Sooner or later the Van Halen boys will have to reunite with Diamond Dave. We know that Mikey and Sammy have a close relationship and that makes me wonder about a reunion of the original line-up. Will Mikey sit it out in protest in collaborating with DLR? And if so, what kind of effect will it have on the band and the fans? Will it still be a big-time reunion if Mikey is not included?

Mike has managed to hold his place in Van Halen... He wouldn't quit now! No matter how much he loves Spammy, money is his first love. Even at the expense of having NO personality whatsoever. Am I making any sense?

Personally, if someone is not to be there, let it be Alicia. Maybe then we can get a couple more albums - hoping too much - and the DVDs with the classic concerts and videos, not to mention the new gig - reasonable hopes here, at least with any other band...

DAVE nixed the idea due to "legacy-detrimental" concerns.

I remember prior to the Sam & Dave show, Dave was on Howard Stern, with Sammy on the phones, and Dave asked about Mikey joining on stage....? Then it came down to it, Dave said he didn't want just Mike anymore...it was either a Van Halen reunion, with all 4 members or nothing ya know?

If they do reform, agreed Mike's bass solo and Al's drum solo can take a hike. Shit, can pretty much do without a quarter-hour EVH guitar solo as well. Even Dave has abbreviated his in-between song raps solo live these days, and the show is a little better for it. Would rather see Ed do Spanish Fly then segue into DOA, Cathedral into Secrets, Eruption into You Really Got Me, Little Guitars Intro into Little Guitars and Meanstreet Intro into Meanstreet than have one long guitar solo wank. Would keep Ed concise and focused and enable the band to play more songs. Eliminating the bass solo, drum solo and paring down the guitar solo and Roth raps would trim about half an hour that could allow for 5 or 6 more SONGS to be played.

Mike's background vocals on the 6 pack stuff were essential to the sound, but live that guy was too loud in the mix; his singing live bugged me. Listen to Montreal 1984. Something like On Fire would have been better off with just Dave screaming the chorus. Same with Jamie's Crying. Mike sounds like half a fag.

MA won't sit out a reunion willingly. He'll be there with his tinkerbells on. Not a reunion unless all four are there.

Would rather see Dave and Ed do something together without the other two, in all honesty. Get a drummer in there who'll give Ed a good kick up the ass. Wouldn't discourage me from giving it a listen at all if MA and AVH didn't participate.

Shit, Ed can take a gulp inbetween each song and keep his buzz going.

Suppose it's useful for the performers to have these bass/drum/guitar/frontman solos/raps to allow everyone else to rest, but for what they'd charge for ticket prices, 2 to 2 1/2 hours of work isn't that much to ask for.

I dunno if VH was hittin' their peak in '96. Me Wise and CGTSNM were largely ignored by the general public, outside of folks like us. They were coming off yet another split with the second singer, and sure, people were excited about the Roth possibility, but I wouldn't define a 'peak' as a 'maybe.'

And Led Zep is in an entirely different category than everybody else. If any one hard rock band is The Standard, the true epitomy of the number one legend of hard rock and roll, it's Zep. I doubt that title will ever be taken from them. Halen's my favorite group of all time, but I'd be fooling myself if I truly thought they were in the same class as Zep. Nobody is. And I mean nobody. Not the Stones, not the Who...Zep are princes among men. They supercede generational bias (so far...dunno about fifty years from now) because they are literally the very top of the heap. Listening to Led Zeppelin isn't just a teenage right of passage anymore...it's a mandate.
