Smile The one good thing I will say about "Dreams"

and because it is synthesized is that it actually sounds good back-to-back with "jump".
Though the keyboard arrangements aren't exactly the same, I must say I can handle (the tail end of) "dreams" if followed by the powered up "jump".

    Dreams:

    Pop-fluff synth arrangement.

    Lyrics by Hallmark.

Guitar solo sounds like an EVH rip-off, rather than something Mr. Fingers did himself.

Enitre song sung in the one shreiking, grating annoying key Hagar is comfortable with.

Not a big fan of Jump, either, but at least that tune had Roth's lyrics and delivery; Dave wasn't afraid to sing counter to the melody, Hagar was all to content to follow along with what Ed was playing in Dreams.

Dunno, Steve. When I hear Van Hagar played alongside Van Halen, only makes me realize what was lost when they split in 1985.

I agree. I had to say at least 1 positive thing about a Van Hagar tune considering I'm not a "jump" fan either.
1984 was the worst Van Roth album ever. I think it even showed it was time for Dave to leave in a sense. Too much synth on "I'll wait".
Oh, I'll still prefer "jump" over "dreams" anyday. It just depresses me because the mid 80's, '85-'86, were my favorite decade of music overall.
Why couldn't classic stick it out for just one more album?
If the original 4 ever get back together, I'd love to hear an album where they left off... what would've been Roth Halen '85-'86... kind of combining 5150 with "Eat 'em & Smile"... if that's even possible.

If dave sang over the 5150 songs they would not have only been better, but some of them would be classics!

Which songs would be 5150 classics for Dave? Personally, all the up-tempo ones would do it for me:

    Good Enough

    Get Up

    Summer Nights

    5150

The 5150 album wasn't that bad in all reality. it still had a Rothness to it that was not followed up by V.Hagar after the fact.
Remember that it was only one year and some change after Dave left, Ed was still trying to find himself without his better half.

I'll give that record some credit on those merits.

Between Love Walking In, Dreamy fluff and shrieking, and why can't this be rock,
5150 delivers many half baked Journey tunes............For Me to Poop On.
