fuck what you think. FYI asshole, I got a copy of the US Fest DVDs in today, and the vid I got in last Saturday is 50-60% clearer/high quality, than the Ebay DVDs, and that is before I digitally reworked/reprocessed it and set it at a cut 2.1Mbps res, off a 8.9 Mbps master.

If you could fucking read twonacunt you would know that the source of the vid I got Saturday was from tape.
Yeah, I'm sure it would be a very rare/valuable EVH collectors items. Probably be shocked what that 1/2 guitar is worth on the open market.Originally posted by Big Troubles

have largo 82 and the us fest on dvd...ill be glad to copy to vhs if interested...what u got for trade? im always lookin for vinyl...let me know
it is fun to see this stuff. I will scan some of my photos and upload them. it was a fun day - baking in the sun. Bloom COunty had a great cartoon series where they put on their own US Fest and DLR picked up otis and was saying "Lets get rowdy!" and than the next frame was like "Um excuse me Mr Van Halen Singer...Oh look, now they're burning the Porta Potties!" LOL!!! I will dig that out and scan it as well.
As for the show it is still one fo the best Van halen shows I have ever seen/been too. THe band was in great form, and yes Roth was drunk off his ass but yo uknow with arounf 300,000 people there at the start many people had never seen them. So as soon as they cam eout and ROth used one of his oft repeated one liners - "oh man I forgot the ****ing words!" a lot of people got turned off...there was a steady stream of people leaving.
No one got rowdy enough, Roth never incited a riot. I was there and I survived it and didn't see one fight all day. Joe Walsh was supposed to play but wisely they moved him and replaced him with Quiet Riot - which helped establish them in the US.
As for the video - I am still waiting forsomeone to put otu the "full" 2 1/2 hour show and not the one with the edited on ending.
I dug out my photos and scaned a few here is one (Followed by 2 more) of my US Fest photos
And another
and another. Enjoy.
Why do you have such a chip on your shoulder? He's right: the jpegs you posted look the same in terms of quality. Friggin relax, man.Originally posted by tomballin
