    Yo La Tengo

Thoughts on this band? Anyone else familiar with them?

They've got a three-disc retrospective coming out on the 22nd. Anyone else looking forward to it?

Sort of like when you try to do a Sunday New York Times crossword, and can't even get three clues together.

Then you run off to find a crossword from People magazine, just so you can feel smart again.

(The equivalent here is for me to now start a "Sammy is a FAG!!" or "Katydid shoul be banned" thread. hunderds of responses within seconds there)

Yeah, that would do the trick. I thought about that myself, but I don't do it because I consider my threads art. Even the ones with porn in it. ESPECIALLY the ones with porn with it. I'd never sell out just to have more hits.

Why do I feel pathetic all of a sudden?

            Cheers! :bottle:

What kind of musical style do these guys play, anyway?

              Cheers! :bottle:

Varies album to album. They used to be a very noisy art-punk band, and then moved more and more towards traditional song structures and melodies. They're based in Hoboken, New Jersey and their leader, Ira Kaplan, is a former music journalist and is married to the drummer.

Which is to say that they are "critics darlings".

Oh, and despite the band's name, they're not spanish or mexican.

Ira Kaplan is a huge Mets fan, and their former outfielder whose name I forget (but is of Spanish descent) used to call out "Yo la tengo!" ("I have it") when there was a pop-up that he was going after.

Maybe worth checking out. What's the name of that retrospective? Or are the albums in itself a better introduction to the band? 'Cause there are some bands whose sound changes so much from album to album that buying a best of just can't begin to show the greatness of the band... Iron Maiden with 'Best of the Beast' come to mind. And from what you say, this seems to be one of those bands.

Look, the above is very confuse... don't read it. Any links?

                      Cheers! :bottle:

From the best music site on the web:

AllMusic provides comprehensive music info including reviews and biographies. Get recommendations for new music to listen to, stream or own.

They recommend I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One. And I agree, in that it showcases more of the band's styles than any other album, but the one that drew me in the most is And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out. It's a very atmospheric album, so if your taste leans more towards Maiden and you have no interest in, say...Massive Attack (bad example in a way), this might not be for you.

There are some good rocking tunes on Heart...

Yo La Tengo sucks. They suck my suckin suck. They suck big floppy donkey dicks. Most BORING band ever.
The name Sammy Hagar conjures up a variety of emotions from music fans--from hate to contempt, from disgust to revulsion.

Naw, but I find their CDs useful for fanning my balls.

After I get jock itch from all the mold coming out of my speakers after popping in their CD
