Dave's Current Band vs The EEAS Band. Who's Better?
The EEAS lineup was back when Dave had the fire and something to prove. He wanted to destroy VH with the major gunslingers. Now and unfortunately, it's nostalgia. There's no question that Sheehan absolutely kills ANY competition as a bass player. Vai was an innovator but his futuristic vision and style of playing didn't mesh with Dave's style too well. IMO. It's like when Dave stated that Vai never played any clubs and that is where Dave learned his stuff. Still, they had their moments when they combined their collective styles. I think "Damn Good" was a friggin' home run mixing Vai's style with Dave's storied lyrics. I dunno? Luzier completely buries Bissonette with Dave's style of music. IMO. I've liked the chemistry that Dave has had writing songs with Terry Kilgore. Unfortunately, they don't get along that well either. I've rapped with Kilgore a bit online as has Zahzoo.
I'd love to see Dave put out some rockin, yet blues rock based stuff with the likes of Sheehan, Luzier and I cannot quite figure out what guitar player.
Still, I'd like to hear the "rawer" version of what eventually became "Skyscraper" that Sheehan described. Who knows what would have happened if the record weren't so polished and more rocking? Maybe Billy would have stayed, yada, yada.....Then again, Sheehan bitches about "Skyscraper" and forms Mr. Big? LOL!!!

Originally posted by dave_is_vh Who the fuck cares? As long as Dave is front and center, I could care less who is in the background. It could be EVH, Vai, or a decent player from a local garage band - it doesn't matter.
I agree, as long Dave is the head singer of the band it doesn't matter. Van Halen was the best band DLR was with, then I would have to go with EEAS, then the list goes on. Dave's band today is pretty cool, I got to meet them when Dave played the MN show last November.
I saw Van Halen in 1984 and Dave was a happy goofball frontman and I saw the Eat Em Smile tour and Dave was out to kicks some ass. The goofyness was gone and Dave looked like he was going to fuck several peoples girlfriends at once and then kill their boyfriends with Brazilian jujitzu.
I loved the Eat Em and Smile stage and lighting rig better than anything VH ever had. Dave was all attitude and it was the best show Dave ever did that I saw in person. Vai and Sheehan kinda looked like poofy posers. Like two guys trying their best to follow Dave's orders but it wasn't them. Still a good rocking time though. I still did Yankee Rose because it's full of attitude and the break where Sheehan is laying it out and Dave's talking over it and Vai comes in is still some cool shit.
