46 years ago today, Fidel Castro became Cuba´s leader.
Since then Cubans have had peace (when not under US attack), seen the end of virtual slavery, illiteracy and enjoy excellent health care.
Way to go, Fidel!

I hope Fidel and Poppy Bush die on exactly the same day and Satan makes them roomates in Hell for all eternity.

we rebuilt our country ourself!
The USA provided the environment for it, but certainly not for altruistic reasons!
Most dictators can make the argument that they "care about their people!" Even Pol Pot and Hitler. He's still a meglamanical cunt that should just die so a truly democratic movement emerges that hopefully won't be hijacked by the rightist, Batista apologist Cuban assholes in Miami.Originally posted by kentuckyklira

If he was, he´d have invaded some place or other. So far people have only tried to invade Cuba.
Well, I'm not up to date on Cambodian history, but at least Adolf came up with the Autobahn and the VW. Doesn't excuse 12 million corpses, but he's already done more FOR his people than Junior has.Originally posted by Nickdfresh

Thanks for the spelling correction, but I meant 'megalomaniacal cunt' actually. And he had significant numbers of troops in Angola, Grenada, much of Central America to export Revolution, and in the case of Angola, they were there to secure future oil rights. You can paint him as a revolutionary radical-chic all you want. But he's no better than many killers, despite his laudable social remaking of Cuba.Originally posted by kentuckyklira

We can always extoll the virtues of the next Robespierre! But they are still tyrants even if they are bettering things in some ways.
Just a little reminder about ol' Fidel though....
He actually knocked on our doors first, begging the Eisenhower administration for help. The BCE-corporatist CIA advised Ike against it, because the corporations were doing well under the right wing repressive Batista regime.
Castro could have been a US ally, but the BCE slammed the door in his face. Kruschev seized the opportunity to get his foot in the door of the Western Hemisphere - which of course boosted the Cold War - and by extention the military industrial complex, so it was a win-win for the corporatists either way.

Be careful though Kentucky, they're very jealous that we can enjoy those fine white beaches, but they can't.

I would imagine that it's for the same reasons that foreign doctors coming to Canada have to do the same, unless they are from the USA, or a nation that is a member of the Commonwealth.
I should have stipulated I'm only talking about primary and secondary education. I don't know enough about their post-secondary system to be able to comment on it.
What exactly do you know about their primary and secondary education systems ??

Cuba ain't so bad....fidel is actually pretty good and guys our government must think so too coz we trading with them.
Do you love me peter? Yes of course my lord. Then feed my sheep.
Any doctor from a foreign country has to do that. My dad's doctor was a practicing MD in China and when he moved to America, he had to go back to school all over again.Originally posted by ELVIS

No, actually we are not trading with them. The anti-Castro Cuban lobby prevents us from selling our goods to Cuba as part of a stupid embargo.Originally posted by Little_Skittles

The irony here is that if we actually did send our goods to the 'Socialist Paradise,' Castro's regime would collapse like East Germany's did the minute it was not propped up by the Russians.
They don't know how much fun capitalism really is. But then again, it seems like we NEED Castro as a bogeyman, and to cause a destabilization by dying so we can sweep in and dominate the country when it is in turmoil as opposed to a Cuba that maintains independence by a gradual transitioning to democracy.
WHAT? We aren't trading with them? excuse me my local paper just ran an ad that said kansas wheat going to cuba don't even say we trading with them. I want some cuban cigars for my wheat.
Cuban cigars are highly illegal (and much coveted). The wheat you are talking about being traded, and you are right, was a highly controversial deal I believe (if past events are indicative). But it was politically justified as food probably, but we do not send Cuba any consumer goods. Have you seen the cars they drive? It's like a scene from GREASE or HAPPY DAYS for Christ's sakes!Originally posted by Little_Skittles

Cuban cigars aren't that great. I don't see what the big fuss is about them. And I really don't understand how anyone could call Cuba a fine country without admitting they are an admirer of Communism.

But if you do so in the name of a US funded organisation then you go to jail and that´s OK with me. I mean US administrations have supported torrorist actions against Cuban civilians in the past, as well as attempts to assassinate Cuba´s leaders.
I doubt American´s "Freedom of Speech" is so free that they could accept funding by Al Qaeda unpunished!

Right before Cuban intelligence (the DGI?) knocks on your door. There's an informer on every block. You suffer some form of retaliation for speaking out against "Napoleon's" regime (Check my sig!)
It is true the CIA and mafia have tried to "off" Castro and even tried to make his hair/beard fall out with a "special cigar." But I can tell you that Cuban Intelligence is one of the world's most ruthless (and in many ways effective) organizations. Does that justify clamps on freedom of speech? I hardly think so.But if you do so in the name of a US funded organisation then you go to jail and that´s OK with me. And most Cuban's get money from relatives in America. Should they be jailed also?
Actually many believe Islamic "Charities" with ties to al-Qaida still operate in the US and W. Europe. One was even involved in a political correctness issue involving the show "24" in which Kieffer Sutherland had to make a disclaimer that "American Muslims are not terrorists and stand..."I doubt American´s "Freedom of Speech" is so free that they could accept funding by Al Qaeda unpunished!
Then why do they oppose Castro once they are here and the Mexicans don't oppose their government at all? Mexicans come here to make money and send home. Cubans come here and would love to return back home, but not until Castro is gone.
Because if a Cuban comes to the USA and says, "hi, I´m here to earn some money and then go back home" he´ll be treated like any other illegal immigrant, but if he says, "hooray, freedom at last, I hope Fidel rots in hell" he´ll be greeted with open arms!Originally posted by diamondD

Mexicans and others don´t have those options, if they did what do you think they´d be saying once they make it across the border!!
I said they send their money back home. From the exploding populations I am seeing starting to settle in this far north of the border, they aren't planning on returning anytime soon. Most Cubans want to see their government overthrown. Why is that?
I see some Germans still like the idea of ruthless totalitarianism.
