Michael Anthony Says Eddie Needs to Sober Up!

Mike Anthony Says Eddie Needs to Sober Up

Melodic Rock reports that while no new material or live dates are expected from Van Halen this year, there are a couple of band related updates.

Bassist Michael Anthony reportedly appeared recently on a Las Vegas radio station and stated that if Van Halen were to continue, lead guitarist Eddie Van Halen would have to "clean up".

Anthony added that he and vocalist Sammy Hagar were not going to sit on the sidelines and wait, which they are sticking too, as Michael will hit the road with Sammy on select solo dates this year.

Sammy Hagar Sure There's Another Van Halen Tour on the Horizon

In a recent interview with a radio station in Detroit, Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar spoke about the speculation that Van Halen may be finished as a band now that the group have completed their North American tour.

Now that the Van Halen tour is over, Hagar has gotten down to work on solo dates and promo opportunities surrounding his Cabo Wabo resort. Because of that, many have wondered if Van Halen will now call it quits.

Hagar said, "There's really not much to say except, you know, we did it — we did the big tour last year. I don't wanna just do that every year. I mean, I love my band, I love what I do solo, too, and I don't get that in Van Halen.

"Van Halen is one thing, and what I do solo is another, and it's two different things, and I couldn't just say I'm only gonna do one. If there's ever a possibility for another Van Halen tour, I'd be interested down the road or something, but right now, we just did it and rather than do that again, I wanna go out and play 'Mas Tequila' and 'One Way to Rock'.

"It's really funny — as an artist, I've had so many songs that I've written and done, made records... you can't just leave that alone. So last year, the Waboritas, we went down and played Cabo for New Year's Eve, we played three nights, and we had so much fun, we came back and we started rehearsing.

"I said, 'No, let's put together a whole different show [to the one] we did last year,' and I just got... count 'em here, about 300 songs that I've recorded and written solo that I need to... I just need to play 'em. And my band loves to go out and tour. So we're doing the Wabos this year.

"I'm sure we'll do [another Van Halen tour] again sometime. The first 11 years I was in Van Halen, it was like no solo stuff — it was pure Van Halen — but after going out with my band for seven years, I got really used to it and it got good to me, so I couldn't ever do just one or the other type of thing. You know what I mean?

"It would be like... If everybody could stay happy, then we could do it. But I mean, it was great. The Van Halen tour was fantastic."

He loves to mask the truth a bit, doesn't he? I'm not sure what "No solo stuff ... pure Van Halen" means. He did a solo album in 1987 (was it 87? That's a guess) which, I know, was a contractual obligation, but he also did solo stuff during VH shows. He used to do One Way To Rock, I Can't Drive 55, and usually either Give To Live or Eagles Fly. Hmmm.

And, yeah, I'm pretty sure that came out a while ago.

What was your first clue, Mike???

I guess you don't have to work for Goodyear to recognize a flat tire.

I apologize if this has been posted before. I think it may have been after the last tour ending fiasco, in December maybe?

But it seems to have taken on new relevance in light of yesterday's events. In anycase, the article was undated and I pulled it up last night while trying to see if any mainstream media still cared about Van Hagar. I heard much more in regards to Daves EMT gig!

Wow...Mikey showing some balls. Although, they are very politically correct and "polite" balls at that.

Maybe he can stage an "intervention" and purge Eddie's demons with a funnel and a 55 gallon drum of hot sauce.

I think Mike is trying to tell Eddie to start taking up some hot sauce and screw up his stomach.

Dave and his fellow EMT buds can help revive Ed's sorry ass.

These gents had no business going on tour with the condition Ed was in. Judging by luke warm ticket sales and lack of interest, Ed's drinking wasn't the only problem with the Van Hagar tour. VH needed a leader to whip their sorry ass's into shape, not a yes man like Sham. Hagar even admitted their was no leadership on the last tour. There would not have been a leadership problem if DLR had been fronting the band. DLR would not have put up with King Eddie's bullshit. That's why they chose Hagar, because he is a Yes man.
Dave is the only singer for VH. He brings excitement and energy to the band, a consumate frontman. With DLR their would have been a much needed buzz to the tour, similar to the KISS reunion of 96. Instead the fans who were lame enough to pay 100.00 dollars for The Bore Tour were treated to a mediocre frontman and a drunk who forgot how to play UNCHAINED.
Oh and don't forget the lame ass bass solo, drum solo and Hagar's acoustic solo. Enough to induce a coma on any innocent bystander. Without all the ego boosting solo crap, they could have added 10 songs to the set list. Fortunatley, I saw the real deal back in 84 before torturing myself in 86 and 91, leaving both shows early. I learned my lesson and steered clear of THE BORE TOUR.
