If it's obvious that a guy can't cut it, send him home. As for violating regulations by laying into the guy, it's a known fact that those regulations are violated quite a bit. Anybody who goes into the Marines should know that.
If it weren't for the shit that was captured on tape, I'd be willing to bet there wouldn't be a whole lot of punishment for the five men mentioned in the article. Sad but true.

Stuff happens like this in basic training, MCT & SOI. During MCT we had to end live fire training because a Marine from a different platoon wound up shot.

I remember when I went through Basic Combat Training. The Drill Sergeants were extra paranoid because in the previous cycle, or group to train, one guy shot himself on the firing range and another guy accidently set off his grenade, decapitating him and killing his trainer.
