    I agree with the gloves...100%...

    we'll see Sunday...damn I can't wait...should be a great game...hope it lives up to the bill...

Cowher can answer a slew of questions if they come out and win again...
"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."

``I'm going to try to go without it,'' said Roethlisberger, who wore a glove on his left hand but not his throwing hand in practice Wednesday. ``If it's wet, it makes it worse (to throw). We'll see if we can go without this week.''

The football becomes harder and slicker in the cold, one reason quarterback Ben Roethlisberger wears gloves to throw it.

from Cowher in an article in the Post Gazette...The kid's gloves

Cowher said quarterback Ben Roethlisberger wearing gloves does not concern him. He just wants Roethlisberger to throw the ball where it's supposed to go.

"He has to assess that. I'm not going to sit there and tell him what to do in regards to that, just throw the ball to the receiver, with or without a glove. I don't want to get into all the idiosyncrasies.

"I know everyone is worried about his thumb. I didn't know anything about his thumb. He just said that [the glove] wasn't fitting right. I don't ask those things. If the guy's open, just throw it to him, and whatever that entails you wear.

He announced today that he's NOT wearing the gloves....

What's cracking me up is the sentiment that the 1st game is totally meaningless now, or I now hear, "It's playoff time now"....

    OK, let's explore that....

First and foremost, if the Pats don't slow down the Steelers' running game, they are going to be hard pressed to win, unless they get some unorthodox TD's like the Jets did.... The Steelers ran the ball for 221 yards, and had the ball 42 minutes of the game, which was the longest discrepancy for time of possession all year in the NFL....

Secondly, the "Dillon factor" is, IMO, being too overly-emphasized.... To refresh some memories, the Steelers have faced some damn good RB's this year, like Lewis, Portis, Taylor, Martin, Barber, and McGahee, none of them even sniffed 100 yards.... I believe Rudi Johnson was the only back to run for 100 yds. this year against the Steelers.... Dillon has ran for 100 yards twice in 14 meetings vs. the Steelers, including zero times since 2000.... So yes, they definitely have to account for him, that's for sure, but it's not going to be like he's going to be running up and down the field on them, because that just ain't gonna happen....

I could go on with a few more items, but I'll save them.....

Roeth will be a very good QB in this league. It's not his time yet. Cowher will lose his 4th AFC Championship game at home. Looking at it with an objective eye, I just can't see the Stillers winning this game, basically because Bill Cowher has not shown in 13 years that he's a big game coach.

Trust me Stiller fans, I HOPE your team wins. I think the Eagles would beat them. I don't think the Eagles have a prayer against the Pats.

Don't worry Filly fan...your little ladies might not have a prayer against Atlanta...and sure as fuck don't have a chance against ANY AFC team...

    Why?

of the four coaches...Reid's the worst...plain and simple...

unless he was injured the past three years as well...

Reid's worse than Jim Mora Jr. who has how many years of NFL coaching experience and has accomplished what? Do you know how fucking stupid that sounds?

And also, you know as well as I that Philly is detached from the rest of the state. That's like saying people from NYC consider themselves residents of New York State before anything else.

Oh Loo...I listen to you daily...so I have an idea of how stupid it sounds.

It's just fun pushin' the buttons...

Don't worry Loo...I'm rooting for Filly, because Pittsburgh will have a better shot at beating the little ladies...

than the well coached juggernaut known as Atlanta...

christ...what a joke the NFC truly is this year...

I would rather play Philly in the SB as well...Vick is too much of a wild card...

Oh no, I've learned my lesson when it comes to AFC Championships....

Too many baaaaaad memories.... Almost broke my TV in '94 in Italy...

And honestly, I don't even think I'm talking shit in this thread at all....

I'm just pointing out the different aspects of this game that all of the "experts" are saying....

So, no score prediction from me this time....

    The Steelers will win if:

    1. They run the ball well, just like they did the 1st time with 221 yds.

    2. They play "decent" defense (I'd say, no more than 2 TD's)... Let's remember, the 2nd of their 2 TD's the 1st time was during junk time when the game was out of reach....

    3. No unorthodox TD's (special teams, INT TD's, etc.)...

The more I look at it, special teams, and more imporantly, field position may be the key to the game.... Even if you don't score on a particular drive, 1 or 2 1st downs I think will be huge, meaning that pins them down deep in their own territory, and makes it that much harder for them to score....

Are you talking the Steelers?...or OSU football...

I had it down to special teams...but I agree...field possession will be huge in this game...especially if the conditions are what the predictors are saying...

No. I didn't know there would be that much snow projected for only three hours south of where I live. I was thinking only a couple of inches during game time.

    Va...relax...here's the thing...

Belicheck will have his boys ready...

so will Cowher...who's in the same league...

So it comes down to a couple of things...

The Steelers Defense is fast...hits hard...and good...more talented than New Englands...maybe slightly...but better players on the ball. LeBeau's blitz packages WILL work to an extent. The New England lineman will have to pause...if for a moment...to see what hole is going to get filled by a blitz...just a second...but enough to make a difference...you can't plan for the blitz schemes...especially when you have Farrior and Polamalu leading that D...

    OK...

The Steelers line really is the best in the league...bar none...and Belicheck may plan all week with his way to stop the run...8 in the box...whatever...but they can't stop that line...period...

Pittsburgh is methodical...will keep it close in the first by blowing them off the ball on both sides...and then wear them down in the second half...

and if they drop 8 in the box...we're going to find out how valuable Plax is...because they just don't have anyone who can cover him if they aren't playing zone...

All due respect to the Steelers...they are for real...BUT

Gotta disagree on some things Pojo (at least Pojo is giving something to work with here...VA Beach sounds like he's huddled in a corner in the fetal position waiting to be punished)

'more talented defense than New England's'. Tell Peyton that NE doesnt have the best D in the league. Bet he disagrees with you.

I agree that the blitzes will probably give Brady some trouble as in the first game, but you KNOW that they are working on this AS WE SPEAK . They will plug the holes better (watch the dink and dunk guys!)

Plax was whining in the press before the first game about the chuck rule...its payback time for the Pats DB's. This time Marvin Harrison is gonna hold up Plax so Teddy Bruschi can spear him in the back! (didnt Colts fans bitch like little bitches after that hit...)

Seriously...may the best team win. And then pimp-slap the Fillies in the SB...

I think a couple of things...don't misconstrue my talent comment...I think the Steelers are more talented in player ability...I think New England are a more veteran unit that plays within their system better than anyone. Both units hit...both units are damn good...cream of the crop.

In all due respect to Manning...he didn't play against Pittsburgh...so we'll never know what he thinks about Pittsburgh's D. The question becomes: 1. Can Pittsburgh's offense run the ball on NE and control the clock (yes--if they aren't down) 2. Can Pittsburgh find a way to keep New England out of the box (yes--and the best thing I can say to that is let them concentrate on Plax...while Hines and Randal El and Lee Mays finds openings)...what I like about the Steelers' offense is this. If New England does put 8 in the box...and focuses on Plax who roasted them in game one with a double...leaving Hines in single coverage...New England could be in trouble...of course...the game will rest on Big Ben's shoulders at that point. If the complete a couple of passes in the early stages of the game...and get that front 7/8 to sag...that's when the trouble for NE's D will start...

The great part about Pittsburgh's blitz scheme is if it's running on all cylinders...you can't defend it because you don't know where it's coming from. They had Pennington running all over the freakin' place last Sunday...and every qb they've faced this year. IF NE can stop it...1. I'll be the first to commend them on a job well done. IF they can't...and Brady is forced into similar mistakes ala Halloween...it's going to be a long day for NE...

The only wild card in this game IMO...well...there are 2...and 2 big ones.

    1. Will Belicheck cook up a scheme that can stop the Blitzes (perhaps a no huddle that doesn't allow Pitts to line up what they want)

    2. Can Ben withhold the pressure...

on paper...Pittsburgh wins the game...but as you point out so well Dave...games aren't won on paper...

Cowher has been known as not winning Big Games...until he proves it...I have to agree....

coaches like Cowher and Reid are good...but won't be great until they put in a game plan that wins a big one. He takes that step on Sunday...or goes back to the heap as a regular season coach.

Belicheck has proved his greatness in the big games....and he can only add to that on Sunday.

I think Pittsburgh makes a statement this week...in a close one.

meaning...I think the two wildcards will fall in the Steelers favor. What I like is the weather. NE can win in conditions like that...no doubt about it...but...if Pittsburgh is allowed to concentrate on the run soley...than the Wildcards I mentioned above aren't as big a deal...

And NE's wildcard? Pittsburgh posting on their board all week long...16-1, at home, beaten NE once...AND STILL THE UNDERDOG.

If that doesn't get you fired up enough to win a game...nothing will...

Pittsburgh continues to pay for that game last week against the Jets...

but let me remind you of this point. You take out 20 seconds of that game...a special teams blunder which they won't repeat this week...and an 86 yard INT return for a TD...which I believe they'll keep Ben out of...

and the D only gives up 3 points. Granted there were 2 missed field goals...but remember...the longest in Heinz field all time is 48...

Brien clanked a 47 yarder...and hooked the hell out of a 42...which he should of made...

so in a best of scenario...they give up 9 points on D...an impressive effort no matter which way you look at from a defensive standpoint. I'm not saying you overlook the offense and special team miscues...but what I am saying is that the Steeler D was as good as it ever was...

By the way, another mega-emphasized point is that Tom Brady is 7-0 in the playoffs....

However comma, all seven of those were at home.....

He's never played a complete away game....

He started the 2001 game vs. the Steelers before hurting his ankle, when he was losing the game BTW....

7-0 is pretty bad ass though...that you have to admit...

but all home games is certainly a PART of why he's 7-0...

That 7-0 is getting it done during the regular season, and winning home field.

    Good points all over.

Not sure about Cowher being in the same league ... he is a good motivator, no question. Maybe I'm missing the point though, I've had beer.

No...I don't think Cowher can be mentioned in the same league...because he HASN'T won the big game...

but he is probably the best motivator in the league...and he ALWAYS lines up INCREDIBLE coaches around him...

Pittsburgh is always ravaged of their coordinators for head coaches...

most never pan out as great ones...but...what are they missing?

    The motivator...

They do lose some assistants ... and then some like LeBeau come back, which was a damn good move.

The interesting thing about the linebackers and the assistants is how they generally aren't the same outside of that system...

Chad Brown is the classic example...he gave up being one of the greats to sign for the money in Seattle...

and Pittsburgh just keeps developing them...every year...it's amazing really...

BTW, what a shock, Merrill Hoge picked the Falcons and the Stillers. Frankly that's a GOOD thing if you're an Eagle fan/Stiller hater like myself given his record this year.

If the Stillers lose, watch him still pick them to win the SB because that's how much of a dope he is. When the Eagles were 7-0, he STILL was saying the Redskins would win the NFC East. Someone like that has no credibility.
