There is no best but Steve Vai is a great guitar player. I've been reading his collumns in guitar magazines since the mid 80's. I watched him get his big break with David Lee Roth and then I watched him go into his solo career again and do something with it unlike many who just dissapear.

Steve Vai is one of the guitar players who did something with his talent and probably continue on for years to come.

Hendrix was to guitar what DLR is/was to Frontman...
Namely, the guy who redefined the rules when it came to electric guitar...Of course, EVH built off the foundation Jimi put in place just as Dave built off of various performing influences to create his larger-than-life persona...

Steve Vai and a bunch of other guitarists have continued to push the electric guitar to further heights...As things should be...

Vai is the greatest guitarist since EVH, in my opinion. Followed closely by SRV.

I have this friend who does not play guitar, i showed him G3 live in Denver, he hated Satch and Yngwie but loved Vai because of his playing!
