You play with matches, you get burned.

It's all brilliant or it sucks..

When I finally got my modem on House Of The Airbrushed Sunset, I crapped my pants!
yes, that video sucked. bad.
it was a huge leap from all the cool videos he had done up to that point. I remember being very disappointed.
I thought it was just tongue in cheek, your typical 'Dave fucking around'--
LOL the vid was bad, Vai dressed as a woman (I think that's what it was supposed to be) and Dave's very bad hair and dance moves, to one of my least fav. Dave songs- mix that with card board skyscrapers and whores... Yup...Dave, in the mass media's eyes was nearing the end. But hey, it's still Dave. That's why he has such a strong following. He's human and it's nice to see a fuck up here and there.Originally posted by rustoffa

Uh hello..ya!!! What a lame ass friggin video,...And people have the balls to slam Sam..what is up with that...DLR sucks as a solo artist and that is all he has been since 1978...a solo artist...so, he has sucked since 1978 then.....Originally posted by The Godfather

Hey retard, as a Roth fan, many of us can say that a Roth song/video was not good, admittingly. Sammy thinks he's great from head to Red fag. That's just pure bullshit. That guy couldn't fit into Roth's jock.( Im sure he's tried-while Dave was wearing it) Im not sure why you spend your time here, at a Roth site slamming him- when you could be using your time wisely to pick up boys in your suped up Tonka truck getting them hooked on that homo-erotic Van Hagar?
Go "Bam" somewhere else "Thorman".
I knew Dave's career was in trouble when MTV jumped on the Nirvanna Band Wagon.
Not that I'm a huge Cobain fan, but it seems to me that everything shifted in 1991.

Vanzilla's New "Can't Get This Stuff No More" Video Coming Soon!
In 1988 it wasn't that big of a deal. Looking back it looks gay...but back then it probably didn't seem as bad. I remember liking the song at the time, now it sounds cheesy.
"To keep up with me, you must be fast. To sing like me, you must be great. To beat me? You must be kidding!"

wait, there was a video for "Stand Up"? When where?
it couldn't have been on MTV, because those pieces of shit haven't shown a video since 85 or so!
Launch.com and mtv.com has the videos.
in 1988 you knew dave was in trouble because of the headband around his forehead......we all know what he was hiding underneath it
Got beef with my comments? Blow me!
I actually like the video and the tune.
When the shit hits the fan, close your mouth and duck.
This is where Dave went from being cool to being a fool.
Mezro...at least the ALAE video was a return to form...

Life in Syracuse has been compared to your sex life, so yes it's lifeless and boring.
Liberace move over, there’s a new Queen in town!
The key to why this video - as well as the first single from Skyscraper, "Just Like paradise" - were a radical shift in tone and approach is b/c Pete Angelus (aka Pete Picasso) was no longer dave's collaborator. (Pete co-concpeted, created and directed with Dave Cali Girls, Gigolo, Yankee Rose, Goin' Crazy).
With him gone, it was the equivalent of losign ted templeman on the disc itself.
A HUGE loss. Like Ed VH and Templeman, Angelus was an integral element in inspiring dave to do his best and achieve his artistic visions.
BTW - as afr as I'm concerned, even worse was the ALAE video. Dave strutting in front of a bunch of Marshall amps - how cool is that? or not...
ouch! I actually considered this video to be on par with Yankee Rose and Goin' Crazy! I liked it.Originally posted by academic punk

Served hot, right from the rhythm kitchen.
Lots of good answers.
To answer the question...yes...I saw/thought that this is the begining of the end.
One thing to remember is that back in '88 alot of video's/bands were looking pretty gay.
Definitly a time frame that dates itself.
Just when you think Dave is going to zig...he zags.

Welcome to Massachusetts. Now get the FUCK out of my way!
that's what I always liked about him and I think that's what keeps him entertaining and honest through and through. regardless of what is popular at any given time, Dave still just does what comes natural to him- whatever the fuck he wants. Hard rock to Just a Gigalo to CVH to Damn Good to the cover album to hard rock with the DLR Band again. I love it.
There are going to be some missteps in a nearly 30 year career.

authentic, genuine, real, truthful, honest, entertaining,
mind-blowing, kick-ass artwork!!!!

A Little Ain't Enough was a great video! 'Specially the ending, with a bloated Roth coming off like a spandexed, aging hard rock Elvis. DLR has always had a streak of self-depreciation in his humor.
Stand Up...yeah, well, not really a huge fan of that particular DLR tune. Sheep wander onto this site and say that everything put out by EVH or Hagar was great. Well, I dig Dave but doesn't mean I thought every track of his was awesome. And even the video was a little low-key in comparison to what we had to come to expect from Dave.
Don't ever recall thinking Dave was in trouble, though. Any showbiz career has high points and low points. Depends how you define success, too. Like, the Dead couldn't put out a multi-million selling album to save their lives, but they packed concerts all the way to the end of the line. Same goes for the latter-day Rolling Stones. Think in terms of commercial sales, ALAE is due to be certified platinum, or should have been already, so I can't really say that was the point where I thought Dave's album-selling draw might be waning.
Think it was probably Your Filthy Little Mouth, and hearing that for the first time, that I thought he might start losing sales. Too much of a stylistic shift. Bold move or him to make. Certainly bolder than that of his former bandmates, who were content to follow a formula of top 40 power ballads mixed in with mundane rock tracks on every album. Think Dave saw the onslaught of grunge in the early 90s as an opportunity for him to stretch out and do some stuff he'd always wanted to, 'specially since most of the hard rock bands from the 1980s couldn't get much airplay by that point anyway.
Scramby eggs and bacon.
You know though, that video and album was a signature of the time....
a lot of things in the late 80's seem cheesy now.
Album went platinum, what is there to knock?
I dig it
ALAE is officially out of print along with YFLM. So, it's not on its way to platinum status....
alae went gold. I have been to a lot of record stores and i've never seen a copy of those two albums. i bought mine on e-bay
Couldn't remember the video, so I watched at Launch.com
All I can say is cocaine is one helluva drug!
Seriously, that video is the result of not trying anymore and having the wrong production team.
You can see by watching it....everyone associated with that video had some agenda besides producing a good video, even Dave. The song didn't leave much to work with anyway.
And Dave trying to cover up his hairline with that 'dutch boy meets goldie locks' was a little distracting.
I love Dave, but he needs to go see Alvi Armani (http://www.alvi-armani-hair-transplants.com/). Dave could afford a whole head of hair, and they can transplant it a few hairs at a time, no need to cut a huge strip from the back of the head anymore.
I can point that out because I am follicly challenged also!
