Go out and get Billy Idol's new album

It isn't a secret that I am a huge 80s music fan. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here. That said, I am sure you guys are hungry for some great hooks and awesome R&R music. Look no further than Billy Idol's latest "Devil's Playground." He is back with Steve Steven (for years) and the album kicks ass from beginning to end. Check out these links for a sample of the tunes. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Trust me, I am a huge fan the VH/DLR sound. I've always thought that, in another life, EDVH would hook up with Idol. But hey, the great Steve Stevens is no slouch. BTW, if you heard the single scream, that tune is only a sample of the great tunes on the CD. Also, he is on tour to support the album. Do yourselves a favor and go watch the guy. Talk about great frontmen. Dave will always be tops, but this guy is amazing at 49!!! Anyhow, if you decide to buy it, get it at Target for $9.98. You'll get two great bonus tracks online.

Link 3: Check out this awesome fan site. Especially, the AOL sessions. It contains kick ass live performances by Billy and his band!

I'm glad Billy's back. He's been gone far too long. I was lucky enough to catch him live in Phoenix New Years Eve 1999 with Steve Stevens. Fucking rocked the house! Thanks for the post ed, I was wondering if it was worth buying. 5 stars!

If you don't mind, I am going to cross post this over in Bootleg Corner, so these vids don't get buried on down the road. Also going to add more, high quality classic Billy Idol videos to the collection.

People would not ignore Billy and Steve if they saw them live!

Here's a bunch of Idol Videos I posted in BootLeg Corner, including all the ones you found.
    http://www.rotharmy.com/forums/showt...threadid=19075

I've got more cool vids, I will post later.

I've have seen Billy and Steve 3 times, including two weeks ago, since he and Stevens got back together in 2001, after 13 years apart.

NEVER been disappointed! Steve Stevens isn't the guitarist he use to be, but he is still good, and is still one of the baddest mofo's to ever take a stage.

Didn't think the show two weeks ago, was as good as in the past, but it was still kick ass, and everyone in my crew had a great time.

When I saw Billy and Steve in 2001, they just burnt that stage down! Damn that was a smoking gig, they sounded great, and they played all their classics.

Saw them again in 2003, and again it was a great show. I have a full digital soundboard two set CD of that show. Will have to flip those into a download when I get a little more time.

I saw Billy in October of 2003 at Hampton Beach.

The guy rocked. Opened with Cradle of Love and finished with Mony, Mony.

Steve Stevens was fantastic as well.

    I can't recommend it enough.

War, I would have liked to see that gig also. The only problem I had with Idol's past Tours was he was playing in some real dumps-fire traps. I got lucky and saw him in decent venues however.

Thanks for letting us know its worth checking out

Love Billy Idol, even though I got tossed from one of his shows once.

(They only made me stand out side for a few minutes and then let me back in. It was a "time out", I guess. LMAO. Memories...)

Must be a story here RG, AND Billy didn't know about it, for sure. No babe EVER gets tossed from a Billy Idol concert!

The second time I saw Billy and Steve, this babe standing in front of the stage tit flashed Idol and he bent down and shoved his face in her
cleavage. Crowd went bonkers, it was great, pure Idol, baawaa.

As far as the best kick ass concerts I have seen the last year, DLR, Velvet Revolver, and Billy Idol are on the top of the list. Have not seen Motley Crue yet, but saw Vince Neil solo last year, and he also kicked serious ass. I was actually surprised how good he and his band was.

hell...the guard had one of those "I'm in control here" attitudes. He told me "3 strikes your out" and picked me up over his shoulder and placed me outside and shut the door.. LOL. I didn't think my offenses were that bad. He was just real cocky. When he let me back in he said "Are you going to behave?" I think he was trying to kill my buzz off a little bit.

Billy nodded and winked at me when I came back.

He'd been egging me on all night. It was all his fault.

    Baawaa,

I guess the guard thought he was at a Barry Manalo concert, or something.

It's not a Billy Idol concert if it's not out of control, lol.

In 2001, he and Steve played at Mandalay Bay, on a stage out by that monster pool area. Hotter than hell that day, the pool was packed with people standing in it, and everyone got just totally blow away, and trashed the place. Idol loved it!

I was pretty lit, but I remember standing outside looking at the closed door thinking "WTF am I doing out here?"

Everyone was nuts that night too. But apparantly some more than others.

"Pretty lit" and a Billy Idol fan, my kinda of women RG!

You must be talking a 2003 Tour date. The gig I hit in 03 was not as out of control and had more security.

Idol had 2 or 3 gigs in 2001, where people got hurt, mostly from getting smashed up against the stage, in small venues. People forget he’s still a punker.

I’m sure his promoter and Tour bonding company really put their foot down on that 03 Tour.

Billy gets around pretty well on stage. He must have fully recovered from that motorcycle accident he had in '90. I thought he used a cane, and had a limp for years.

Cradle of Love is one of the greatest vids ever. It was filmed just after his accident, and he basically sat down to shoot his scenes, and was only seen from the waist up in the video. Classic. Oh yeah, the girl was hot. ::tongue wagging::

Billy is the only other singer around who even comes close to having a stage presence like David Lee Roth. His new cd is killer. I've seen him twice in concert and he never disapoints.

he did use a cane onstage during the Charmed Life tour. still tore ass up there, though. Stevens wasn't in the band then, it was Mark Younger Smith on guitar.

i have the full video of Idol on MTV's New Year's party from 1984. sound needs a little tweaking...

Like Idol's ticket prices for the 05 Tour, $35-$36, just like 03, and 01 when I saw him. Not the money grab deal like the Van SpamBoys did 04 at $100 a pop.

Surely, there will be a second Western U.S. leg. The promoters are such dicks to deal with this year, they are probably waiting to see how everything goes on the first 15 dates, and get the cash flow off these dates to tie down venues for the 2nd leg.

Idol always finishes his Tours in hometown L.A. and always hits Vegas. I will definitely do Vegas, if he plays there, 2001 was so much fun.

I have 5th row at the April 17th Norva show in Norfolk, V.A. My personal birthday present to me. And May 17th Velvet Revolver at the VA Beach ampitheater section 101 baby.

I wish I would have recorded the 20th aniversary show he did on MTV a few years ago. Steve Stevens and Billy Idol stole that show and they went on fairly early. He had kids in the audience going nuts and most didn't look old enough to be in college so I'm sure he earned a few new fans.

Great posts, and two great gigs, Idol & VR. Look forward to the reviews.

I have that show on tape. It was just one song, (Rebel Yell) but Idol and Stevens smoked it.

The VH1 documentary on Idol is great also. Guy's funny.

I'll review both. I actually got the Billy Idol tix for a personal B-day present but a friend of mine at work had never been exposed to Billy Idol. He always gets him and Billy Joel confused. I know what you're thinking and I don't know why. He's got good taste in music for only being 22. He's into CVH and alot of great classic rock. He's also a Vai fan. Of course he's heard "White Wedding" and "Rebel Yell" etc but has never known who it was. Growing up, no one around him listened to Billy Idol so he just never got into it. I figured he'll either love it or hate me for bringing him but since he likes the above mentioned music and he's a big fan of guitar players, (he loves Jason Becker too but didn't know he played with Dave until I brought in my ALAE and let him hear it) I told him Steve Stevens is one of the last "true" guitar players and he wanted to go.

I just burned him a compilation of Steve Winwood also. His dad always played the solo 80's stuff like "The Finer Things" and "Valerie". Especially "Roll With It", and I threw some Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, and Traffic stuff on it as well. Until I made that cd for him, he never realized Steve Winwood was in Blind Faith with Clapton or that he was in Traffic, or even he was singing "Give Me Some Lovin". He'd heard the songs before but never realized it. Shortly after I made it for him Steve Winwood's Austin City Limits aired locally and he saw it and loved it. I didn't know this guy could play guitar better than keyboard but he fucking tore it up. I don't remember the song but it was like a 10 min jam at the end where it was all solo and he was playing it. Made me respect him even more. One of the few guys I can listen to regardless of what he's currently doing or style he chooses to do next. IMO its all good. Now, if he was only playing somewhere close on his summer tour I'd definately be there.........

I saw Billy two years in a row at the Chicago House of Blues in 02 and 03. He brought the house down on both occasions! The mother fucker can still rock at 49. He totally dumped some great tunes he had been working on with Steve over the past few years. Some of which should have been included on Devil's. Anyhow, the HOB was an awesome venue to see a concert. I was standing 10 feet away from the stage. Two great nights I'll never forget. He's playing the Congress Theater this time around. The tix are $36 plus this fee and that fee. Still, he and stevens are more than worth the money. I'll be there!!!! BTW, I am fascinated with Plastic Jesus. Anyone else like the track? Better yet, let us know what your favorite track is or give us a song by song review! =) Some have been complaining that the last 6/7 tracks aren't as good as the first 8. I think that it appears that way only because the first 8/9 songs are so awesome that a good second half pales a little. I'm sure Idol wanted to end the experience on a serene note. As I mentioned before, if you buy the cd at target, you'll get two great bonus tracks. Bleeding Me Insane is one of them. It was originally slotted for the album opener. I am confused as to why they didn't just add the two tracks on to the album. I guess I'm not the producer. There are some folks who complain that some albums are too long. I suppose that if you put out an album with 15 tracks, people have more to find fault with. That really sucks! My thought is "fill out the whole fucking thing!" The cd had plenty of room left to put the two great "bonus" tracks an maybe more. Regardless, five stars for the cd and the live shows!!!! *****

Someone needs to beat that boy's ass, lol.

    >>>Steve Winwood

Steve Winwood is a highly respected heavy weight in the biz. Not my kind of music, but still the man is well respected, I guess like Phil Collins is, in that vein.

    does that make sense?
