    Desert Island Discs

You know the drill...pick your 10 all-time favorite albums. (THE ALBUMS AS IS!!! NO SNEAKING AN EXTRA DISC OR AN EXTRA SONG ONTO A DISC!!! NO THE SIX-PACK IS NOT ONE ALBUM!!! IT'S SIX!!!!)

The albums that you'd want to live with if you could never have another piece of music ever again...the stuff you'd recommend to your best friend, avowing that their life is just not complete without 'em.

I've never understood the appeal of Pet Sounds. I've bought it three times now, only to return it each time after it a listen.

Doesn't feel like a "grower", either. The lyrics just don't come across for me.

Damn, that's REALLY hard... ok, off the top of my head. <--- What does that mean, by the way?

    1. Manowar - Kings of Metal. Ok, this is DEFINITELY number 1... I think. Manowar is first, but I'm not sure about the album. Hell, I'll take this one. Now, in no particular order:

    2. John Lee Hooker - Boom Boom. Great tracks in this one. I actually skip the title track most of the times, I'm pretty sick of it by now. Still a classic, though.

    3. Antonin Dvórak's Symphony no. 9 in E minor, "From the New World". I couldn't skip classical, and it came down between this and Beethoven's ninth. Dvórak it is, then.

    4. Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark. I still prefer this one over 'Number of the Beast'. Maybe because it was the first real Metal I've listened to? I stopped listening to Guns n' Roses after this.

    5. Van Halen I - After careful consideration, I decided I couldn't live without Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love. Ice Cream Man and You Really Got Me would help, too.

    6. David Lee Roth - Eat 'Em And Smile. Yankee Rose... 'nuff said.

    7. Rhapsody - Power of the Dragonflame. This may just be the best Rhapsody album to date. Near perfect balance between aggressive heavy riffs and symphonic melodies. However, they tend to get better with each album, and they are about to release a new one, that one may be it...

    8. Absu - The Sun of Tiphareth - I REALLY wouldn't be caught in a deserted island without a true Black Metal album... and Absu are the best and purest I've listened to so far.

    9. Bruce Springsteen - The Ghost of Tom Joad. It seems noone can make an 'intimate' album like the Boss. I truly enjoy this one and Nebraska. However, this one was professionally produced, so it has an obviously better sound. It also has Youngstown.

    10. I'm gonna cheat a bit on this one. Bob Seger - Nine Tonight. It's the best live album I've ever listened to. I think I've listened to this album more times than any other in my entire music collection - and that may very well be over 300, ladies and gentlemen.

It's still a very lacking list, however... I couldn't even squeeze AC/DC in there. Nor Black Sabbath or Deep Purple. Damn!

    Cheers! :bottle:

    1. Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys: My favorite album of all-time and probably the one that I would choose if I had to pick just one.

    2. Revolver - The Beatles: The 2nd best album of 1966.

    3. Today! - The Beach Boys: How can you go wrong with an album that has a 2nd side like this one?

    4. Beatles - Rubber Soul: Beep, beep, beep, beep, yeah!

    5. Van Halen - 1984: Hot For Teacher makes this my pick of Van Halen over Fair Warning, although Fair Warning is a better album.

    6. Lennon Legend - John Lennon: The only greatest hits album I would take. I wanted his 1980's hits too.

    7. The Joshua Tree - U2: Just for cut #1. My favorite U2 song of all-time.

    8. Live At Leeds - The Who: Greatest live album ever. Greatest live band ever.

    9. Stone Temple Pilots - Purple: One of the great unsung bands of the 90's.

    10. DLR Band: Not necessarily Dave at his best, but Dave at his most raw. Love it.

Have you ever seen 'For Those About To Rock', a free show in Moscow.

The youngsters in Moscow blocked KGB army guys, fought for freedom. Many people died in the process. So, AC/DC did a free show, took along Metallica, Black Crowes and Pantera for support, and played in front of 500,000 people. I downloaded it somehow (can't remember where from). It brings a tear to the eye. Sometimes, I could feel the excitement through my PC.

You have to bear in mind that Russia had never seen anything like that before. Cannons, inflateable Rosie/Angus etc.

    Great Show!

It's been a while since I saw it but it was AWESOME!

Just search for "ACDC Live" or something like that on LimeWire and you'll propably find it.
    720MB DVD Rip.

Have you seen the Glasgow 1978?

No, I've not seen that one. I just downloaded a gig from 1977, though. I think it was a TV special from Germany or something like that.

Have you got Family Jewels yet?

It rocks more than any other DVD in the world ever. In fact, I'm going to drop Donnington and add Family Jewels to my 10 DVDs list.

Yes, but Family Jewels is better.

    1-Bon is on it
2-Every era of the band is covered from 1975-1990
3-Angus looks unusaully ugly on 'Dirty Deeds'
    4-It's longer/got more songs
5-LOADS of rare shit and unseen stuff

DONNINGTON is a great gig, but FAMILY JEWELS just rocks like a hurricane!!!!

Badguy said that, and I anylised it for ages. All I saw was Angus 'licking' the strings on Malcom's guitar. But the thing about 'Show Business' is that what you are seeing isn't always what you are hearing.

For example, sometimes, Bon is singing without opening his mouth. Either he was a great ventriliquist OR it's just edited and paced together from the rest of the show it was taken from.

Ooooooooooh, another desert islands thread? I haven't done one of these in years.

    Let's see.......................

    No particular order.

    Van Halen - Fair Warning

The Who - Live at Leeds

    KI$$ - Alive!

    Saturday Night Fever - Soundtrack

    Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffitti

Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street

Eric Clapton - Just One Night

    Blondie - Parallel Lines

Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik

Damn, that's fucking tough. Heck, some of them aren't even my favorites by the artists, just the longest. lol.
