Mike is a kick ass bass player. Plus a great singer(some say better than Dave). Mike should try a solo album!!

No i don't think so, he is a great bass player and an ok singer but not better than DLR. I just don't think that album would do well plus who would play the other instruments some shitty band that doesn't know a guitar chord from an extension chord.
He thought about it back in 1991, but then realized that nobody was fucking interested.Originally posted by The Godfather

Twistin' by the pool.
Mike does have talent, i think he is very under rated
IT'll probably be like Disney Mickey Mouse music. According to Eddie, Eddie listens to classical, Dave listens to Sinatraish stuff, Alex listens to rockish stuff, and Mikey listens to Mickey Mouse stuff.
Just the fact Mikey is in VH doesn't make him a great bass player. He's awesome on bg vox, but on lead he sounds ordinary and plain. Listen to SGMAD from 2004 or 1998 tours - nothing Dave-like.
He's the most down-to-Earth guy from any Van Halen's line-up and the most fan-friendly as well, but I doubt he'd be capable of writing stuff enough for a full album. Would I buy it if it would come out? Not a question - yes.

Mikey is a mediocre rock bassist, that's all! On my boots, I always wonder if I should delete the "Bass Solos" or not, but I usually keep them.
His voice is good and he is an excellent background vocalist for the Van Halen sound. However, he seems to have kind of a falsetto sounding voice. A voice that doesn't lend itself well as the featured voice on a rock and roll track.
I enjoy bashing Mike as much as anyone, but I think he is actually a much more integral part of CVH that is generally acknowledged.
Besides, he's too busy making new hot sauces to assist in bowel evacuation:
Mad' Anthony's New Sauces
It's only $9 a bottle-LOL.

i wouldent say mike was that good. hes ok but his solos are painfull.
^^ Let's just say, if bros got rid of Mikey when Dave left the band, I'd be the in the front line bashing Van Hagar .
It's not Van Halen without Mike
45 minutes of Mikey hammering on the E string!!
Sure! He's no virtuoso bassist, though he's an unquestionable part of VH.Originally posted by Nickdfresh

I hardly bear his really too shrill screams on the bootlegs, but I can't edit them unfortunately. Just the only little detail that doesn't suit me on the Pasadena Civic Auditorium Dec. 77 (?) live boot, the first one I got in 1995.
Mike Anthony was the right bass player, anyway. VH music needed square bass lines, unless it would have sounded messy.
And he was full of thrust, right in his place in the great days party-like stage scenery.

Well, if he did you can bet your bottom dollar Spammy would be on it.
Absolutely not, and for one reason only.
Because we all know he'd have a special guest appearance by Sammy.
Back when they were the emperors:
His name doesn't surface as a top notch bassist for a reason. He isn't one!
As for his singing...if all you're doing is thumping an open E string then you better be able to sing. All he's capable of singing is, "Oooooh's" and "Aaaaaahhh's" and the occasional follow up last 3 words out of a singers mouth and THAT'S it!
He fits Van Halen because of EdWad's enormous ego. Ed wrote most of the bass lines to begin with to showcase his talents. They went with a mediocore bassist that wouldn't make waves.
As for his bass solos...a fucking monkey could play a better solo. He uses his foot and jumps up and down on the bass while the distortion carries the notes...that's some real chord noodling there...NOT!
He's a TOOL that's finally come to grips with the level of "talent" he has. Notice he's making "hot sauces"? That should tell anyone that believes he's a serious muscian where he stands right there!
Mike doesnt give a fuck about CVH.
I dont give a fuck about his solo aspirations.

Um actually, Mike is a great bassist my point of view. I would love to find a bassist like that.
Finding a bassist and drummer that can keep tight and keep the beat without fucking OVERPLAYING like a Van Hagar fan looking at gay porno is one of the hardest things to do.
The great thing about early VH is that the drums and bass don't interfere with the 2 highlights of the band, Dave's uhhh whatever you call it, it sure is great thing, and Eddie's playing.
Therefore, when Sammy came in, they came out really fucking lame sounding, because if you have 2 highly entertaining guys going at it, and one leaves, that only leaves half the entertainment. (Meaning Sam was nothing of value to the band) However, we know that half the entertainment is really NO entertainment. Sorta like how 2 shots of Whiskey might give you a buzz, but 1 shot does absolutely nothing.
Mike is a talented musician, but lets be real. He has absolutley zero front man qualities. Why do you think he gets along with Hagar so well. A solo project would be a complete waste of his and the world's time.

He's not talented...he's LUCKY! That's it. Buy Tabasco. Fuck Mike.
Um no, 'Madd' Anthony is a competent bassist at best. As Johnny Rotten once said about Sid Vicious, he's a "coat hanger" with a Jack Daniels bass strapped to him and a XXXL t-shirt to cover his man breasts.Originally posted by Knucklebones

Hell, just today I heard an MP3 of that interview Eddie did with those tool, ass-kissing DJ's. And he back-handedly slams Mikey by saying fat Wolfie can play bass better than anyone he's heard.
i would hardly say mike is a vital part of van halen. let us not forget
david lee roth is van halen!
Mike is replacable, so is Al. Dave is irreplacable! That, we all have seen!
you guys don't get it!! mike gives a lot to the signature vh sound...the bass and those great backing vocals!!

It's not the fact that he can play that's important. Can you really imagine VH with any OTHER bassist?
Also, let's think about it for awhile....
Let's say Eddie is playing a song, all of a sudden, some blistering bass solo pops up.
It's just gonna sound like ass.
Mikey and Alex are important in VH BECAUSE they don't stand out. Having them stand out would have just interfered with the stuff we get from Dave and Eddie.
If there is a CVH reunion, however unlikely the prospect, then yes I would prefer to have the whole fuckin' kit and caboodle (as in all the original members). But if you try telling me Mikey is a great artist unto himself or any kind of a bass virtuoso or a "great" lead singer, you are crazy from the heat.
I wait for a mike anthony solo album as much as I wait for a herpes infection...if he does one he should name it "the bass player...nothing but YES"

The only way that sucker would get any distribution is to give it away with his hot sauce!
mickey Go fuck yourself!
If Mike was up to it he probably would have done it by now.
And his preference for all things Sammy Hagar is a pretty good indicator for what kind of songwriter he'd be. No thanks!
You guys don't get my point. Mike is not a great bassist in TECHNICAL terms. However, in terms BAND WISE, he is great.
By not being a guy who suddenly bursts into some slap bass solo, he makes the sound a lot fuller, without ruining it.
I would love to find someone like Mike as a bassist in fact.
Who wrote the Push comes to Shove bassline??? Cause that was bad ass and I don't think anthony is capable of writing something that cool.
The cool thing about mike was he kept his kept his dumb ideas to himself and did what he was told and was Dave's "Personal Jack Daniels Fetcher".
"It's just not an option for me to go and watch some other band — who are only performing because they have some new record coming out — do our music," Roth said. "I have nothing against Velvet Revolver — I'm not familiar with their music — but that was my 3 minutes and 22 seconds up there."

#2 - A better bassist would propel Eddie to actually play BETTER!
#3 - As opposed to Mike's playing now?
#4 - I'm ready for some progression to the tired ass sound that they want to ramrod on listeners. Better musicians are a logical first step. Look at bands like Rush and then comment about being "interfered with"!
I'd love to see Van Halen reforemed with Billy Sheehan on bass and Jason Bonham on drums.
Prior to this latest Van Hagar retread... Mike was supposedly getting plans together to record an album with Gary Hoey. Mike was seen hanging w/ Hoey at NAMM last year. I was hoping this would materialize... Hoey is a great guitarist and based on his past work I think Mike could have brought more to the table than what Ed writes for him in VH. There's a lot more to Mike than what he's been handed in VH. Just needs to find the right place to let it out.
"If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”
Thats the deal right there! I could care less what he does outside of VH, go play the citar for christ sakes! But, If the boys ever reunite...as MM said prior...It aint VH without Mike Anthony!Originally posted by The Godfather

Mikey gone solo... hmmm, I don't know about that. He's probably better than people let on, but I doubt I'd care, really. Mikey should go on tour with DAVE, then we'd see the VH's REALLY overheat!!
If you listen to fools
The Mob Rules
I wonder how small a man's balls can be to eat that much shit from the sisters...the bass player loves to play and to jam (even with the atomic punks) and sits at home and waits for the sisters to call him and talk about him like a piece of shit in interviews...
if he'd have any courage he'd join the fucking wabo rats or -ritas and become a regular member of spam's show...
