David Gilmour has the Strat that has the 00001 serial number on it, even though it wasn't the first Strat ever made.

Yeah, was pretty astonished at some of those axes and what they were worth when I read that Guitar World Jimmy Page/Physical Graffiti issue, 'specially Hendrix's Woodstock Strat. If I had the wherewithall, I'd buy Hendrix's strat, or Page's Gibson Doubleneck, but not to keep 'em in some air-conditioned glass case. I'd want to PLAY those fuckers!!

Always thought EVH's Frankie was the coolest-looking, anyway. That and Brian May's axe were the most distinctive.

What about Bo Diddley's square thing he made out of a birdhouse?

Who can forget Nielsen's guitar of himself?

Personally, Ed's striped-up deal is the paragon of identifiability.

what about Paul McCartney's violin bass.

"Who can tell what's going to happen in the years to come? We take it day by day, here today, gone later today. You don't stop and worry. You don't stop, look in the rearview mirror and say "Did I do this right?" People who always look in the rearview mirror tend to swerve off the road. I'm sorry but the rearview mirror is like sitting up there for one reason... It's an object so that you can tilt the mirror, look at yourself and see how cool you are when you're getting somewhere.

        That's pure Zen man..." - DLR, 1982

I was not talking about the most expensive guitars either.

Clapton's Blackieis a VERY famous guitar. BUt Hendrix's Woodstock Strat is THE single most famous guitar.

Why do ya think it is worth more than all of the others?

It is not just a guitar, and it is not just a piece of Rock History, it is a piece of HISTORY.

Hendrix playing The Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock is the single defining moment of the 60s and reflected completely the cultural changes going on as well as the attitudes of everyone about the Vietnam Police Action.

That Strat should be enshrined in the Smithsonian Institution.

Only one thing bugs me more than wishing for CVH to do a tour (and survive it), and that is I wish to fuck that Jimi Hendrix had not died.

Sure, there are many others I say that about, but especially Hendrix.

He revolutionized the art of rock guitar playing.

IF he were still alive, he would now only be about 62 or so...goddammit....we got cheated out of 35 fucking years of new Hendrix music and touring....

Thank the Muses for the bootleg community...without which I would never have gotten ANYTHING during the 80s and 90s when new Hendrix stuff was coming out officially at a snails pace...

for me the baddest guitar i've ever seen is jimmy page's double-neck -him ripping out 'stairway' on the 'song remains the same' dvd, man. rock. and. roll. as far as instantly recognisable axes go, zach wylde's les paul with the hypno design surely has to be mentioned. and i was never a big nirvana fan but how about kurt's jag-stang?
