    Lewis to mis Super Bowl!

Eagles TE Lewis to miss Super Bowl

    Associated Press

    1/24/2005

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia Eagles tight end Chad Lewis will miss the Super Bowl with a foot injury.

Lewis, who caught two touchdown passes in Philadelphia's 27-10 victory over Atlanta in the NFC championship game Sunday, will have surgery on Wednesday. He was hurt on his second TD grab, a two-yard catch that sealed the win.

Meanwhile, All-Pro wide receiver Terrell Owens' status is uncertain. Owens has been sidelined with an ankle injury since Dec. 19. Eagles coach Andy Reid said Owens has made ``great progress,'' and will try to run on the ankle this week.

Lewis' injury, called a Lis Franc sprain, is more common in automobile accidents and equestrian sports.

Eagles All-Pro safety Brian Dawkins missed nine games last season with a similar injury that wasn't as severe and didn't require surgery. In 2000, Eagles running back Duce Staley had surgery and missed the final 13 games, including playoffs, with an injury to the same joint.

Second-year pro L.J. Smith will take Lewis' spot in the starting lineup against New England in the Super Bowl on Feb. 6. Mike Bartrum, also the long snapper, is the only other tight end on the roster. Eagles coach Andy Reid said the team will try to add another tight end this week. Lewis backed up Bartrum as the long snapper.

Lewis, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, had 29 catches for 267 yards and three TDs in the regular season. His role had been reduced with the emergence of Smith, a second-round draft pick from Rutgers in 2003.

Man that really does hurt. Sucks that they just continue to lose players.

I had $50.00 on the Eagles Yesterday, but looks like I'll

have to take the Pats in the Super Bowl.

If T.O. can play even at 70%, that'll be a big lift. And not just because he can catch balls, but because of the adrenaline rush it'll give the team.

Well the Eagles signed Jeff Thomason today to take his roster spot, bumping up LJ to the starting TE position. Thomason is adequate as another body.

Good call, I think LJ is the better athlete of the two...

Chad had a good game vs. the Falcons, but LJ can fill the vacancy...

LJ could be a star. He drops way too many, and seems to be lacking some toughness.

He has all the tools to be a stud TE in this league, no question.

Thomason is a good band-aid though, familiar with the offense and QB. Adds a little extra pressure to the WRs, but they had that already.

Just read where his doctor is strongly advising him against it.

Tough call, it is the Super Bowl.
