Anyone know why Dave, Van Hagar, AC/DC, Talking Heads, or any other hard rock bands didn't play Live Aid?

Well Sammy wasnt named the official true singer of VH yet as Live Aid was either late '84 or early 85......I think they needed some singers so thats why they didnt ask dave

I just bought it on DVD. It was released in Feb or March. I've watched it start to finish. Can't explain why no one you mentioned didn't play but I can tell you when Clapton went on I was getting pissed cause he played "White Room" (which is my favorite use of a wah peddle ever) and his guitar player was playing most of the lead until the solo. If he hadn't played it I would have thrown the damn thing away. Course after his performance at Live Aid he had three of the top five albums on Billboard. Renewed interest and reminded everybody he can still throw down when he wants to.

Shit, what other time in history could you turn on your TV at 7:00 in the morning and see the reunited Black Sabbath playing live?

Judas Priest was there. So was Queen.

Led Zeppelin attempted their first reunion there, though Page was fucked up on heroin, and asking Phil Collins to fill in for Bonzo was a huge mistake.

Not a bad day for hard rock at all.

Remember that Peter, Paul & Mary played the song in the sixties and made it a success. A few days before the show, Dylan tell the organizers that would be Wood & Richards his companions on stage. Mary dragged down. But Peter, Paul & Mary appeared in the US Finale, singing "We are the world". They are even listed on the US poster.

Still, I think Dave could have played California Girls (perhaps with the Beach Boys, they played). Maybe he could have played with the Hall & Oates orchestra instead of Mick Jagger and Tina Turner. God, that was embarrassing-as is that spelling mistake.

As I remember VV, Sambo got in a bit of trouble at Farm Aid...
