    Realistically........

...........how many copies would a CVH reunion album sell today? We all know a tour would be through the roof, but what are your thoughts on how the album would do with the masses?! Assuming there is no hit single(they were never about that anyway with Dave) of course.........Gold(they would hit that plateau EASILY I'm sure)? Platinum? Yes, I know album sales dont mean a fucking thing as long as we dig it, but whatever.........

Realistically, probably a platinum album, but not much more.

They won't get any kind of push from any of the media establishments, which is required for you to break the 10 million mark anymore. Even aging rockers like the Who, Stones and Zeppelin, if reunited (and all the members were still alive) would sell in excess of about 5 million copies.

I'd say lowball estimates of about 800k-1m range. Highball would be in the 1.8-2m range.

I'd say about 2 million copies. The media and the world still want a Diamond Dave/VH reunion. It would be BIG news.

remember folks the bov1 sold almost 3 million alone with no support! if 2 news songs can generate those kinda sales ,12 new songs and a full tour in support of the record could do 5-7 million in sales!

Could see it moving a million units/going platinum without difficulty. Could even see it doing 2 or 3 million if some of the tracks found some heavy rotation on rock radio.

But I don't see it going Diamond. 10 million CDs is a shitload, and let's not forget it took Van Halen's debut album and 1984 quite a bit of time after the initial release dates to reach that status.

Hate to say it, but am sure there are more than a few who bought CVH records back in the day who don't even listen to that stuff anymore, or have no interest in what CVH would be currently doing.

Plus, all the bullshit put out post-1984 under the name 'Van Halen' helped whittle away some more of the classic fanbase. Would be pretty much a given that I'd get a copy, but I doubt that everyone who was into the band when they were still classic would feel the same way.

I could see It going platnium. Of course would MTV show a video they would release to increase popularity? Probably not unless Dave and Ed rapped a song. LOL

Me wise magic proves that when dave returns to the band that they can still produce some pretty sick shit while different it would still sell big time because their are people who have been waiting for 20 years for that shit to happen.

I'd go with 2 million. Radio wouldn't play the single because VH no longer fits their "hipster" demographic. And because they don't rap, MTV would give it little attention (Although it would be nice if they'd dust off the WELCOME BACK Promo)

The Darkness did pretty well trying to act like a hair band but the guys in van halen have grown up. Look at santana he can still make platinum albums im sure that VH could do that.

They sold 2 million copies in 1996 based on just 2 songs. A whole album of new material should do easily as well. Or even better with the proper promotion.

But then I don't see even corporatized radio turning down a Van HALEN album if it sounded like the real thing.

I believe it would be huge. I can see it being larger than anything we have seen in the last 20 years. Imagine Bon Scott rising from the grave to do an album and tour with AC/DC. I believe it would be larger than that.

Ladies and gents you are all wrong. Trust me there are a tonne of people both young and old who would buy this album. The numbers would grow and eventually go Diamond. The record companies, radio stations, media etc etc would be all over this(unlike the last degredation of a reunion) Dave alone would generate so much media that sales will topple 1 mill in it's first week. If it happens just get ready for one heckava fuckin ride. You think Mount St Helens was big, this reunion would be bigger.

    1 million tops!

The only alums that sold 10 million were 1984 and VH1, which was at the height of their popularity (VH1 even re-entered the charts in '84). There's no way they would equal that 20+ years later.

Radio stations would play it at first, but it's likely to get very little airplay overall.....

File sharing and all that sorta stuff.......

It could suck......you have to realize that possibilty.....there are a lot of old acts that put out shit when they are hovering 50 years old.

Figs we are not talking about a band that keeps saying "last tour etc etc" we are talking about a band that ruled the airwaves and arenas from 78' to 84. We are talking about a leadsinger that owned the stage and airwaves and medias attention. About a guitarist that shook the world from the minute he recorded VH1 right up to until the final chord on 1984. This band has made a massive impact on the music world that has not been forgotten. This reunion, if it were to happen, would be huge, period.
    Cheers

That is why Dave is such a major player in this. Look at all the attention he's been getting lately. Dave is not stupid. This is being done for a reason. Remember that today everywhere you look the media is around. you can't take a fucking shit w/o someone knowing about it 2 sec later. Dave is gonna use this medium to the fullest and rest assured that everyone is gonna know that CVH is back in business, even if it is for one album and tour, the world will know. How do you start to re-build something that was destroyed, from the bottom up. Dave is laying the foundation first...............just wait and see(we all hope)

    BAM

Yeah.......seem to recall last year the Best Of Both Worlds was released, featuring 3 new Van Hagar songs.

Last 'Van Halen' release before that was in 1998. 6 years between releases, 10 years between the last release of Van Hagar material and the 2004 droppings, and the craving for new Sam Halen stuff was so great that none of the tracks got any substantial airplay, with the collection still struggling to go gold (paragon of lameness being that because it was a 2-disc set, Van Hagar fans were claiming that once 250,000 of the BOBW sets were sold it actually sold 500,000 copies).

New CVH record would have a more than reasonable chance to go multi-platinum. With last years litmus test, probable verdict can be concluded on what a new, full-length Van Hagar effort would sell; about the same as Van Halen 3, probably a little less.

but, seriously, (that means Thorman need not post),
The big money gang would want to see contracts written in blood before they backed something from the 'Quake' Bros., even if Dave agreed. They just procrastinated too many times and really shit on too many people.

bang on the nose there american gypsy..... no one either in the INDUSTRY or the fans can take the Van Halen bro's seriously now.... there a musical hot potatoe.... sad but true... some serious contracts would need written....

but lets be honest not a one of us could care about numbers... we would be happy if they toured small clubs and released an album out of the back of there car... actually that may be the wya to go back to the garage route and plaese the fans for once

I think it will be so fucking awesome if they really decide to do this. I really do wonder...

Just imagine the ticket prices, they're so going to be outta this world!

"So there, I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes...Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show..."
